Anita - yep, I'm real familiar with Diet and Exercise, lol. Especially Diet. Stay around here and we'll help you get through it, ok?

Cristi - wish I could do something to help you out of the slump! I know how you're feeling because I've been there many, many times. Vacation will be a challenge for both of us!

Marti - YAY for the loss! Plus, you've GOT to be going down in inches, with all the Gazelling you do!

Katy - glad you're feeling better w/o the sugar. I find that saving a couple of points for a bedtime snack helps me sleep better. We're all different, though.

Just a quick one here. I've been walking outside since the weather is better. Still not warm out, but not so cold. I do love walking outdoors where the air is clean and fresh, and I always take my cell phone, just in case. Might close up the Gazelle until we hit rainy weather. I've been trying to cut back a little more since I'm going on vacation soon. So far, so good!

Hi ladies,

Just popping in to say hi. I have been trying each and every day to work out but honestly the last couple of days have really been a chore. I did walk about 3 kilometres last night with the dog, but so far today I've done zip. and to make things worse The OC is on tonight so I know my butt will be planted on the couch.

Jane--How long did it take you to lose your weight? I am shooting for a weight loss goal of 1 year. I am hoping by Next March to be down aound 145. Is that too much to expect? I want to do it right this time.
I love walking outside. I just hate walking in the winter, and it seems as if winter is never going to end. Last night was nice.

My biggest challenge to overcome is my impulse eating. I know what foods are good for me but I have poor control over my impulses. I never used to eat chocolate but since I had Joycelyn there are days when it is all I ever think of.

Anywhoo, I should break this connection and go an get some house work done. At least I'll burn some calories today,, At least until Joycelyn wakes up and we have to go out.

Hi Anita,

Ten of the pounds were from some weight I'd lost in the Fall of '03. The other 75 of the 85 pounds I lost from 1/24/04 (NOT a Monday!) to 12/11/04. That was with no down time. None. Not even on my birthday, or when we vacationed. There was only one week where I showed a gain, and that was unjustified. There were 3 or 4 weeks that I stayed the same in all that time. The week that I gained, I lost it and more the next week. Weight Watchers was just what I needed. I didn't waver at all from the program.

Although I did occasionally have foods a person may not consider healthy, most of time my diet was made up of lean meats, dairy, grains, healthy fats, fruits, and lots and lots of veggies. And when I did eat the other foods, portion control was what got me through. After all, I like the casseroles and dishes my family enjoys. I didn't consider any food "off limits" and think that was one of the most important things I did this time. I just had to be careful of the portions.

Another thing is to PLAN AHEAD. I wrote down everything I was going to eat, on the night before I ate it. "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail".

But to answer you honestly, I have been struggling with my weight all of my life, with my 20's being my most slender years. I became obese in my early 40's and tried over and over to lose for almost a decade before I "got" it. You should know that I am still not at my ideal weight. I truly should lose about 30 more pounds, but am trying to avoid more wrinkles in my face.

As far as impulses go, if it isn't in the house, you can't eat it. If chocolate is a trigger food, you could do as I do and buy 1 candy bar once in awhile, and share it with someone if you can. Or have a lite version more often. Chips were/are my downfall, so I buy the little bitty 25 bags, one about every 5 or 6 weeks. (portion control again!)

Have you read Dr. Phil's book? If not, I highly recommend it. Btw, I think at your age, you could lose, healthily, 80 pounds in 1 year. Six pounds a month was my average. Some months were more, some less. Just don't try to lose too fast. I don't think I've ever known of anyone who lost fast and KEPT it off.

I'd say good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it! (((HUGS)))

03-24-2005, 02:50 PM
Thank you Jane!

I wish I knew what to do. :dunno: Well, I know what to do it's just a matter of doing it and sticking with it. I don't know why I can't stick with anything for long. I figure eventually I will get it right and quite farting around. Right now I haven't gained or lost so I guess that is good. Of course it doesn't help that it is TOM. Jeez, I wish that would stop completely instead of teasing me. One month nothing, and then BAM! or two months nothing and then BAM!

How is everyone else doing?

03-27-2005, 07:39 PM
Cristi - staying the same is better than gaining, at least!

