i read on yahoo yesterday that eating a bowl of hot soup before you have a meal will help you eat less because you can't eat hot things quickly so it will help you eat slower and digest it.

Idk, i've never tried this though.

The only thing I can think of to support this is that drinking hot liquid can get your, um, bowels working. Is that what they mean by "breaking down" foods? The term is so vague, it's hard to tell just what is meant.

I've heard hot coffee recommended for constipation. But hot tea would probably work just as well. Maybe any liquid would work.

Still, I don't see this as a weight loss aid.

LOL. I think I just laughed for a good two minutes. Sounds like something my Chinese grandmother would say.

I would think it's a myth but I don't know, there might be some study out there with info.

Cold coffee works for constipation too - its the coffee, not the temperature.

And yeah, Lindsay, I've read that too - but that's more of the act of eating something slowly before you eat a meal than the actual what you're eating - it would be the same as drinking a full glass of water before eating - you're partially filling yourself up on liquid.

I think if you drink any sort of liquid after a meal (but not during) it will make you feel fuller and maybe make you question whether you want a second helping or not. But it's not any magic property of warm liquid.
