What does our strength training look like? I am considering adding more strength exercises into what I do to get stronger. I am more concerned with getting stronger than getting skinny lol. :)

Whoooops. Fell behind!

Davi:
LOL. Omigod, hilarious. Yes, my entire life occurs in one building. I am magical, I just sit back and everything comes to me.
Actually, I live in a big city and work in the downtown core, so most things are at my fingertips. The spin gym my coworkers and I go to is about a 2 minute walk from my office... it's a small overpriced boutique gym with concrete floors and intense instructors who all look like they've never heard of cupcakes. Possibly they would mistake the icing for face cream, and smear a layer on to try to add to their overall "glow."
I, by contrast, sit in the back row with my mouth hanging open and pant exhaustedly in what I can only assume is a very attractive way.

To give you an AWESOME mental visual (which is clearly very important, as I'm sure this is keeping you up at night), imagine a "T" shaped map. My work is at the bottom of the T, the gym is at the top right, the sandwich place is at the top left. Bah-bam. :D

...my home is a 40 minute walk from work. Which is cool now. But I'm not looking forward to November when it starts to snow....

Also Davi:
Yaaaay! That ballet thing sounds awesome. What's Prevention? Where'd you do that?!

Bleu:
Omigod, also, I've had those tofu noodles before...! I tried some fettucini noodles that were like 25 calories for the whole packet... but they came in their own soupy brine/water stuff, and the noodles were SO rubbery and slimy that I couldn't eat them to save my life. I desperately wished I could have tho! I even tried pan-frying them to take out some of the moisture, and it still just wasn't happening. :/
And... YAAAAAAAY, CONGRATULATIONNSSSS!!!!!!!! :carrot:

Jaimie:
Ehhh, it happens! Cafeteria lunches = hard to keep healthy AND satisfied. Glad you're on your time off, though! Are you back to a more normal schedule now??

Contender:
Woot, west coast! I lived in Galway for a little while, and did some bouncing around County Clare with a girlfriend who lived in a tiny town there.
Super proud of you for busting through the strength training! Working yourself hard can be really mentally difficult, but it feels AMAZING afterwards!!!

As for me:
Oh, ****.

Yesterday started really well. I bribed myself with the purchase of a couple of new books, and walked for several hours into the downtown core to the bookstore. I had a yogurt and coffee along the way and when I got home, I ate lentil soup and a dry whole wheat pita for lunch. My UP wristband says I took about 12,000 steps, 2,000 more than my daily goal. Amazing.

Then, as a treat, I decided to order in food since the manz was heading over to a buddy's for the evening anyhow.

Crap. I brought a binge-trigger food into the house, thinking I'd be able to control my portions. I was soooo wrong.

I binged like nobody's business last night, ate a GIANT container of butter chicken and rice and pounded two and a half cans of diet coke until I felt genuinely sick. This morning, my weight was up to 180.4. (ouch!)

Trying not to beat myself up too badly, just going to try to hop back on the wagon and do well today. :) Wish me luuuck!

Hey ladies!!

Jelbb- Brush it off! You know that is salt/water weight. No way you were up 3 pounds from one meal. You did awesome with your walking and prob burned a ton of cals, and soon you will see a great weigh in when that bloat works it way out of your system!!

Bleu- Congrats on the 170's! Hope to be there soon myself! I can't wait!!

As for me, after a couple busy days of shopping, eating Sonic (eek) and running around at the art fair, I was sure I would be up. However, I am guessing my extra walking helped me out as I hit 188.8 today. Super happy about that, since its also that time. Hopefully I will see another nice drop in a couple days when my body is back to normal. Congrats all on your losses this week!!

Jelbb,
Prevention is a health magazine that has been around in the states for what seems like AGES. My grandmother has a stash of their magazines that are nearly as old as I am. They have been in print since 1944!

I was on pinterest (when am I not on that site? lol) and found a link to one of their work outs. I find myself gravitating towards dance inspired work outs more and more these days and to Tai Chi. I am considering taking Martial Arts lessons as well, but as I am relocating in the next year, I'm not sure if I should look into classes in my current area or wait it out.

Here's the link to the article where the exercises start:
http://www.prevention.com/fitness/st...fitness?page=3

As for me, I've been on break these past two days, substituting lots of walking and other cardio for the boot-camp moves so my body could get a bit of rest. I also stayed overnight with my BF and kept him company as he watched his parents' house and the family cats (who were adorable!) yesterday. That being said, TOM has made his arrival, and the scale is reflecting that today. 193, not too bad, but still I hope to keep a downward trend going if I can.

I'm following the "Chalean Extreme" programme. :) You lift as heavy as you can so that you reach failure on your 10th - 12th rep. I love it!

@Jelbb I'm from Galway!! :) That's awesome you lived here. Were you going to university here?

I had a major "cheat day" today (Sunday). Eek oh well, back on the wagon tomorrow!

contender 08-05-2013 11:35 AM

One week in and 4 pounds down. Yay :)

Davikatl16 08-05-2013 04:39 PM

194, and today was the last work retreat of the summer...so a plate of salad, two LARGE pieces of fried chicken, faaar too many chocolate chip cookies, and everything else bad for you. Essentially we celebrated that my one coworker who was a real witch and vegan had left early, so we could all eat the food we wanted without her making comments. Like whenever we would eat meat or carbs she would glare like we were throwing it in her face.

I am not going to let it faze me though, because I have other things to worry about. Like my papers that are due tomorrow, how I am moving in two days to my new place, and how my room is a complete wreck. I need to make a list and cross things off of it to make myself feel better right now, cause I feel a stress headache coming on, and don't have time to deal with it.

contender 08-05-2013 07:56 PM

You're right not to let it faze you Davika!

Just wondering everyone, where do you notice your weight/inches loss most? And which areas are slower to respond?

I find my stomach region seems to be getting smaller first.
My chest and back region are my problem areas (I'm quite broad).

Davikatl16 08-05-2013 09:37 PM

I find I notice the changes mostly in my thighs and lower belly. The way I carry my weight I notice those places become smaller/more lumpy the closer I become to 175 ish. Unfortunately I usually fluctuate about 20lbs through the year so I don't always see that 175 on the scale, but it has led me to become very comfortable with inspecting my body for changes.

BleuMaus 08-06-2013 09:48 AM
