I agree it was intended as a compliment, even if not the most elegantly phrased.

And you have done great- so keep it up! lol!

I've found that when you're confident in yourself - who you are, what you want, what you're doing.... you tend not to take offense at what other people say, how they say it, or what they meant by it, because it doesn't matter.

I'm confident enough in what I'm doing, that comments from others don't usually make or break my comfort zone.

If someone meant it well, but it didn't come out in the best way possible, I chalk it up to foot-in-mouth disease (I've had my share of it).

If someone meant to be critical, it doesn't bother me much, because I know they don't know what they're talking about.

Oh, it can sting in the moment, but I do quickly recover by reminding myself that person's opinion doesn't matter. What matter's is what I think of myself, and I'm happy with my choices.

Even when I was at my fattest, I was making a lot of terrific choices in my life. I'm not ashamed of those choices, even though many people (in my life and strangers) think I should be. I was working hard at what I valued most at the time (my career, my family and friends, in my volunteer work). My priorities are different now (I'm finally putting me first), but it still boils down to my being responsible for my goals, my choices and what other people have to say about it, is only of minor importance.

I try not to waste time thinking about what people "meant by" comments. I take what helps me and ignore the rest.

Yeah, I am pretty much hard on myself and I tend to believe that others are thinking just as badly of me, something I am working on but definitely not there yet. Thanks everyone.

I think it is also meant as an encouragement to stick to your goals and plan. Not to be an insult. I personally would rather hear that then "Wow, you look so much better!" or the "I hope your not planning to lose more , you'll be skin and bones then!" I will take "keep up the good work" anytime.

I wouldn't take offense HERE, on this forum, because we're all here for the same purpose, we see the tickers, etc. In the real world--yes, I have taken offense when it's said with a certain tone of voice--you know the tone I'm talking about That being said, as the other chicks have commented, you look great!!

I doubt intent was anything other than to cheer you on. You ARE doing an awesome job! Yours was one of the first stories I read here that inspired me to join 3FC and you have been an continuing inspiration to me and I am sure many others, so yeah, keep it up!

Oh gosh I hate that. My parents are the worse. I lost 1.1kg last week which is 2.4 pounds so I'm at 8.7kg, really close to 10 which is quite a milestone and I was soooo happy and all I got from them was "Oh you're so close to 10 now", no you're doing great or anything. I know they dont mean any harm by it but it annoys me!!

I also think most people who say that, say it with the intention of communicating that you should keep up whatever you're doing to look so good. It's not like the comment I hate so much, "You have such a pretty face." In other words, my face is pretty but my body is...what?

Default "unsult"

That kind of bothers me too. All they really should say is, "Wow, you're looking great!" They don't need to allude to the fact there's more weight to be lost.
