That's where I am at. I like some things salted, like green beans or popcorn, but it is no tangible amount of sodium compared to what is used in processed foods.

Has anyone noticed that foods they used to eat on a regular basis taste just plain wrong?
Yep. Put me in the "changed tastebuds" camp.

Yes, my palate has been recalibrated by what I've been eating for just over three years now.

My theory is that the fake stuff must really have jaded it. Salty & sweet must have been so common in all the processed & pre-prepared food I ate that I became numbed by it, & stopped reacting, except to things that were ever more extreme. So that the food companies had to keep really jacking it up with salt, sugar & fat to get me to feel any kind of taste sensation at all.

When I stopped eating & my palate stopped "expecting" the artificial extremes of created by fake flavoring, my palate readjusted slowly & regained its natural sensitivity. Tastes didn't have to be heightened any more for me to feel & taste them. If they were, herbs & spices managed it for me just fine.

I have to admit to liking a little sea salt or kosher salt occasionally. But I actually want the sensation of that bit of grit & feeling it melt. And it's just a little surprise in the midst of other flavor. I don't want my food uniformly salty.

Sadly, fast food still tastes good to me; however, it also makes me have a stomach ache when I eat it. Some things though---like white bread--- taste very floury to me now. I have grown to appreciate the flavor of grain breads! And I have noticed that a lot of sweets taste WAY sweet to me now...

I'm with you on that one!! I could still polish off a XL McDonald's Fry in a heart beat. My tastes haven't changed for those, sadly. The salty greasy of those don't bother me a bit. Those are on my off limits totally list because like potato chips "you can't eat just one!".

Yes, one of my biggest issues is "waxy" food. Regular peanut butter, pop tarts, Thin Mint girl scout cookies, they all taste waxy to me.

I bet fast food french fries would still taste pretty good though

Other food tastes so good now. I absolutely love to bake a sweet potato in the oven long enough for the skin to caramelize (1 hour +), it tastes decadently sweet, almost like dessert. I used to put brown sugar and butter on a sweet potato, now I can't fathom it. Same with sugar on berries. Now, I think they are wonderfully sweet as they are (I do very very rarely macerate strawberries with a little sugar for a dessert, but that's mostly for company and to make the juices come out!!)

I have just this week started cooking with salt again to "enhance" flavors. A half tsp of salt across an entire dish that serves 4 or more people is a lot less than sprinkling it on at the table and it really does enhance the dish.

I haven't tried old fast food favorites since embarking on this journey, but I can imagine. I taste salt in other things where I didn't before, like salmon at a restaurant, or my big rant, the broccoli!

The only taste I find changing is my taste in beverage. I don't drink as much soda now because it is WAY too sweet. Mostly I've been drinking just tea and water for the past couple of months, but I want to try some of those health juices I see advertised at my local health food store.

I keep waiting for the sweet tooth to shrink so I don't start drooling every time I walk into the bakery at a grocery store, but that doesn't seem to be happening...... I miss baked goods XD.

My tastes have changed and I am glad for it. I really enjoy my fruit and agree about the sweet potatoes being great roasted.

The last time I ate McD fries was about 1 1/2 years ago. They had a weird chemically aftertaste. I have not eaten there since. DH & DS15 still eat there a couple of times a month. Now chips are another story--kettle chips?
