I'm a teacher and I'm typically on my feet all day for 7 hours straight, except for my 20 minute lunch. Even when we're reading aloud in class or having discussion over the text, I roam around the room or stand behind my podium rather than sit on a stool. There's not any heavy lifting at all, but I definitely walk around a lot. It would be interesting to track my steps/mileage with a pedometer.

I go to the gym on my lunch break, which helps the day go by faster. I walk my dog after work, and I'm thinking of starting to get up earlier and walk him before work as well. I just sit at a desk all day and there's really not much opportunity to move around, and I wear heels to work anyway so I'm not particularly inclined to do much.

I was thinking of bringing some weights to the office and doing a bit of upper-body strength training, just to do SOMETHING. I wish I had a tread-desk, that seems right up my alley, but I work in a government office so I doubt that would go over very well lol.

I'm a consultant working from home right now, so my life is really sedentary! I know how hard it can be to get movement in the day. I exercise (45 minute run, lift, yoga) 4-5 x a week. But that's not enough to offset sitting all day, I know- I was the one who started this thread!: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/weig...g-all-day.html

I'm a big-time multitasker so I try to get in activity (even just standing) while doing other things- picking up groceries, doing housework, etc. I try to walk around our apartment complex in the morning for about 20 minutes while I listen to news podcasts. During the day I make sure to get up out of my chair at least once an hour. I do a little bit of straightening up the house, do laundry standing up while watching the Daily Show (haha), walk 10 minutes to the nearby vegetable market, etc. I also stand for about an hour in the evenings/late afternoons to cook dinner.

I'm pretty convinced that sitting down all day is killing us and that every little bit of standing, walking around the apartment, etc is just as important as structured exercise.