The Chicago trip and today (Easter Sunday) were challenging for me! This week I will get back to eating healthier and less processed foods. No restaurants, lol.

Also, I didn't get nearly enough water while I was gone, and I can sure tell the difference!

How's it going for the rest of you ladies?

03-27-2005, 08:38 PM
My trip to SF made me realize how much MORE exercising I should be doing also the kinds of foods I SHOULD be eating!

Going to figure out a plan this week and see what I can do. I want to be in BETTER shape by next years vacation!

03-27-2005, 11:59 PM
Welcome back Jane. Good to have you back.

I know how you feel Marti and Cristi. I keep wondering why I can't stick with a plan...and I know I need to be in better shape. I lose and put it right back on. I HAVE to get a grip and get on track. Started walking again yesterday and then it rained today :?:

03-28-2005, 09:26 AM
Good morning....
I didn't get near enough exercise last week...I was chasing kids around and it has been raining here. This week I hope to get back on a schedule. Got my stepper back out, so the rain is no excuse anymore.

I did ok with Easter, tho' did not stay on my food plan. I did have some candy, but I just had a few pieces then bagged up all the rest for DH to take to work. Drank some wine with dinner as well. Today I am back on my no sugar-no alcohol-no eating after 7 regimen. Also getting in 90 oz of water...I'm sloshing around but not too many trips to the potty as yet.

Have a great day everyone!

03-28-2005, 11:51 AM

A new start for me, yet again! At least I haven't given up, yet, so I guess that is a good thing. I am back on track starting today with this weight loss and am surprisingly happy to say I am down two pounds! Last week was a bad one for me with it being TOM! Every time I think I am through with it BAM! It starts again and messes me up. Anyway, dealing with it. I've had to start over with the water drinking because didn't drink what I should have when I went away. I know I should have stuck with it but I seriously would have been stopping every 20-30 minutes and would have gotten no where! I am going to slowly get into a routine of exercise also. Anyway, that's about all I have.

Have a losing week everyone! :cheer:

03-28-2005, 04:03 PM
WTG Cristi!

2 lbs gone - never to be seen again!

03-28-2005, 04:09 PM
Thank you Katy! :thanks:

Was looking around the site earlier and came upon this site I thought I would share with you ladies. Lots of tips and info-spent a lot of time on the site today and still haven't read everything. But I did sign up for the newsletter. Anyway, take a look if you like... (now let me see if that link works, Had to do a couple of things and then came back to it and was having a problem with it not coming up)

03-28-2005, 08:12 PM
Katy - I was just noticing your ticker - look how far you've come!! That's a lot to be proud of! :high:

03-29-2005, 09:23 AM
Thanks, Jane!

It sure is slow going, but that's better than never losing at all, I guess!

04-01-2005, 08:48 AM
Cristi - I checked out that site and bookmarked it. How cool!!

Well, I am doing great with points and exercise and water. All 3 at the same time, lol. It's usually the exercise part that I lag in, but have been walking or doing outdoor stuff. I folded up the Gazelle until Fall when the weather gets too nasty or it's too dark in the mornings for me to be on the roads out here. The dogs love that I'm walking again - they love to go with me a sniff out the rabbits, lol.

How's it going for you?

04-05-2005, 02:45 PM
Cristi, thanx for the link!!! It is a great site.. afer reading it though, i think i am going to change my ticker into a smaller goal.. you know start small!! last week when DH was off for the week i gained a pound back.. i wasnt eating well or going for my walks!! so this week I am back on track!

04-05-2005, 04:06 PM
Hi Ladies!!

Cristi --Thanks for the link. Good Tips.

Terri- Setting smaller goals is a great idea. I personally set 10 pound goals. Then I reward myself with a non food reward. For example, I have lost 5 pounds so tonight I am going to treat myself to a nice long hot bath.

My 25 pound goal reward is a pedicure.

Well this week has been pretty good so far. Last week, I had spring cleaning fever and donated all my plus sized winter clothes to the Salvation Army because I don't plan on fitting into them next winter. Besides I have storage bins full of size 8-10 that I wore before the baby and I AM determined to fit into them. I OWN them. Or at least I will again.

Still tracking the steps on the pedometer. Today's total so far is 4814. I still have to walk the dog tonight.

