Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!


It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:


In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! :lol: This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine. :angel:

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally,come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

Today was not a good day for me. Even though I only ended up having to do one 3rd shift, I was out of sorts all day. I had to take my second pause on exercise, as I did none, and my last pause on the breakfast foods for breakfast.

Bad choices all around. Here's to a better tomorrow. Have a great night all :wave:

Hello everyone. I've been MIA. Went on a business trip and then just totally fell off the wagon for a few days. However, I'm back on track today and started over. I've decided the zig-zag is not for me. I'm doing a real nice job with the zig but not so much zag going on, so I'm going back to restricting calories. Going to step up the exercise to hopefully get the weight loss started again.

I'll write more tomorrow. Too tired tonight.

So far, so good. I'm hoping though that the stress does not do me in this week though. Tomorrow is my husbands last day of work and Friday is the day we put the down payment on the dump truck. I'm not a gambler, so starting a business is extremely stressful. So far, I've kinda ignored things to not get too stressed, but this week, there will be no ignoring!

Ashley - I understand about that zig zag. I had a hard time with that zag myself! I think at this point, I need to work on "healthy" and quit stressing on calories too much. Good luck with your challenges!

Red - Good going on those challenges! Especially getting them done so early!

Jolly - Sorry you had a rough day yesterday! Hope today is better!

Hey everyone. Kind of disappeared over the weekend. I tend to do that. ;) But I'm still here. I need to start over with the Slim-fast and pop challenges....went to a dance competition Saturday, so I didn't have any slim-fast, and we went out to eat and i got some pop. Then it went downhill from there into Sunday with the pop. So I'm starting those over. But the Gardettos challenge is still going good.

Hi Red/Everyone!

It's been about a year since I have written. I hope this isn't too discouraging :-P but I gained back every pound I lost last year plus 5. I'm back to hopefully take it all off and keep it off this time.

I attempted many 21 day challenges, but I don't think I ever made it to 21. I'm going to start off with two this time around.

Day 1 completed, ab work, 3 pauses left.
Day 1 (still working this one) eat under 1600 calories, 3 pauses left.

I forgot to mention that I'm still candy-free for lent (except for one day). Didn't include that as a 21-day goal since lent will be over on Sunday.

DJ - I can understand how stressful this time must be. Taking charge of your eating and exercise will help you keep that one stress under control at least. I wish you the best with your new business.

Jolly - sorry for your bad day yesterday. Hopefully today was much better.

Sweet pea - keep it up!

I went out walking tonight after work and it was so beautiful. I just love this time of year. All the flowers are in bloom, it's not too hot yet, the spirit of renewal is present everywhere. I put a little over 11,000 steps on the pedometer without really even noticing it. The only down side was the nasty bug bites!

OK So I got off track a little bit so here are my current stats:

Day 4 - No Cake or Candy - Level 3 - 3 pauses left
Day 1 - Drink 2 Liters of Water - Level 1 - 1 pause left
Day 4 - Exercise 30 minutes every day - Level 3 - 2 pauses left :carrot:

I went on a roadtrip this weekend so I was not able to drink 2 liters of water, I think I got about 1 liter but I am starting over, I don't want to use that pause up so soon.

I am also going to add situps (taking the idea from redballon, I think its a great challenge)

So starting tomorrow - 50 situps a day - level 3 - 3 pauses.

Hey all. Well, I have to restart my breakfast food challenge tomorrow, as I made a bad choice this morning. The only bright spot is that I did stop myself from eating all that was available, but . . .

Another negative is that work ran late the last two nights, so I am back to ignoring my pony again :( Oh well, part of it is training a new manager, so this too shall pass.

So, my challenges . . .
1) Daily posting - day 10, 2 pauses left
2) daily exercise with some sort of weight/stretch/core - day 9, 1 pause left
3) 2 servings per day each of fruits and veggies - day 10, 2 pauses left
4) Breakfast foods for breakfast - restarting 4/4/07

Looks like everyone is doing well. I would really like to stay on program even though I'm going to be traveling to see family for Easter. All the good intentions just seem to fly out the window when traveling. Plus, I'll be able to eat candy again. That craving has finally reduced from thinking about it 50 times per day, now I only think about it 5 times per day!

I'd like to join you guys here. I need all the help I can get. I'm having problems with sticking to what I have planned food wise for the day. I'll have all my meals planned out, healthy meals, but then I decide I feel like a some bad fast food instead and I'll go with that and I throw away the rest of the day.

