I start my morning off with a bowl of oatmeal with an added tablspoon of ground flax or a bowl of high fiber cold cereal - 2 of my favorites are kashi go lean crunch (honey almond flax) and nature's path organic optimum slim. I also drink a cup of green or herbal tea with a tablespoon of fibersure. I always eat high fiber, whole grain bread, whole grain pastas and brown rice to keep up my fiber, because I'm not always so good about eating my fruits and veggies. I'm sure you've heard this already, but increase your fiber a little each day to prevent causing intestinal issues. You also need to drink plenty of water with all that fiber : )
spark said that too much fiber can interfere with nutrient absorption, just a note.
I'm not sure what 'too much' fiber is and I doubt my fiber range is in the too much category. I don't take fiber supplements or eat fiber enriched foods, just eating a plant based diet gives me lots of fiber.
they reccomend 25-35 a day, I always go over and I drink tons of water and STILL get constipated. dunno how you manage! lol
Well that's the thing. I personally don't think 25 - 35 is anywhere near enough. The benefits are just THAT great. This may be TMI, but, I haven't been constipated in years and years and years....
Lots of good ones already posted here, so I'll just add that I also enjoy:
Trader Joe's Apple Cranberry Bran muffins- all healthy, no trans fats, 80 calories, and I think 9 grams of fiber. They are very bran-ny but I like 'em.
25-35 is really the minimum recommendation for people. From what I've read, the colon cancer studies that really started the fiber recommendations were based on people eating a natual whole foods diet and they actually ate way more than 35 grams fiber/day.
Fiber One bars are awesome but they kill my stomach. Kelloggs fiber plus bars have a little less fiber and don't seem so hard to digest. I'm not eating any bars right now - trying to keep the cals all whole foods - but our youngest daughter fights constipation constantly and the bars work for her. At 17 I don't expect her to eat a well balanced diet all the time, so the bars are a great way to compensate.
Kashi Go Lean
Fiber One yogurt
Missions low carb tortillas (21 grams of fiber!)
Kashi granola bars
Natures Own double fiber bread
Tons of different veggies and fruits
Beans,
brown rice
whole wheat pasta that is fortified with extra fiber
I love steel cut oatmeal and beans/peas/legmumes. When I'm on plan, I'm nothing but "regular." This is just one of the major benefits I love from being on plan.
the fiber is inulin, from chicory. i HIGHLY recommend the cheese snacks (and the pasta ain't bad, either!) there's a special going on right now - type in "shesaidyes" when it asks for a discount code and get 15% off everything. apparently the founder got some wonderful news and wants to share the love.
I eat a lot of fiber...fresh fruits and veggies, legumes, Whole Wheat bread, Fiber One bars, Thomas Better Start Multigrain Red Cal/High Fiber english muffins, and YoPlus or FiberOne yogurt. I don't know the exact grams I eat per day, but I would guess between 40 and 50, and have had no problems.
