Well I just stopped in to say Welcome!! Looks like you have already gotten tons of great advice.

Just wanted to welcome you!! I think I may go out and buy a stopwatch myself to get a better idea of how long I am walking as well.

Default Thanks!

Thank all of you for all the great advice! I will use it. I now walk 2 miles instead of trying for 4 or keeping at 3. I forgot how hot June is in Arizona! Anyway I feel rejuvenated after my walks and that is a great feeling! I still have only lost 5 lbs., but I am not upset because I know if I lose it slow and steady, I am losing fat and not muscle. I need to do it the right way. I still have not had a soda! I love you all for all your help. Thank you for the motivation!

Love,

Bonsies :-)

P.S. My name is actually LaVonda. Bonsies is my husband's pet name for me.

bonsies..

5 lb is A M A Z I N G!! don't ever say only - all of your efforts are worth it. Think about what you were doing and how you were feeling just a few short weeks ago (not sure exactly when you started) - Think of all the amazing things you have done for your health.

Bravo to you!

Dana

ps... if you look way down on the thread Sandi (aka jacobsmommy) had a great thread titled "one pound" check it out- it could make a big difference on how you view your weight loss.

Thumbs down welcome!

Just wanted to throw my welcome in as well. I have to agree with trying not think of it as "well I still have XX amount of pounds to go." It can be very discouraging. I try to make small goals like try to lose 10, then 10 more etc... I started having to lose 153 to get to a high goal weight for my height. I am 5'8 and the charts say the most I should weigh to be healthy is 160. I started at 313!! Now I am 263.5 so 1/2 pound and it will be 50 pounds and 1/3 to goal!! Slow and steady wins the race. And heck what if you lose really s-l-o-w and "only" lost 30 pounds this year? It's better than gaining, right? You would be healthier and not starving yourself. It has taken me 18 months of losing, maintaining, then losing some more, but I really feel this way it will stay off longer than if I starved myself like before and lost it all in 5 months and then start pigging out again!!
I hope this made sense, I tend to ramble!!
good luck!

Default Good morning

Well, I haven't written in awhile due to a new wrinkle in my life. I had to take my husband to the hospital 2 days ago because his heart was racing and he felt bad so to be safe, (he has had an arterial occlusion about 7 years ago), we took him in. We were there 7 hours before they admitted him and in that time blood was drawn for testing. The doctors discovered that he had type II diabetes. My husband is also overweight, and this has forced him to finally do something about it. I told him that he will not be alone, and that I will also go on the diet with him. We will be donating much food to the food bank this weekend needless to say! He will also have to walk with me and he is not fighting it this time like he used to. I think he is really scared now. All the men in his family on his mother's side have diabetes. Please pray for him to get well and for me that I have the strength for him! Thank you all.

Default Hello again!

Well, since I last posted, my husband had developed type II diabetes and all was not well. Since then so many wonderful things have happened.

My husband has lost 12 lbs. since he got out of the hospital. He was there for 3 days. He is determined to lose weight and bring his blood glucose level down. He went in the hospital with 500 glucose level and brought it down to 115 this week so he is doing fabulous!

I decided to go on his same diet and I have lost...get this...15 lbs. total. I have never felt so good. I am not even hungry nor do I get cravings. This is the best diet I have ever been on! I wish I had known about it sooner!

Thanks to all of you for all your prayers and thoughts!

Love,

Bonsies

What wonderful news about your husband! And the news about you is tremendous too. 15 pounds is incredible. Is this the diabetic exchange diet?

Default Diet

Yes, I believe it is. Jim's doctor told us that the lady who created weight watcher's took the diabetic diet Jim is on, and modified it a bit. I don't feel deprived at all!

Hi..I am so sorry I didn't see this earlier. I have no idea why I didn't. I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your husband. Thank goodness he will be okay.

BUT I am SO SO SO happy to hear that not only is your husband controlling this and losing weight and SO ARE YOU! That really is fabulous.

I too was very frightened a bit ago. I was diagnosed with Type 2, but then was rediagnosed being borderline. very borderline with insulin resistance. So, no more messing around. I want to be healthy, I deserve to be. Since then I have lost 9 lbs, taking my meds, avoiding the beer on the weekends and the food fests. They didn't send me to a nutritionist though. I am curious as to what your diet is.

Best of everything to you and your hubby. Sounds like this is going to be a "good" thing for the both of you.

I too am sorry that i had not seen this before either. I am sorry that you both have gone through this to get things on the right mode. I feel that for many it takes a huge shock, or dramatic event to make them do the right changes . I am so glad that the both of you have made the leap to better health!!!

Default Good morning everyone

Thank you for all your thoughts. How are all of you doing? I hope you all are well and I want you to know that I am thankful for a great support group like you! You are all special to my husband and me.

I will be out looking for a good stationary bike today. Jim has a tough time walking every night because his feet hurt so bad. He is on his feet all day long so maybe this will help. I am so proud of him. The "old" Jim would have given up on the exercise altogether but not the "new" Jim. He is determined! We had our official weigh-ins this weekend. He has lost a total of 13 lbs. and I have lost a total of 16 lbs. (He is catching up to me!) I tried Egg Beaters for the first time this morning. They are not too bad! Well, if any of you have any low fat, low salt, low sugar recipes, I would be eternally grateful!

Love,

Bonsies

Default Hi Irishwings!

Thanks for your support and motivation. Actually, I have lost 16 lbs. as of Saturday...but who's counting? ME! That's who! Anyway, Jim is a little depressed because he gained a pound. I told him to relax.. it will come off plus some. That always happens when you are losing weight. I should know, I am a pro at it by now. Well, love to you all.
