Sam- You are not stuck :) you will get that scale moving...its inevitable

Jess7286 02-21-2010 10:39 PM

Haley - Let's get to Onederland together then! Effin' eh. And I thought I'd be there sooner. Ah well. Better late than never right?

I should be on TOM soon. My cycle always gets weird when I start working out intensely though. Does that ever happen to you guys?

Taylor - I just saw that I didn't answer you. I do own a scale, and it's pretty nifty but I'm trying to stay away from it and not weigh myself every day. I haven't gotten to the point of super sets yet (combos for big / small muscle groups) but I'm pretty good on form. I used to lift a lot back in college and it's good that your trainer works with you on form because it prevents injuries. And ugh, cardio in between lifting is so hard haha. Good job for doing it!

Hi everyone! I'm relatively new to 3FC, so it's nice to meet you all!
I've been dieting/gaining for many years now. I'm 23, a recent college grad, looking into further education. So...my lack of a job/school at the moment means I have NO reason not to work out and watch what I eat!
I've been hovering around 205-215 (207 currently) for a couple of months now, despite the fact that I've been going to the gym 3-4 times/week. I usually do about 1 hr "speed" walking at an incline on the treadmill (well...maybe not super speedy, lol. Around 3-3.5 mph), then 30-45 min of weight machines. I go to an all women gym, which I like sooo much better than working out with men!
I know I haven't been losing weight because I haven't been watching what I eat closely enough. That is going to change! My plan is to start by just writing down everything I eat (which I think by itself will motivate me to eat less), and gradually cut down my calories.
I'm glad to have found this forum. I hope we can help motivate one another together!

Haley - When I get back to the East Coast, come visit me in DC and I can sneak you into my gym.

Tiffany - Hey! Welcome! Your starting weight was close to my starting weight 3 years ago but I have been yoyo-ing back and forth for a long time. Usually I freak out around the 210s and get back to the 170s and then I get off plan. This time, my goal is to keep going to the 160s, 50s, and 40s.

Hey Classicrock! Welcome. It's good that you're doing a walk on an incline, but cardio is semi-pointless if you don't strenuously exert yourself (and even us fatties have extremely adaptable bodies). Bump up the speed and try walking a bit faster. If it's PAINFUL, that's not good. But if you're huffing and puffing, that's good. As for weight lifting, you want to aim for 3 sets of 10s to start with. By 10 reps, I mean you shouldn't be able to lift the last rep. If you CAN, then you're using too light of a weight. A lot of girls are afraid of bulking up. Basically, it's impossible to look like a guy. We don't have the hormones or the muscle mass so don't be afraid of building muscle! Your muscles actually sit there and burn fat, even while you're sleeping! It's extremely useful. I usually lift for about 45 minutes to an hour, but I typically focus on one to two muscle groups.

Start slowly, and if you don't know proper form, ask somebody at your gym or watch youtube videos and imitate (preferably the former so you know you're doing it right). You can do it!

I sound like a personal trainer haha. I did study for the test and I'll probably take it after I get to close to my GW.

Welcome Tiffany and classicrock!

Classicrock - I'm in FL too! Whereabouts are you? I'm over on the east coast, chillin by Melbourne.

Jess, will you be my personal trainer? lol. jk.

Jess7286 02-22-2010 02:05 AM

LOL. If you have questions, you're more than welcomed to ask. My gmail is [email protected] or on here :)

Good morning ladies!!!

So unfortunately I've been sick for days and food hasn't been appealing. Which means I was down 4.5lbs which puts me at 209.5 for my official weigh in! I can't remember the last time I was so close to onederland!!

Jess- I need to pick your brain. ...I've been fortunate that my weight comes off pretty easily even without exercise. But I need to be in better shape for me. I'm currently doing yoga and using my elliptical, but, lifting weights is my downfall. My upper body strength is probably comparable to a 10 year old boy. LOL

And a big welcome to Tiffany & Classicrock!! I agree that 3fc is such a help. Anytime I slip off plan, one of the most important things for me to do, is rededicate myself to this site. I'm very busy so most of the time I'm just a quiet lurker but even that helps soooo much!! I wish you both great success in your weight loss goals, and everyone is here to cheer you on through the finish line!!

HomeHealthRN29 02-22-2010 12:27 PM

Well I hit 200 today. Hopefully I can jump below by March...so close!

My scale told me 229.5 this morning, but I don't believe it.

QTestRDH 02-22-2010 03:04 PM

So I just checked my bmi chart, and not only will 199 be a huge landmark for me, but it also means I will no longer be obese, so its like a double whammy. If thats not motivation to get rid of these last 10lbs I don't know what is!

HaleyisLove 02-22-2010 03:10 PM

Sam- Believe it :)

Jess- I also need to pick your brain about lifting...however I'm lazy and I just dont seem to want to do it... because I feel stupid
