WHY would you move here?!?! lol, I stay because it's where my family is...otherwise I'd be up and outta here in a hurry!!!

Haha, that sure makes me look forward to moving there!

My fiance is from Indiana, and has been living away from his family for the past six years. I'll be finishing a masters degree in May and he's not particularly attached to his job, but I don't really like the northeast (I debated about whether to say I "don't really" like it or I "really don't" like it!). My family is all in southern CA, but CA is really expensive. Indiana is cheap, has family nearby, and it looks like there are some jobs. We would be able to afford a house if we moved there (but not if we moved to CA), and we would have short commutes to work (not like in LA, ugh traffic). The two areas we're looking at are the Indianapolis area (where his family is) and Fort Wayne (where some jobs are), but I'd rather be near a city (having grown up in LA). Anyway, I promised him that I will give it a shot and see if I like it. The things that I really don't like about the northeast are things that are not true of IN, at least from what I can tell from visiting his family. My biggest concerns about IN are the politics and the winter weather!

A friend of mine suggested that we might like Milwaukee better, so we are looking a little at the whole general area of the midwest over there, but it would be nice to be close to family (even if it's my future in-laws).
Anyway, we are planning on finding jobs out there to start next summer, living in an apartment for another year, and then if I make it through the winter and haven't decided I can't stand IN we will start house hunting. I grew up in the suburbs, and the area around Indianapolis we're looking at is pretty suburban and not too different from the area I grew up in (except that there is less ethnic diversity and less crime). It's funny, the first time I went to visit his family was a total culture shock, because they live in a really ritzy suburb (the house I grew up in is like less than half the size of his), I was shocked that people there actually talk to their neighbors, and you could get to a cornfield after driving for five minutes (from my part of LA, you can drive for hours and still be in the city!). And it rained during the summer, that was a shock (though after a year in Providence it's not so shocking anymore). But each time we went to visit it got a little more comfortable, and their area has gotten more developed and less rural (I don't really feel comfortable in a very rural area). Really I think as long as all my favorite stores and restaurants are there, along with a nice jogging path, some sort of river/lake/something, and some sort of culture stuff (museums, symphony, etc), I will probably be fine (if I don't freeze to death).
I think I used enough parentheses to choke a horse. And that was completely and utterly OT, sorry everyone!
