Okay....I think that about 95% of my problem is that I don't exercise. It's not that I don't like to exercise, it's just that I can never seem to find the time. Actually, if I looked hard enough, I probably could find the time. I just know that (a) I am not willing to sacrifice sleep for exercise and refuse to get up at some ungodly hour to go to the gym and (b) when I get home, I just want to relax (which I often don't get to do because I often have work that I have to do at home.)
In my heart, I am a basically lazy person. I am okay with my not-so-perfectly kept house, and I totally don't have a problem with the fact that my husband is a better cook than I am. Maybe I'm seeing exercise as more of a chore? I don't know....because I do enjoy it. It's just that sometimes it's easier to come home and take a nap.
My husband has the same problem, although his is compounded by the fact that he doesn't necessarily like to exercise. Also, he's got joint issues....he tore his rotator cuff when he was 13 and it wasn't discovered until he was an adult and it had already healed funny. He also blew out his knee (tore his ACL) about ten years ago playing volleyball and the incompetent Navy doctors didn't diagnose it for a YEAR. They finally did surgery to fix it, but his knee will never be 100% again. (Trust me, if we could have sued, we would have!)
There is a question in here somewhere...if you find it, let me know!
I know what you mean. If I could find the determination and put my mind to it to excercise like some of the people here, the weight would FALL off of me. But, since I started over in September, (let's just delete the two weeks I was sick, ok people? ) I've decided: What's more important:
A) Being comfortable, relaxed, cozy and not sweaty
OR
B) Being fit, healthy, lean, strong, thin and LIVING for a long time
????????????? It's up to all of us to make that choice.
I don't think that's true Apryl. I don't think your going to find a whole lot of people that can keep up with me on the movement front daily. I think its got to be a balance.
I think you know Jennelle that if it was really important to you, you would make the time. Plus you got to find something you enjoy or at least multi-task to. Plus you got to get that high, if you don't get high off the excercise why do it?
You'll figure it put Jennelle, I will figure it out too. Someone want to staple my mouth shut, or how about decide that I can have feelings instead of stuffing them with food? What a concept.
I'm a lazy person too. My laundry gets done when I have nothing left to wear, the kitchen stays messy until I have ants, and I'm lucky if I can remember to pay the bills on time.
The one thing that I am not lazy about is my school work. I didn't get to go to college until late in life (not too late , just 26) but I take it very seriously. I have a 4.0, and I don't see getting to graduate school unless I can do it on scholarship, so I plan to keep it that way. So, I did something terrible.... I took a 7AM Yoga class (for credit), followed by a 8AM Physical Education class (for credit). What the HECK was I thinking???
However, I haven't missed a work-out since. So, next semester, I'll be signing up again for the same insane schedule.
My point is this: I needed motivation. I love love love to workout, but I can find any excuse in the world to miss it. You can find your motivation. Sometimes people need other people to hold them accountable (maybe a workout buddy or a class). Can you combine it with something else you love (walking dogs for the animal shelter)?
I'm incredibly grateful to have found something that works for me.... now if only brownies disappeared off the face of the earth.
i NEVER thought i'd be saying this, but i miss my hikes. i miss the weights. i miss the freedom that exercise gave me!!! it's MY TIME. i was forced into making it a priority, and this da... knee injury has me so sidelined i can't stand it!!!!
so, for me, it's oje of those things on the list of 'what i have to do to take care of myself.' under the heading of PUTTING MYSELF FIRST.
<sigh> it's so easy to say. so hard to do. but like the commercial says: JUST DO IT. little by little.
It sounds simplistic, but you just have to DO IT! If you really want to, you WILL make time. I was the biggest couch potato ever, and now I do four cardio and two weight workouts a week (although some weeks I do five days instead of six). I'm actually enjoying it! I was the person who always hated gym class, stood far out in the outfield so I wouldn't have to run after the ball (the only sport I'm good at is swimming) .
Yup same here. The most exercise I got was walking from the couch to the refrig and that was about it. You just have to make the time and don't let anything interfere with it. Make taking care of yourself a priority like you would anything else that is important to you.
You can do it. It's not easy, but it's so worth it and you'll be so very glad that you did.
oh krista... that;s sooo important!!!! i always carry EVERYTHING with me in the car: water, sweats/shorts, weight lifting gloves, bathing suit, cap, goggles, sneakers, socks, towel. so i can NEVER use the excuse that i have to go home first. going home first is FATAL to this!!!! one look at that comfy chair. that teapot. the cat. and i'm sunk!!!!
I can realte to this all too well. Working full time with a 3 year old at home, I really believed I didn't have th time. Then I found Curves. 30 minutes a day. And it's very enjoyable. Even on my worst day, I can struggle through 30 min at Curves. Maybe start with something like that - just to get you back out there, doing some exercise every day.
I think the movement part of this is so important. It sometimes just makes you feel like doing better on the food part.
I've said this before. If I gave you $50.00 every time you worked out...how many times a week do you think you'd work out? You'd find the time, some how, some way. Aren't you worth it. I think you are.
I agree, Sandi. If you look, it's pretty easy to find things to squeeze in to the few extra minutes a day you have. I squeeze in a couple 10 minute walks here and there. I have a number of 20-30 minute video tapes (even the fifteen-minute 1-mile WATP tape) so I have no excuses. Yeah, I'd rather do a full 45-60 minute tape (and I have some of those, too), but when I'm feeling rushed, the shorter tapes make it so I have NO excuses. /grin