So my challenge will be sticking to my food plans for the next 21 days. It's a level 3 for me because I suck at sticking to my plans.

So here goes nothing!!

It was a day.. That's all I can say. It was a day. I am really struggling right now, but am trying to keep motivated.

Ashley, now I smile. Green beans are the only food on that list I would eat for ANY meal. Euw. And, lately it has been more leftovers for breakfast when pausing, but the list is long and food pornish, so, yeah, mmm, anyway.

I am going off to snuggle in bed. Winter decided to visit us again. Have a good one all, and welcome Rosario.

I just realized that I counted my Day 2 while I was still on Day 2 :-P. But it's cool because I did complete it successfully. I'm finding myself missing those extra calories! I'm not hungry, I just want to snack more at night. So the below 1600 part of my challenge is really helpful. Hopefully by the end this won't be a big deal.

Ashley - it looks like we are at similar places. Same height, almost same weight heading to almost the same weight :-P.

Ashley - my slim-fast goal is just to have one slim fast meal every day. I have a really hard time with being consistent, so that's why I picked that goal.

Screwed up with the pop again yesterday. I don't know how to go about giving up pop. Giving it up cold turkey just isn't working for me. any suggestions?

Made it through another day and even got my exericise in for today! I tried a spinning class this morning for the first time and really liked it. I think I'll keep doing it for now, but I will probably try a new time slot/instructor. I really liked the instructor, but she didn't play the kind of music that I like so I've got to find out which instructors play the kind of music that makes ME want to move.

Eesabella, Red, looks like you're both doing good! Hang in there!

LaBonita - Some habits can be so hard to break! Is there any kind of replacement you can use that you enjoy, such as tea or something? Or, maybe you could allow yourself a "treat" of soda once a week or so for something to look forward to.

ees -- That's amazing, that you're sticking under 1600. I have an enormous appetite, don't think I could do that longer than two days and then I'd be snatching food from other people's plates! :lol3: ees, the veg juice is just whatever I decide to throw in the juicer. Recently, I've just been using carrots only with a touch of fresh lemon. Heavenly! But, today I added spinach and cabbage. It tasted pretty gross but I take it as medicine like.

Hmmm I love carrot juice! I think that is all I've tried for vegetable juice... V8 which I think is very tasty. That's funny that you still drink something that is so yucky. I was watching an informercial for Jack LaLane's juicer the other day. They were sticking whole fruits (seeds, stems, skins and all) and veggies in it. When the woman finally picked up the glass and drank up the green contents I watched her face for a hint of gagging :-P. But she seemed to like it!

I'm surprised that I haven't been too hungry. I think that part of it is that my exercise is on the mild side. You still do a ton of exercise, don't you Red? How many calories do you usually to eat?

I missed my abs yesterday, oh well. I'm going to do them right now so that it doesn't get too late to do them again!

Yep, took a pause on both. Besides the fact that I really was busy yesterday, I was also rather tired. The day before, I had done an hour spinning class in the morning, then went back in the afternoon and did 40 minutes of weights and 40 minutes on the treadmill. Phew! Think it all caught up to me!

My pause on the snack, I have no excuse for. I even knew what I was grabbing and, well, no pauses left there :o

Eesa - You're probably right about the lighter exercise you do and not feeling the need to eat so much. The days that I work out really hard, I'm soooo hungry! The days that I don't, not nearly as bad. I'm such a workout junky, that I'm always scared to go too low on calories. Although, the scale is not moving, so I'll have to do something soon or I'll never lose the rest of this weight!

Keep up the good work!

Red - You're rolling right along! By the way, if you ever figure out how to get past that appetite of yours, please let me know! My appetite seems to be the same. With the amount that I exercise, I should lose more, but the food part keeps getting in the way! :?:

DJ I wish I had some advice for you on eating... I used to workout a lot more and I was constantly eating, so I know what you're talking about. I think that I just took advantage of days when I wasn't as hungry and I did lose weight. I want to pump up my exercise a bit now. Because I'm not losing much - today was my first weigh-in and I lost only 6 ounces! :dizzy: hopefully next week will be better.