I have also been keeping track of the total number of steps I've done since last Thursday. So far the total is 40,306 steps, or a total of approximately 45 miles. But I never wore the pedometer on Saturday and Sunday (Forgot) so the total is definitely higher.

No ski machine today. Too tired to drag my butt out of bed. (This workin for a livin takes a lot out of you!!) I need to make tonight an early night (after my hot bath of course) and get up early tomorrow and hit the slopes. (er.... the basement that is.)

Beautiful day today here in Southern Ontario. Hope everyone else is having nice spring weather too.

04-06-2005, 10:39 PM
Terri & Anita~you are welcome. I saw the link somewhere and thought it was cool. Thought I would share it with everyone. I still haven't read everything there.

Anita~WTG on the miles! I have been meaning to get a pedometer but keep forgetting. Did find the old one we have to see if I can get that working first. I would love to get into a 8-10 but even when I was smaller I wore a 12/14 so would be happy to get in a 14 right now. I know I will never be as small as I was before kids and am comfortable in the 150-160 range so am aiming for that.

Terri~good for you for getting back on track! :cp: I am aiming for smaller goals also and hoping it works. Think I will get rid of the ultimate goal ticker. Every time I see how far I have to go I get discouraged.

WTG everyone else on their progress. :bravo:

I'm doing so so. Haven't weighed but will be doing that Monday for sure. Working on getting more exercise in but as of yet, it ain't happenin'! I hate that I feel so lazy.

Anyway...happy losin' everyone! :)

04-07-2005, 11:52 AM
Ya i think I am going to change my ticker right now to a smaller ultimate goal.. if i get there then i will change it but right now the other one looks unattainable!! (is that a word) Well I went for my walk again yesterday it was a beautiful day.. but today is raining again!! I need a treadmill or something. maybe i will go now and look if i can find any deals on them... If i couyld walk and watch tv at the same time i would go twice as far because i would be so bored staring at the trees!! OK well Cristi good job on the 2 pounds lost!! Neets... I could never get a pedicure lol i freak anytime anyone goes near my feet lol they are so sensitive!! Well i better get ttfn!!

04-15-2005, 08:47 AM
Since I've been back on the Gazelle (and boy do my legs know it!) I thought I would bring up this thread to see how everyone else is doing.

I have decided that I will do no less than 30mins. on the gazelle, unless of coarse something prevents me from doing so (like company)

I have also been drinking a lot more water and green tea.

I want to try and plan my lunches for work rather than eating from the coffee shop. I would save so much money and probably be eating much healthier!!

Anyway....those are my plans and what I'm doing right now. What are all you doing? And feel free to share any idea's or tips to keep ourselves healthy. It's always good to hear how others are making it work.

04-16-2005, 08:27 AM
Hi ladies,

Cristi, Katy & Anita - how's it going for you?

Terri - changing your ticker goal seems like a good idea. More doable, you know?

Marti - yay for the renewed exercise committment!

I'm doing good with the food, still maintaining, but have some special challenges coming up with Katie's graduation, etc. I just naturally drink a lot of water now, everyday, so that's never a problem anymore, unless I eat salty foods. As for the exercise, I've mostly been going for the natural kind. Since I've been spring cleaning, all of my muscles are complaining, so I know they are getting a workout, lol. Plus, I play in the yard with the grandkids, running around and having fun.

Have an OP day!!

04-17-2005, 04:51 AM
This is a saturday and that means it's the I didn't get on the gazelle. I almost (notice the almost) feel guilty about it. But by Monday I will be back on there.

I'm really looking forward to the weather drying up more....I want to start walking. I've been reading Oprah's magazine and she just looks fabulous and I want to start doing more. She's an inspiration!!

I did some shopping for lunches for work. I have decided to make my own burritos....low fat tortilla's, and load them up w/black beans and veggies. May not be the best choice, but considering that I've been eating Chicken Salad sandwhiches at work which are LOADED w/mayo, a soda, and some chips......I think it will make a difference.

Also.....been refilling my 32oz water bottle three to four times a day.....must keep my body hydrated! (I've been slacking on the water the last few or more months so this is refreshing!)

I've been thinking of giving myself a personal challenge....I have no idea what though, but I want to figure something out and log it here...maybe start my own "Personl Challenge" thread....just an idea.

