Anyone one interested in a challenge?
I am trying to lose 10 lbs by Easter weekend.
This week I am focusing on getting back on my plan, eating well :burger:, cooking proper meals :chef: and exercising more :strong:
So far today has been okay food wise and I did get a lot of exercise in -walking and swimming.

I am not sure about what I want to lose by Easter, but I am challenging myself to be below 157 by March 1st. It is only 1 pound away, but I have been going up instead of down. When I made the decision, a year ago in the beginning of March, to lose weight, I was at 157.
Maybe by Easter I would like to be below 154, my lowest so far.
It is so frustrating to know that in the last year I have been playing with the same 10-15 lbs. I topped out at 166 over the summer, and was down to 154 by October.

Yeah Mauvais,
I am with you. Ten pounds by Easter does not sound unreasonable at all. At least it gives us something to work towards.

Hi!
I am doing the Valentine's Day challenge at the Buddy Up thread. I had the goal of 160 for Valentine's Day and already I am 159. I am very motivated. I have the Easter Goal of 145 pounds. Easter is 75 days away. If I loose about one pound every 5 days...then it makes sense!!

ps. I have been really bad and have not been posting my meals on this thread area. I was really good for a while. It really helps to reflect on what you eat, especially in terms of nutritian.

I think this is a great idea, too! I would like to lose between 5 and 10 lbs by Easter to get to 135-140. It will be good to have some motivation as we still have Valentine's Day & a family birthday coming up!

Hi Can I join your challenge? I am new to this site and I am really excited to know of it. I want to eventually lose 100#, but I will take 25 by Easter. I see alot of you do the Adkins Diet - I lost 60# and then gained 75 back on that one. I have taken shots, eaten more grapefruit than should ever be allowed, did my first diet at 13, Nutri System at 15- I am 30 now and my next step is to have surgery. I would rather lose the weight without surgery, but will not rule it out. My doctor agrees I should have the surgery- I do not think he thinks I can lose the weight without it. My current weight is 308 and I would like to reach 285 by Easter Sunday. Heck I stopped biting my fingernails a year ago - -so surely I can do this.
Thanks to you all.

Welcome Sarajane!
I'm also fairly new to this site. I want your secret to ending the nail biting! This is, by far, my very worst habit! I hate doing it (most of the time I don't even know my hand is in my mouth) and would love to quit. What's the secret?
I also have done the Adkin's diet...succesful in the beginning but then put it all back on. I also blame losing my gallbladder to this type of diet. I joined Weight Watchers about 9 months ago and really like their plan.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the welcome. I too had to have the gall bladder surgery with this diet. I take Advocare vitamins and they make your nails hard. They give you so much energy that there is no time to bite your nails. I am thinking of weight watchers - I can go during my daughters dance class. It is really hard to make it to meetings, but her class is 2 hours long and there is a meeting at the same time. How do you do a journal?
Thanks again for the welcome.

Sarajane...
Journaling is very easy...just write down what you have consumed (food and drinks) and the point(s) for each item and keep a running total. They will give you journals each week at weigh-in. My problem...I quit journaling months ago and can't seem to start again. I tried purchsaing a journal from WW and then purhased a palm device for work and have installed a journal program on it. Do I use either of these? Of course not! I weigh-in every week but have not been faithfully staying for the meetings, which are very beneficial. I weigh-in today over my lunch hour and I WILL stay for the meeting! Must get back-on-track!
Advocare vitamins? Will I find these at a pharmacy or Wal-Mart? Thanks for the information...I hate the habit!
Good luck with WW...I think you will find it works if you stick with it and do all of the "things" they recommend.

Advocare is not sold in stores, but it is worth searching for. I do not want to advertise for them, but it helps me. I passed by "WW" today and really wanted to go in, but my Chef was waiting for me to get back to the office. I seem to always be running for someone else!I told my husband if I could quit my job, I might have a little time for me while the kids were in school, but he didn't believe me! Had to try! I did find the journal area and started one. I would not be sure how to enter what I ate for lunch today. I have several hispanic ladies in my kitchen, and they cook lunch- so I am a bit unsure what it was. I know it was good, but that's about it.
bye for now!
I have plan to go weigh tomorrow and we will see....:chef:

By Easter I hope to be a heck of a lot closer to 200 than I am now! My scale has been put in storage for this month. Last time I looked I was 211.5 - I want to be sneaking up (down) on 200 by Easter time. I also want my BGL readings in the 4-7 range.