I think it's my answer, changing my thinking. It has stopped me smoking and so and I am a lot thinner than I used to be as a teen and I know my thinking has really changed from then! Good luck on keeping going! :dancer:

ees-- Fresh carrot juice is great. I really like it. It's not at all like the bottled stuff though, at least not the kind I know. Actually, juice made with fruit juice is all pretty good. I just don't put it in because I don't want the calories. Of course, the woman on the commercial isn't going to make a face! :barf: You're too silly! :dizzy: :lol: Yeah, I do a lot of exercise but wouldn't dare venture a thought on my calories. I have to count them. I really don't know. Must be at least 2,000, more like 2,500 probably. Up and at 'em tomorrow, ees! Get those abs done! :strong:

Ok, back on track again! I'm really pusing myself to get back on track also with my eating. I keep telling myself that I've already lost 80 pounds, (well, 90 and gained 10 back), so if I could do that, why can't I lose the rest? I've got to get myself back to where I was before.

Red - You'll have to keep me informed about your new book and what you think of it. I used to be skeptical about books helping me until I read that quit smoking book and loved it.

Eesa - Yeah, the food/exercise thing is tough. Exercise can help you lose weight, as we all know, but it can also raise your appetite. It's a matter of getting the balance figured out and that's what I need to work on. I also know part of my eating problem right now is stress with starting a new business among other things. I just to get back into control!

Congrats on the 6 ounces though! May not seem like much, but the scale is moving in the right direction!

I lost track of where I was at, so am restarting all of my challenges today. All are level 3's.

1) daily exercise with some sort of core/weight/stretch.
2) daily post
3) breakfast foods for breakfast
4) 2 servings each of fruits and veggies.

Hope you all had a lovely Easter. It was really cold in the southeast. Felt more like Christmas weather than Easter.

I'm back from visiting family and am just going to start over. Kept up with the exercise, but not the calories. I'm going to be traveling quite a bit over the next month, so I'm setting up my challenges with that in mind. On the plus side, I did day 1 of the couch to 5k program today and didn't fall unconscious on the side of the road. Managed to stumble all the way back to my house and am even still awake at 10:15.

Calories - under 1,600 if at home and under 2,000 if traveling
Food log every day
Exercise every day - 10,000 steps on the pedometer or C-5k or one hour of some form of exercise

Those are all level 3 and I complete day 1 today.

I'm sorry I haven't been checking in, but DH was doing taxes and it was just about impossible to get any computer time. I'm also dealing with some issues concerning my sick mother AND my really really stupid cat ate some forgien obejects that lodged in his intestine and he needed surgery. ($$$!!!)
He is home today but I'm still really worried about him. And we were away for the week-end too. No place especially fun, visiting the in-laws. So last week was really tough, and I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm glad to hang out with you guys where I know you are listening, and experiencing some of the same stuff.:hug:
Well, that said I need to come up with a new challenge or 2. No beer definately. I would also like to eat a salad everyday, but I'm taking another short trip soon so I'll wait until I get back. I planted an oak barrell full of lettuce and it's perfect and delicious now. It's so awsome to be able to step out the door and pick your own salad. Oh yum. So no beer, 2 pauses and a salad challenge and a calorie challenge coming up shortly.
DJ, I see you are moving along well as usual. I (sort of) know what you mean about getting yourself back to where you were before. I had some success last fall, I just need to get back to that "place" where everything was clicking.
You too Red, you are off to a good start. I have a juicer and I never use it. Which drives my husband nuts. I hate store bought carrot juice but now I am tempted to try it....

I have come out of lurk mode and couldn't resist a thread by Red! ;) Naturally I had to peek in on Happy's too. And you know what??!!?? You both confused the heck out of me. No suprise there eh... Being the fearless feminine that I am, I decided to jump on in here! I adore challenges, especially where I am the only opponant! :lol:

I have read and re-read your rules Red. Not totally understanding the whole concept but what I got sounds good to me! 21 days of chittering with you all, coupled with either begining or breaking a habit... Love it!! :broc: <~~ ( Thats a new one since I have been here. Had to find a place to use it.. its adorable!! )

My challenges are a level 3 because they are important to me. Concept correct? I need to show myself I can do more and that lil things do count. :smug:

1) Up my water by 24 oz. Thats only 1 extra glass a day.
2) 600 bounces on the mini trampoline per day.

This is a short but sweet howdie-do for me. For those of you who don't know me... Don't get used to it, sassy is a wordy, windy, wenchlette!! :rofl:

Hi Sassy :wave: welcome! The levels I think are low to high/easiest to hardest since with a level three you get more pause days. That's the way I look at it anyway.

