I have an official name of Kathryn, but have been Clovey (or Clove or Clover) for as long as I can remember, at least to certain people. And I like it better. In fact I always struggle in offical land when I get called Kathryn or any derivative therof.
I was born and raised in Southern California and genuinely love this place.
I am the bird lady because about three years ago my partner was insistent on bringing home a parrot that had been in the family for 32 years. The parrot's owner was 95 and no longer able to care for the bird.
I *****ed, I moaned, I said repeatedly "I don't want any messy birds in this house!
The bird came home anyway and I will never forget what happened. She put the bird on my shoulder and he decided that I was his new best friend. From that day forward, no one else has been able to handle him without being bitten. I have also learned that birds are G-d's very special creatures; we can't really own them or dominate them. There is much that we can learn from them. Dogs like everybody, cats tolerate most people (meow, what have you done for me lately?) but with birds their trust must be earned and they are very intelligent.
So now we have three: the original Amazon, a Cockatoo and a mini-macaw. And I am, without a doubt, the bird lady.

Unfortunately when I tried to make that my e-mail address there were about a hundred of them already. I am Canadian and speak French so my name - Mauvaisroux- is French for Evil Redhead
Ruth you are so smart! What a great idea. I picked my name because I love Alabama Football. Roll Tide! I have used Bamiegurl as my email for years even before we moved to Alabama. My van state tag is bama f-ball my van color is bama color. I decided to use it here because of that and now I am a Bamiegurl since we live here.
I chose January because Jan was taken (my actual name)...so I figured I was starting SBD in January...and it sounded good!

I chose Ellis because I hate my real name. It sounds sucky to me. Like Betty Lou. Or Annabelle. (okay, who have I offended?) I've always thought the name Ellis sounded cool. My real initials make up the name "Ellis".