Ok...I'm tired and I think I pretty much babbled on and on.

How is everyone else doing???

04-26-2005, 04:30 PM
Exercise lately has been terrible. No one to blame but myself really. I stopped wearing the pedometer because Joycelyn broke it and it keeps falling off. I have vowed to make more time for exercise but things keeps getting in the way. I know that these are just feeble excuses for not exercising, so I am giving myself a reality check. I have not been exercising because I have been too darn lazy to drag my butt down to the basement to do it. As a result, I am sure that my weight loss has stalled. I am vowing to work harder. Starting today. I do however, try to make sure that I add extra steps to my day everyday.

04-27-2005, 09:30 AM
hello, well i guess for me right now i have good daysand bad days.. this weather isnt helping the walking! I really need a treadmill or something. trying to drink my water.. getting some down anyway. Anita: give yourself a little time to adjust to going back to work! It will come in time!

04-27-2005, 09:38 AM
Hiya ladies,

Marti - did you think of a special challenge for yourself? Your burritos sound healthy and yummy, too!

Anita - you're probably getting more exercise than you think, just taking care of the baby, lol. Just try to keep the food under control, and I think you'll see the numbers on the scale go down.

Ack! The winds blew sticks all over our huge yard, and I spent a good while out there picking them up with the rest of the family. My hamstrings felt it, lol. Plus, I've been walking when weather permits, and am still doing the arm exercises.

Can't wait for some decent cantaloupe around here! Right before our own are ripe, we get some pretty good ones from Florida. Gotta say, though, our own are best, lol.

In the meantime, I've been chowing down on the WW soup still. Thank goodness for that stuff!

How's it going for you?

04-28-2005, 06:34 PM
Jane--No I haven't thought of anything. Just wanting to tone myself up. I'm on the gazelle everyday. Even when I don't want to. And I'm drinking lots of water and eating a lot better. My biggest issue for me isn't necessarily wanting to lose weight, it's to tone what I have so it doesn't look so know what I mean?? So what ever challenge I give mysef, it will be an active one.

Anita--Getting myself to workout seems to be a challenge EVERYDAY! But I start thinking...ok, I can sit and watch tv for half an hour letting the muscles get weaker OR I can set the gazelle up in front of the tv for half an hours and get my workout done. Believe me, I talk to myself every morning! :dizzy: Don't worry, you'll get yourself a routine. And I bet that once summer is here, our moods will brighten along with it and get our motivation going.

Terri--As I mentioned to could be affecting our efforts to get ourselves going. Just know that we are here if you're feeling down. I got your message contact note....and added you to my contacts! So anytime you want to chat while I'm online....I'll be there!

There is this woman at work that works the day shift, and I hadn't seen her in months. Well last friday she was working a little later that day and I had come in earlier so I got to see her and talk with her. OMG!! She's lost so much weight!! And all she did was change her eating to eating more fresh fruits and veggies...and bought herself a----------you guessed it---a GAZELLE!! so that inspired me to keep at it!

Ok ladies...I've turned this into a get going.

05-17-2005, 09:03 AM
Hey ladies,

It's been awhile since anyone posted here!

Marti - I'm glad to hear you say that about the lady with the Gazelle. I think I'm going to get mine back out, because I haven't been getting in the walking that I thought I would. I need an exercise room, lol, so I could get a treadmill again! I seriously thought about joining the Y just for that, but can't see myself driving to town for that 3 or 4 times a week!

I'm doing fine with the food and water. Katie's graduation party is going to be a challenge, but I'll be so busy with the guests, that maybe I won't have time to focus on the food, lol. And I plan to send the high-calorie foods home with others. You know me.... Director of Plans, lol.

So how're you others doing?

05-31-2005, 09:16 AM
Hello? Anybody home?? Sheesh, it's too quiet in here, lol.

I got through the graduation party just fine, and made it through Memorial Day, too. The next challenge I have is my family reunion which is being held this Sunday. Not sure what I'll be taking yet, but it will be healthy foods.

Exercise still remains to be my biggest challenge. Yesterday I cleaned out the shed where I keep my storage stuff, and it took several hours. My body was already sore last night, and feels even worse today but at least I got the muscles in action, lol.

