Hello my name is Rafy and this is my story...
Early age...
I grew up on a farm eating pastured homegrown animals, veggies and fruits. Needless to say I was an extremely healthy kid other than the usual ear infection and sore throat but never overweight.
Adulthood...
At the age of 19 I joined the US Navy... I did struggle with boot camp because I was having a hard time running, at this point in my life I still do. The thing I remember the most after boot camp was having six pack abs... haven't seen those in a long time. I joined the fleet and that is when I started slowly but surely gaining weight. Lots of work, stress and absolutely no desire to exercise and sure enough I packed a few Lbs.
Life after the military...
I went to school and became a auto technician. A very active job but at the same time I was eating ridiculous amounts of junk and fast food. Fast forward ahead 15 years or so... I suffer from severe seasonal allergies and every spring is pretty much **** to me. I decided to visit an allergy specialist and after my 3rd visit they informed me that my blood pressure was 140/100... the first health scare of my life... not fun. I reduced my salt intake and the last time I went to the doctor my blood pressure was 120/80.
Present time...
At the end of May this year I had a conversation with a really good friend of mine... she recently started eating whole foods and she pointed me in the right direction. Around July 1st of this year I decided to do something about my health. I threw out all of my junk food, went to the market and started buying whole, local and organic foods. At the time my weight was 256 pounds, I'm 6'1" by the way. July 14th I bought a new bike, going on that first ride after I got it was pretty rough and that was only 1 mile. Those first weeks of exercise were **** not physically but mentally, my mind was pretty much stucked on couch potato mode but never the less I forced myself to go out day after day even after hard days at work.
Today...
I currently weight 230 Lbs. and average 10-12 miles a day on the bike on top of all the heavy lifting and crazy amounts of walking I do at work. I haven't felt this good physically and mentally in well... a long long time. I never ever get tired and sleep like a baby oh and those abs are starting to slowly but surely come back.
Anyways I still have about 30 Lbs to lose... my goal weight is 200 Lbs. and next spring I will buy my first road bike, really looking forward to that!
I want to thank the 3FC community... all of you have been a tremendous inspiration to me in my little journey. Looking forward to being part of this place.