The carrot juice I've had was home juiced too :-P... although I think I may have tried some store bought stuff a while back. I think it was Fresh Samantha's and I think I liked it. The V8 was store bought obviously. I like the low sodium kind.

Apple, I'm sorry to hear about your mom and your cat! Hang in there.

Day 2 done on all counts – exercise, calories and food log. I was totally astonished to wake up this morning and not be stiff at all after my "run" yesterday. It's hard to call it a run - more like a really slow jog. Hard to imagine that I'll be able to run for 25 minutes in just a few weeks, but I'm thinking positive thoughts. I did an hour of shoulder rehab weight lifting today and managed to also put 8,000 steps on the pedometer, so can check off the exercise goal.

DJ – I hear you on the calorie counting. Even if you don’t restrict the total calories, just being aware of them makes a big difference.

Sassy – happy to meet you and good luck with your challenges.

Apple – welcome back. I'm sorry to hear about your mother and hope she is doing better now. I hate when animals do something stupid like eat foreign objects. It always ends up being an expensive repair and requiring lots of TLC once the animal comes home.

Jolly – it’s so easy to fall off the wagon with the holidays. You’ve starting some good challenges.

Red – looks like you’re moving right along with your challenges – half-way done with them.

thanks for all the kind words regarding my mom and the cat. My mom was well today and Stupid Cat was feeling crummy this morning so I thought he was dying but we went out for a little while and he was back to his growly self when we got back. It's just going to take time I guess.
Day 1 for no beer is done. If there had been a beer in the house I would have had it though. If there had been a lime in the house I would of had a :hat: But I think I'm gonna stay clean for a while.
I really have to go to bed, busy day tomorrow.

Day 3 done - exercise, food log, calories. I did the second workout of the first week in Couch to 5k and have to say that it was not exactly invigorating. I was gasping for air before the workout was even half done. Hopefully this will improve as time goes by. Too tired to write more and I've still got to clean up the kitchen.

have to get to bed now, as I have to leave for work early tomorrow. I have a long drive for work, but it is to do something kind of fun and political, so YEAH.

Was so busy yesterday I didn't even realize I hadn't posted! I took another spinning class yesterday, with a different instructor and she really kicked my butt! I'm definitely feeling it this morning.

Jolly - Hope your "kind of fun and political" thing went well. I must say, you have me curious as to what exactly you're talking about though!

Ashley - I can see myself feeling the same way with the running, however, I'm sure you WILL improve! My problem with running is that I don't try it often enough to see any improvement. I admire you for doing it!

Hey Red - You're on a roll! Keep up the good work. How's the Beck book coming? It's funny you mentioned it the other day and then yesterday, while in the dentist office, I read an excerpt of the book in a magazine. Sounded very interesting. Might have to buy it myself I guess.

The fun polictical thing was going to testify at the state's joint finance committee public hearing. My voice got shaky - which I hate. 4 years of forensics in high school should have taken care of that. Course, high school was a while ago.

Wow - just realized I haven't been posting for the past few days. Possibly that was on purpose since I've taken two pause days on calorie intake. One just ran a little over 1600 before I realized it and the other was an all-out binge on cookies. The exercise situation is going very well though. Today I took a 4-hour canoe class, did the 3rd workout of couch-5k, and cleaned house for an hour. I'm so ready for bed now.

Hello. I got back from my short holiday during which I drank beer so I'm starting that one over. I completed day one yesterday. (2 pauses allowed.)
And I'm starting no candy and daily salad today. (2 pauses allowed but I really don't want to use them at least on the candy one.) School starts back up tomorrow (we've been on spring break) so I can get back to some kind of exercise routine again.
My husband is having hip surgery and the date was moved up to eary May. He's excited about that, but my selfish core is upset because I was hoping to get away BY MYSELF for a few days but that's no longer possible.:mad: Oh well, thats the way it goes I guess. Hopefully I don't go insane during the next 2 months or so.:crazy:
Looks like eesabeella and ashley are in the same boat with the calorie thing. I hope you can both pull it off! I'm rooting for you!!:cheer2:

Not sure why I didn't post yesterday, but weekends are always busy so I guess that's my excuse. Yep, blew it on my snack challenge. However, I'm not too upset with myself. I've really cut back on those darn things and at least I now think before grabbing one when I'm hungry.

Apple - It's so funny that you are doing a salad challenge! The other day I decided to keep a big bowl of salad in the fridge at all times and make myself eat some everyday. I'm hoping it helps to fill me up without too many calories! Good luck with it!