I can hardly wait for more fresh fruits and vegetables! Less than a month for cantaloupe, and about the same for tomatoes. YUM!! Those 2 are my faves, lol.

How're you coping with the challenges of summer?

05-31-2005, 10:36 AM
I'm here!!

I had a great workout this morning. 30 minutes on the ski machine and about 5 minutes on weights. (That's all I had time for because Joycelyn woke up and I still needed to shower for work)

But I feel soooooo much better about things and myself. I must be  to skip exercise. Why do we do these things to ourselves when we know it makes us feel bad, and avoid the things we know make us feel good?

05-31-2005, 04:20 PM
I'm here too....

My arms feel like Jello since I mowed the lawn then went back and used the weed eater to get along the fence. that's got to count as exercise since James was waiting for his call and wasn't out there to help. :D So it was all me.

I'm wanting to get myself in order, and I wanted to start by today. I'll work on what I eat today and then move the exercise in tomorrow. My bike has been calling my name so I may pull that out tomorrow.

I'll be back to keep you updated.

05-31-2005, 07:04 PM
Hello Ladies!!

It's been a week since I checked in...I've been depressed the last few days...the new job is fine, but the diet isn't going so well. Hopefully I'll get it together by tomorrow, that's my goal.

Jane - Good Job!! It's tough to stick to it, but you can do it!! Exercise is my problem too :) I'm cheering for you!!

Neets - Good for you!!! Keep up the good work, I'm glad it makes you feel better & hopefully it will do the same for me :)

Marti - Super!! Biking does sound good....stationary or around town...I may have to pull mine out now that you mention it...

Have a great day ladies and keep smiling!!

Help! I am stuck at 5 pounds lost. I am still doing the same thing I did to lose the 5, but nothing is happening. I am not having snacks unless it is thin pretzels or animal crackers and very few. I am not having cravings or wanting to snack, so something is getting satisfied. lol
Typical day: B:1 cup of special K with skim milk. 1/2 banana
L:veggie soup, 6 saltines, slice of cheese, apple (sometimes raw veg. with no cal dip)
Afternoon snack, if needed: 1/2 banana, apple, peach or strawberries
D:chicken breast, small potato, hot veg., salad with balsamic vinegar
Snack: 6 or 8 animal crackers with cup of tea or 15 thin stick pretzels

For lunch I might have 2 thin slices of wheat bread with turkey or chicken breast and lettuce. I also eat pork one night in place of chicken. I had pasta twice during the week that I lost, but had none this week. I think this works out to anywhere between 1200 calories to 1500. I know by my portions I am closer to 1350-1400. I was told that I could lose well at 1500-1600 calories. True?

I can't think of any big differences in what I am doing. Maybe the first week was water, but shouldn't I get to losing something now? I had one week of losing nothing and started the third week yesterday. Ugh!

I refuse to give up and go back to snacking all the time.

06-07-2005, 02:40 PM
Could it be that your body has adjusted to what you were doing to lose the 5 pounds? I know my body adjusts in time so every 4 weeks or so I switch my exercise routine and find new foods I like so I am not eating the same food and doing the same exercises. Try switching things up. It seems to be working for me :)

06-07-2005, 10:31 PM
Welcome Nikki - great advice! Our bodies do change all the time, it seems.

Sue - I'm thinking you need to eat more, to keep losing. Seriously. Sometimes our bodies go into semi-starvation mode when we've cut down. It's your body's way of preservation. You could try adding about 100-200 calories a day in the form of healthy foods (seems like you could use an extra serving of protein) and see what happens. IMHO, you aren't getting enough fat in your diet. Try adding some healthy fat at one meal. Btw, I snack all the time, lol. They are planned, healthy snacks, but they keep my blood sugar steady and give me something to look forward to. Good luck with the changes!

06-07-2005, 11:46 PM
Thank you Jane. I am excited to be here :)

06-08-2005, 12:07 AM
Thanks Nikki and Jane. I think you are both right. I am too Today I did do some different exercises for 20 minutes then when I walked I walked faster for 10 minutes of the walk. Cooled down longer also. I have read a lot about varying the speed when you walk and about finding hills to walk. Maybe this will help.
I will have to say for my snack tonight I had celery with p-nut butter and that was so good.
I am not going to give up, just find out what works for me.