I should be getting 4300 back from the tax man, 1000 of it goes for our trip. I have never had a real vacation that I paid for stuff instead of mouching. We are doing the zoo, lego land and seaworld. I will be stopping in Vegas to say hi to everyone before coming home. No credit cards is nice! I love only having utility bills in my mailbox. now if the scale could move down, we will be set.
My last junk was Mcdonalds last night, today I get serious. I am 196 in my nightgown. It is too freaking cold to get naked for a weighin. I am going to do this. ~flower

Oh Ladies!!!
I did it- went to WW (as I see it here) and BOY was I surprised! The scales at the spa were not like the ones there! I 'bout cried. There I was happy because I lost 2 pounds only to find out that their scales say I weigh 12 pounds more.
I hate to say it, but I plunged into a Spinach Calzone and a frosty- I have read the points book and mapped out the rest of the week, so I say this is my last splurge for a while. Tomorrow I will go to the spa and see what the scales say. I hope there is a difference and heaven forbid I gained weight over the weekend. I did not even have cheesecake!
Truely a perfect end to my Monday! But- tomorrow is another day....
Hope it's a good one for you all.

It is a conspiracy! Our scales inject fat cells into our bodies through our feet.
I put mine away Feb 1 when I weighed 211.5.
Since then I have been slightly low carbing, not having snacks AND this morning I am 206.5! I only got it out because of a challenge from the Journalling group. Back into storage it goes today.
If you stand on foil wrap, I wonder if that would prevent the fat cell migration? Hmmmm!

Sarajane, my doctor's scales weigh me about 7 lbs more than my scale (which was checked against a doctor's scale itself and deemed to be accurate...) - my doctor does not weigh me (any more - I just know about her scale from when I was pregnant & she weighed me a few times, yuck!) cuz she knows I hate it and I am paranoid etc! She is so so nice. Just go by your home scale I say...unless it is really old or temperamental. Also one tends to weigh more later in the day...I have been known to weigh 5 lbs more in the evening than in the morning, on my home scale, and I KNOW I didn't gain 5 real lbs in one day!
Despite the goldfish. Yeah, I hear you, Lunula...I wouldn't buy them either, but youngest DD adores them and is such a frugal, healthy eater overall, and loves them so much. A small handful tides her over till mealtime after school. She loves fruit, veggies, rice and lentils, can make a cookie last for days...and a few goldfish too. I need to emulate her. I guess I just need to be tougher about them! I am (supposedly) the grownup around here! (Though I do feel childish and greedy when it comes to candy, crackers, cookies - etc)
And V. Day is nearly here...I bought some Ovation mint sticks to ration out (about 15 cals per stick and I love them) so that I will not eat any Hershey's kisses or little choccy things that will doubtless be around on Friday. Set those boundaries! (And then Easter is coming too. No more Ovations! These were leftover in a shop from Christmas I think!) Ugh!

Hello All!
I just read through this thread. I joined in 12 days ago and haven't posted since. I finished up the Valentine's Day challenge. Only me and one other woman posted our results. It's pretty dissappointing that everyone else sort of dropped out. I hope we can stick together on this challenge.
Dentrassi: you have a really modest goal of 5 pounds, but you'll be able to make it and maybe go beyond it. :)
What things keep you motivated? Vacations, summer, clothing that used to fit and is still hanging in the closet waiting for you? Those are my motivators. Plus I'm single and want to be sexy, and I'm almost 33 and I want to look young in my 30's not old.
Good Luck!!! Have Fun!!!

I have a tendency to sabotage myself when I set goals, so I am trying to "guarantee a success" to break that pattern. My mind set about weight loss has changed A LOT as I have gotten older (and gone on anti-depressants.)
The main reasons I want to lose weight right now are health related, but it sure would be nice to have more choices when I go clothes shopping!!

HI all- Is it just me or is the left over V-day candy sales too much to bear??? I told my wonderful hubby not to buy any and he did not - but how as a penny pinching mom do you resist 1/2 off boxed truffles??? Instead I opted for Sugar free low fat Healthy Choice Ice Cream. Not the same but better for my hips! When I lose weight I always feel like I look larger by the pound I lose. My husband a says I should not worry about it so much, but he weighs 195 lbs.He went to the seminar about the stomach stapling with me, and was very supportive, but he does not think it should be such a big deal. I still have not been able to stick with the daily food journals. I can make excuses all day but the fact is I just have not written anything. I need a vacation!!! We planned a trip to Disney World for the kids school break in October - so I can do this slowly and right , if I can get motivated.
Any motivation tips?????????
Have a great week!

Sara, the big thing about stomach stapling is that you feel full very quickly! So the physical surgery forces you to eat less. It makes you have good habits.
Have you tried WW? You can go to them and buy a start up kit which is about $20 and has a journal and also a points guide. It seems really good. It may help you think about how you eat. You don't neccessarily have to go to the meetings.
Good luck, please keep posting here. I really enjoy the support and ideas from everyone.