Ashley - Isn't it funny how when we do bad, we want to avoid coming here and admitting to it? Sometimes I have to force myself to write and just get it over with. All in all though, it sounds like you are doing just fine. You seem to be good with your calories most of the time and you're getting in that exercise! That's great!

Esabella, calorie counting is really hard. It helps a lot. When I am successful, calorie counting is part of it. Hopefully you can come up with something a little easier. Eliminate a high calorie item you find yourself eating too much!

If I stick to just a salad for dinner, then thats a bonus! Even though you didn't complete your snack challenge, you did achieve its purppose, which was to pay more attention to your consumption. It just sounded like it might make some sense to me and I need a kick to get going on this weight loss again. Anyway, one of the things the book wants me to do is to ALWAYS eat sitting down, so that is my new challenge.

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to see everyone is doing so well!

Couldn't get on last night because I have school until 10pm so I was too pooped to write a blog... but

and sadly i gave up the crunches goal for know- i wanted to focus mostly on the weight wacthers, maybe i'll do it for the next challenge.

eesabella i loveee weight watchers! I have been doing it for about 5 years- clearly on and off b/c i'm still not at goal weight- but I think it's the most sensible diet. You can eat whatever you'd like but the program teaches you moderation! Let me know if you have any other questions about it!

Still, thinking about it now that I've read most of is totally sound and maybe it did help hearing it all together in one place...without the tedious addition of calories, food plans etc. Oh, and wow!! Wow, that eating while sitting down is pretty hard! I have lost track of how many times I went to put something in my mouth only to realize that I had to sit in order to do it. That made me mostly change my mind about eating it and I have ended up with a lower calorie count. Not a huge amount, but enough to make me happy.

Future - Well, can't say that I'd want a cold, but yeah, it does help those food urges go away since you can't taste anything! Too bad about the crunch challenge though. Maybe next time!

Red - Yeah, I went and bought the book. I decided that it can't hurt and might help. I have not read it all, but I am reading it slowly and trying to do the exercises in it such as eating sitting down, eating slowly and writing down things that might help me during rough times. It is making my think more about what I'm doing like I did in the past when I lost all that weight. We'll see how it goes!

djstorey- it must be really hard to sit down while eatting- I never realized home much eatting I must do while standing! Your doing a great job with all the excersicing- although I realize it's not one of your goals- But kudos to being healthy!!!

I can't remember if I did the crunches yesterday or not, so I'll take my last pause day. It's getting harder to remember if I do them because doing them has become rather automatic! I guess that's a good sign... :^:

I think though, if I ate sitting down I may just stay sitting and eat even more! ;) Good luck on your new challenges. I think I'm going to reread parts of the book today and start actually doing them. My biggest challenge is to plan meals/snacks ahead of time. I know that if I did this it would really help me lost weight, but I resist doing it something fierce! Yes, you did lose a lot of weight. I hadn't really noticed that from beneath your avatar. Wow! You should be so proud of that accomplishment! Of course, it gets harder the closer you are to goal, but you can do it. Let's work together. I really don't want to make planning a challenge for now, which just goes to show how conflicted I apparently am on wanting to lose and actually making the necessary effort...hmmm....just why is that? I don't know. Who am I kidding? With the warm weather, I hate the idea of not being able to hide my rolls of fat around my waist under lightweight shirts and it makes me self-conscious and ill at ease. Sigh. I think I'm going to have to commit to a challenge sooner or later, one that really is about losing weight.

It's funny, yesterday I caught myself putting something in my mouth and thinking, "great, I blew it", but I can't even remember what it was! The good news is that I "did" catch myself even though I now have to take a pause.

Future - Yep, it's amazing just how much food can go into my mouth while I'm not sitting! A taste here, a taste there and pretty soon I've had a couple hundred unintended calories! Thanks for the compliment on the exercise. Luckily for me, I love to workout. A couple of years ago I would have never thought I would say that, but that's one change for the better! Now, if I could just get past the food issues!

Good job on your challenges, but tell that man of yours to save those tasty desserts for VERY special occasions!

