Yeah, daw123, I don't agree with that "totals for the day" idea. It may work for some folks, though, so I can't really say.
My understanding is that there is a reason why each Medifast meal contains a certain amount of protein, fats, and carbs. And, eating all carbs for one "meal" and then all protein for another "meal" doesn't do the same thing. So when I read posters saying that a certain kind of junk food puffs, for example, that are nothing but carbs are a "Medifast substitute," it irks me. In my view, that's going off plan and eating junk food.
Jay don't pu down what you don't know. I've lot 6 lbs in 6 days(firt week).
There are a million different ways to lose weight. Everybodies diferent. Let them do what THEY want. Don't be so mean abought THEIR choices, that's no what this board is about. Or shouldn't be, I'm hoping.

Hey, hey... She did say "It may work for some folks, though, so I can't really say" and "My understanding" and "in my view". I would not classify that as "so mean". JayEll has been successful with Medifast and a very helpful poster about it.
It's cool that you lost 6 in your first week, congratulations! But while there are a million different ways to lose weight, there are also a million different ways to fail (trust me, I know, ha!) I think a heads-up that eating nutritionally devoid cheese puffs isn't part of the carefully calibrated Medifast plan is simple fact. Can you lose weight eating them? Absolutely! Is it an acceptable substitution for Medifast though? No.
That said, if people want to cobble together a collection of standard grocery foods that are low-fat, moderate protein and low-carb, then have at it! I'd recommend a multi-vitamin too though if you're going to go that route
Youve taken it out of context by quoting one or two words. He's saying what others choose is wrong. That'd mean.
Apparently you're saying the same thing. Not nice.
Whatever someone wants to use as THEIR substitution is up to THEM. let them choose. .
No, you're putting words in her mouth, and mine. I never said it was "wrong", just not equal to Medifast. If your plan works for you, awesome! As I said above, congratulations on your loss.
Of course, it's up to an individual to choose how they will eat. I'm not going to stand over people with a wooden spoon and smack them when they stick a Fiber One brownie in their mouth I hope it continues to work for you.
I don't think Jayell or Berkshiregal are trying to tell you that you are wrong.
There is a difference between "Medifast Substitute" and a caloric substitute. If your subbing something for the calorie value thats fine but to sub somthing and say it is a "Medifast Subsititute" then the assumption is that the values are going to be close.
To exaggerate the point, but same concept, saying I didn't want the shake for breakfast because I wasn't in the mood for it. Instead I had 6 teaspoons of sugar. That is a calorie subsititue because its the same calorie value but cannot possible be considered a "Medifast Substitute".
Either way, if you come here looking for support, I know you will find it. Good luck on the loss and remember we are all in this together.
If people want to use substitutions, that's a different plan, not Medifast. Nothing wrong with doing something else besides Medifast for your weight loss, as long as people realize that they are then NOT on Medifast, but a plan they compiled themselves.