I go to my first WW meeting tomorrow during my daughters dance class. It is the only time of the week that I can fit it in (sad huh!) usually I go with the other mothers and have cheesesticks or potato skins or something. SO this will knock that out.
My brother and his wife both had the stomach stapling done. He has lost 300++ pounds and she gained all of hers back (her first real meal was a pureed hamburger...) I had decided that that was the final choice, but then I realized that I had not done WW. Besides I have wedding cakes scheduled almost every weekend so I would have to wait until I could schedule the surgery in. I told my husband if I could just quit my job, I could have time to go the the gym and aerobics with the dance moms. We have a gym and spa at work, but no time to go.
As for WW- I paid for the first 10 weeks in advance so I would make myself stick to the schedule. I will pick up the starter kit tomorrow.
Thanks guys!

Way to go Sarajane. Start movin that body girl. Take it from someone who knows, once you get yourself into a routine of healthy eating and exercise, you will lose the weight and start to feel so good about yourself. Sure I slide back every now and again, we all do. That is caled living, but always keep in the back of your mind, the goals you have set for yourself. I want to be able to run a 5 k, I want to go rock climbing and be able to hug the rocks, I want to chase my kids around, ride my bike, dance like nobody's watching and live life to the fullest.
Way to go! You can do it girl!

I think WW is a great program Sarajane - I get lots of inspiration from WW postings and sometimes use the points system to track my eating. I haven't joined formally as it is too expensive (I would do it online at home if I did do it).
For me the motivation is summer clothing and feeling - comfortable in my own skin, as it were - less self-conscious and able to be more outgoing. I am a sort of shy person and being heavier tends to make me feel even more shy and quiet. When I feel good about how I look I am more sociable, which is a good thing.
Also (and this is aside from the doing-it-for-me thing, which is the most important) I like not having my dad make awful comments, and being a good example to my 2 girls (who are 9 and 6 and thank goodness do not have the weight issues I had
at their ages, I was always about 10 lbs overweight as a kid). And even though DH never said anything when I was heavier, the few times he HAS noticed there is less of me, have been really really great.

Hi Ladies!
Well I did it! I went to WW. I will say- I expected a bit more energy. I am told that the other speakers are a bit more lively. I did buy the startup pack with the restaurant guides. That will be a great help. I ate Chinese food today and had no clue how many points that was. Now I know! Tomorrow I cut back on the Diet Coke. (Boy that will make my mom happy!) My Chef will probably throw some at me by the end of the week. He generally does not like me decaffinated. The last time I went cold turkey he left some on my desk... I will not give it up completely because I will rebound and rebound hard. I do not think it is necessry to give it up all together. Just calm down and drink more water than diet coke. If I did give it up totally - Coca Cola Stock would drop!!!
I will keep you posted!
How is everyone else doing??
Have a great day tomorrow.

Ok, I'm with you on the Easter challenge... now that I have somewhat merged back into my life here after my Thailand experience. So lets see, April 20th is Easter? That seems a long time from now... spring! OH man, I can't wait for warm weather. After going from 85F plus weather to friggin -30F when I returned, my body is in shock. :o Plus, when the weather warms up... it is time to start walking and gardening!!
So today is Feb 18 and Easter is April 20... that gives me roughly eight weeks. As of today I am at 181.5 :cp:... I am so close to being down twenty pounds!! I am going to shoot for a goal that is within a range so I don't set myself up for failure. How about I will go for a weight loss somewhere between 6 to 10 pounds by April 20th. I definitely want to see that 175 mark by then! Hopefully more. Weight loss takes so long, but boy it feels good to know that this isn't a quick fix scheme and that I'm not going to put the weight back on. I've really made some major changes in my eating habits and at this point it seems a natural way of life. I actually don't have to think about it anymore and I have been consistenly losing around three pounds a month. :D Onwards to Easter and a thinner, brave new me!

HI Chickies!
If it were not Friday I would scream! I have not weighed since WW, but I have pee'd more this week than I have in years! Still drinking 8-12 glasses of a water substance a day - Crystal Light helps! And since I am now actually eating veggies- that makes you potty too! I feel 20 lbs lighter! Realisticly I KNOW I am not, but it feels good all the same. My fingers have baggy skin because all the fluid is gone. They look like my mothers! I had to go the the farmers market in Atlanta this morning for the chef (in the rain no less) and then when I made it back to work, my day went from hectic to spastic, so I actually forgot to eat - I can tell you that is a FIRST for this southern belle!!!!
My kids talked me into ordering pizza tonight so I have to figure out the points!
It was really hard last night. I had 5 birthday cakes to make, and one of them was a 6-type chocolate cake with Bailey's Irish Cream and it was covered in Bailey's flavored Chocolate Ganache and I admit I did lick my fingers a bit. I dropped one of the cakes when it came out of the oven and I had to scoop it up off the floor and it was all I could do not to sit there and eat it with a fork- YES OFF THE FLOOR!!!! I made myself put it ALL in the trash, but I did smell the **** out of it!
Have a great weekend! I do not have any wedding cakes this weekend so I hope to shampoo the carpets! - maybe- maybe not-