Red - I admit, challenging myself to eat sitting down is kind of funny, but, it has shaved some calories off my day already so what the heck. Who knows, it might help you a little too! :dunno:

I agree on the planning though. I don't plan meals well. I tend to want to eat what I'm in the mood for or what I'm in the mood to cook. What I'm doing for the planning is a little different. I'm keeping healthy and low calorie snacks on hand that are ready to eat. I'm making myself keep a bowl of salad in the fridge so it's ready to go and I'm keeping washed and ready to eat fruit too. The hardest part is taking the time to wash and cut all the fruits and vegies up ahead of time, but it really doesn't take all that long to do it and it's always there for me when I get hungry. The other thing I keep handy is some black bean dip that I make myself. It's really good, gives me some protein, and with some high fiber crackers it's a pretty filling snack.

Maybe you can find just one thing that will help with the planning part and add others as you are willing. Something has to work for us! I'm also tired of having to hide these rolls of fat under big clothes! Let's keep reading, maybe something will click for us.

Well, moving right along. I really had to force myself to do the challenges today, take time out from junk food eating to make the veg juice... :^: I had just done the crunches yesterday and skipped the juice (had a bit too much of a different variety the night before...) so I have no pauses but am neck and neck again. Two more days...come on, I can do this!!! Tuesday will be hard because I have so little time in the morning and then get home too late to be making juice, but I will do it, I will!!


SilverIris -- Welcome to our thread! :welcome: Glad you find things exciting! Those are two tough challenges you have. Convenience stores are my downfall too...well, one of them. dj -- You've got guts, taking on a challenge like "eat sitting down!" I really eat standing up, walking all the time! It's not so much snacking, it's eating while moving from place to place, from the riding club to the train, from the convenience store back to the office and into a meeting. No, it's not good. But...I'm not going to do it yet...chicken...chicken...I know, I know. But, I am determined to start planning from tomorrow and writing everything down. I'm going to stealth it for a few days and if I think I can handle it, I'll make it a challenge. Don't hold your breath, anyone. ;)

Took a break on the exercise. I think I needed it. I felt really tired yesterday, which for me, can mean that I'm working out too hard and that it's time for a break.

Everything else was good. Calories were logged, but it wasn't a pretty sight to see the amount. My family ganged up on me and insisted I "order" dinner for once. I had to "guesstimate" what the calories were and I tried to be as realistic as possible. Let's just say that my total calories for dinner were more than 2x the normal! :eek:

Come on Red! 2 more to go. You CAN do it!

Just wanted to say that I am still around. I'm taking off for vacation today, wew hew! I blew both of my challenges. I am happy that I made it as far as I did though! I will be back in a week and ready to start new ones.

Eat only while sitting... interesting! I'm going to have to try that! I missed the talk about the book this tip comes from, but I think I get the idea. I will try it on my vacation (or at least try to notice how often I do it). This seems to go to the mindful eating practice.

If I counted right I'm done with day 5 on daily salad. I've used up my 2 pauses already so I'm not sure if it's worth continuing or starting over. I think I'll keep going. It might help to eat salad at lunch, then if I forget I'll still have a second chance. We'll see. The other 2 challenges are out the window, but I'll start them up again today.
I'm gaining weight and feeling terrible about myself. Lately I've been really emotional too, but now I'm pretty sure it's PMS. Although its worse than usual. I'm feeling like I am under-acheiving in every part of my life and I feel overwhelmed about a lot of stuff too. This is going to be a really long week. Don't mean to dump on you guys, but it does help to write things down.
I'm glad to see everyone else is doing well. I'll probably drop a line later tonight....

I got through another day, made it to the gym this morning to boot! It was hard, I only did light weights and jogged 3 K, bit by bit and only after feeling like I was totally wimping out (which I was) if I didn't do more. Anyhow, I got through it and felt glad :goodvibes I did!

Apple -- I know how you feel! I've been in a similar boat recently too. Ap, just take the pole down a notch or two for now. You're probably doing fine, and besides, who's keeping score anyhow? You really shouldn't be if you are. Have some fun. If you feel like you're underachieving" then just laugh with it. Heck, you could just throw it all in, go sleep in the street somewhere, right? Imagine what you'd do if you were REALLY underachieving. Picture the extreme in your mind and laugh at yourself, then think about just how much better you're doing. Overwhelming is another problem. Sometimes we just have to say STOP! and let the others do it all, or at least part. In any case, you vent all you want. You don't do it that often and we all know how you feel. But, you know, I see FIVE salad days :broc::broc::broc::broc::broc: and that's not NOTHING! :nono: Give yourself some great, kiddo! And climb out that window while you're at it and haul those two challenges back! :lol3:

TOM is probably fueling the fire, I'm so emotional it's almost silly. Oh how I wish I could let someone else do it all, but that's just not an option right now.
It will really help if I could just get something moving along the right track. I'll keep plugging away at these challenges...

