Okay, so I'm probably not going to be much help here, but this is what I'm aware of from my own research (I'm ttc too.)
Look at the directions in your ovulation predictor kit (opk.) What is it measuring? Is it measuring you LH surge? Usually they want you to test later in the day because LH is harder to detect in the mornings, but if the line showed up, then I'd say it's time to grab hubby!
Dh and I just started on this journey so I haven't gotten to the point of using an opk yet. I did get a book at the library called
Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It talks about using a basal thermometer and charting. I'm not sure if I'll do this (I'm not a morning person~You take them temp first thing every day at the same time), but it seems to be the most fool proof method.
The problem I see with some opk's is that once it detects the surge you may have already ovulated and by then it's too late. I don't know if this is the case with yours, but some brands are that way from what I've read.