Here I go! :D

I drank TOO many diet cokes this weekend so I am downing the 64 ounces of water for today before I go to bed. It seems to be a lot easier when I am not at home. In my office I have a small refrigerator full of bottled water, but at home it is all I can do to drink Crystal Light. Right now I am eating some sugar free pudding made with skim milk, so you know how good that sounds!
I am gonna try to walk around work tomorrow in stead of driving, but that depends on the weather. I have meetings most of the afternoon, but maybe I can get in a couple of trips across property on foot....
WW is tomorrow evening- my 9 year old son is going to go with me. He is really getting out of control- the football coaches love him big during football season, but when it comes to baseball season, they want him thin! I am seeing what a bad thing these coaches are! Do they expect him to begin his life on the flip-flop train??? Now that is another soapbox to jump on....Anyway- there is a 12 year old boy from our same school system, so his mom dealt with the same coaches.
I dread going to work tomorrow. There always seems to be something on Mondays that ends up with me getting reamed in the a##. I wake up knowing it will be a day from ****!
I keep threatening to my husband that I will quit and substitute teach on days I do not have to make cakes.
Have a great week!! Good luck to all!!

...to burn off the calories from 3 Girl Scout cookies!!!!:o
Can you imagine. They are evil little things!!!!!! I am a teacher so thankfully I was able to feed the cookies to my students. Good ridance!
Sarajane its good to know you are still here with me and doing well. Don't count a 1/4 # that could be because you need to go to the bathroom or something and it's silly to worry. Just know you did well. How is the WW did you get more out of the second meeting? I hope you like it.
Mauvais, are you on Atkins or just watching carbs? How many carbs a day do you allow? I am really trying to watch mine.
Hi Sojourner and Ellis!!!!!:spin:
Let's keep going!!!!!!

Oh my Gosh!!!
I will have to run for days to work off the thin mints!! I am a GS mom so I had to buy a bunch. I put them on top of the frige and out of the way. I will sell them when I go back to work. (vacation is the life)
Ilovemylukycat- WW has grown on me. The leader has a sense of humor that takes getting used to but the group is nice. It is small so you can speak to everyone. As for the 1/4# I was experiencing the monthly creature so I imagine that had something to do with it. I intend to have lost weight by Monday so I am trying fiercely to stick to the plan.
Thanks all!
Have a great night.

Ellis- Lurking around I guess!
I'm back to stay. I am waiting for TOM (god I love that internetism) and YET I was lighter today. I am 152.5 pounds! I'm just so exstatic.
Work and waiting for spring to arrive has become tedious at best. I really look forward to my little online time with you all.

How are we doing ladies???
Looking at the reservation sheet for Easter Brunch I realized that it is not that far away!!!
I am going to kick myself in HIGH gear! The weather here is WONDERFUL! (we hit 70 yesterday!!!) so it is outside for the entire family this afternoon! I may even grill out. Food is MUCH better when it is cooked outside.
Have a wonderful day!

Girls I need a kick in the butt! I have been so far off plan. Not going to the gym for three weeks alomst, eating anything in site. Not good. But have not given up and will get my @ss in gear and get movin. There is still five weeks till Easter, so technically I could lose ten pounds, but the downside is I think I have gained a few back since I made my pledge of ten pounds. Oh well, at this point any lose is better than a gain.

Ok chickies... its time to get our rears in gear!! Easter is approaching quickly, and with that means warm weather. And warm weather means it will be time to pull out shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, short skirts, and swim suits! :sp: I don't know about you guys... but that doesn't sound so great to me right about now. There are five and a half weeks left until Easter... so lets all go for it! Time to really pull it all together: reducing calories, proper nutrition, exercising and moving your body, drinking water, weighing/measuring regularly, setting and reaching goals. No more excuses. We can do it!
 :goodvibes :flow1: :flow2: :cb:

 Thank you Sojorner for reminding us of our focus!
I have been horrible lately. I'm going to try to go to the gym tomorrow. I know I will not work out Sat. and Sun while I'm away and I can't stand the thought of that because it would mean one week w/o working out .
We've all come to far to screw up now. Wantstolose: when I see how much you have lost! WOW! What an inspiration! You can't turn back now!!!
Let's go!
