Dee -- I'm laughing at "snowmobiling" since I just went and lowered the air conditioner because I was sweating in the house, lol.
I have a mountain bike and a hybrid bike, and I generally bike solo or with my husband on the road shoulder. We live on a barrier island so often we are either biking along the beach or biking along the river, which is nice for visual stimulation, plus we ride the bridge causeways for elevation (otherwise it is flat, flat, flat here).
I've used both my bikes in triathlons, I'm too cheap (and not serious enough about racing) to get a lighter road or tri bike.
That's probably more than you ever wanted to know, lol, are you interested in cycling?

Hey Ian, thanks for the advice. Adding distance is tricky as I balance my love of running with chronic back/hip issues -- my doctors advised I not do any running at all, but over the last 8-ish months I've managed to go from zero miles running to a very frequent 5k, so I'm pretty darn happy to be running at all.
But I get what you're saying . For the winter I'm going to try alternating the 5k with a biking since it is low impact and easier on my back, and then maybe I can start adding distance slowly.
But I have to go realllllly slooooowly adding distance. I used to be a bit more of a mileage freak with a daily 6 miler and 10 - 13 milers on weekend days. I don't think I can make it back to that, so I've got to learn how to be satisfied within my physical limitations!

Yesterday the retail store where I work, needed bags of ice brought in. I went out to the ice machine with the boss...he made me carry the ice in (a bale of 6 bags, 30 lbs) because he couldn't, haha. (but pathetic) Then my co-worker started calling me Mighty Mouse because of my strength
Got a bit off track both with my diet and my exercise due to the holidays but I will be back on track today! I definitely consumed too many calories yesterday, but I've been pretty good all month so hopefully that will offset it some.

Hey, I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas! Happy New Year too!
I was doing a lot of walking when I was away for Christmas and my ankle got really swollen My surgeon said that I have to rest it more, I go back to physical therapy this week. It will be the three month mark from my ankle surgery next week! YAY!
WELCOME Worththeeffort2 (way to go on doing 30 minutes on the Elliptical!) and Kate M!
Seabiscuit- sorry to hear about your ankle swelling up, but yay that you're almost at the 3 month recovery mark!
I wanted to post up that this month of exercise really helped me. I didn't lose weight, but I didn't gain any either. More importantly, the original point of doing this to help depression worked for me. I often get blue this time of year both from lack of daylight and from the pressure of the holidays. Last year was particularly bad. This year, I didn't even notice it!
I hope we do this again in January!