I've noticed that lately I've just not had the energy that I normally have and some days I have a hard time making it through a workout. I was talking with one of the trainers at the gym and she said that I might be overdoing the exercise and as an experiment, to try taking 3 or 4 days off. Then, when I start up again, not do so many "intense" exercise days, so, I'm trying it.

Normally, I do pretty intense cardio workouts 5-6 days a week and do weights 3 times a week. I'm going to reduce the intense days to 3 and make the other 3 more moderate. Do something like walk maybe. Guess I'll try to enjoy the days off!

Today was my horse's birthday! Yeah!! I gave her extra apples and cut grass for her (pastureland is nearly nonexistent here) and I had planned to give her a bath but a sudden thunderstorm came up and the temperature plummeted. Will go for it soon. Anyhow, she turned 14. :bday2you:


dj -- Glad to see you're doing SO well! Good for you! How do you find the time to log all the calories?!? :dunno: It's something I have to do but I just cringe at the tedium.
It does sound like you may be overdoing it at the gym. If you're going "intense"...just how do you define that? bpm? then you are likely depleting your glycogen stores and your body doesn't know how to switch to burning fat instead. It's something marathon runners have to train their bodies to do, that's why they do a lot of LSD. No, no, no acid here...Long Slow Distance, like going for two hours at a slow jog. After about 40 minutes you'll find yourself getting a second wind after a while and that's the body changing to fat stores. I used to do it and should again, but back then I got a stress fracture in my foot I think and it was so painful I couldn't jog for some weeks. In any case, try doing less intense exercise that burns off glycogen and go for longer easier stuff, but yes, allow your body some rest for now and you'll be energized again!

future -- You're doing so well too! Making me look pretty, pretty bad! :( Just kidding. Keep going. You're almost out of the backstretch!

Apple -- Heh, belated thanks for the congrats! :thanks: Yeah, it was nice to be through the challenge. Making the juice was tough, especially on the days I have to be up at 4:30 and have so much to do before I leave and have to leave on time or I'll miss the train. :whoo:

Hey all :wave: Just wanted to come in and say HOWDY.

I really have been trying to figure out where my head is at. They say "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results." I guess I am trying to figure out what I have been doing over and over again.

I am also trying to figure out what is working and what is not in my life. TOPS is not working. So I am not going to waste my time, or spend the energy feeling guilty when I don't go. To be honest, right now having a horse is not working. It has become a chore, instead of a pleasure. I am going to be talking to my dad tomorrow (he co-owns the horse with me), and discuss selling. There are many reasons, but right now it just doesn't work. My heart will break a little - I have had him since he was a baby, and he is like a member of the family - but a bigger dream right now is to own my own home. As a single woman, I just can't do both.

Anyway. I am off to a conference for the next two days. I am starting to make some changes, but will wait to start challenges until I get back and can post. the challenges may look familiar, but how I am approaching things is different.

Well, I have totally lost track of everything. I'm probably OK, on a challenge or 2, but, not sure. So, I think I'll just start over. I could come up with lots of reasonably good excuses for losing track of everything, but, I won't. So....

Red - Sorry to hear you've had it rough lately, but I'm sure we all understand. I just wish I knew why we do that to ourselves. One day we'll be going along just fine, the next, we're eating things that normally wouldn't cross our lips. Best thing we can do is to pick ourselves back up, dust off and get back on track. Looking forward to see your new challenges!

Yes, I was reading about that whole glycogen thing. When you mentioned LSD though, I admit, you had me going! Glad you explained that one quickly to me. ;) I have done nothing these last few days other than take walks, and I've kept them at a slower pace than normal. Maybe 3 - 3.5 mph rather than around 4 mph. I seem to be feeling better, but, it's taking longer than it thought it would. I'm getting back to it starting today, but I'll still take it a little easier than normal.

Future - Glad to hear you're doing well with everything! Good job keeping up when life is busy!

Jolly - Sorry to hear about your horse, but is sounds like you are really looking to make some serious changes in you life. I hope all works out for you!

Sorry I haven't been around, but the kids have been really busy with activities. By the end of this week things should be a lot more mellow. DH comes home today!!! (He's been gone for 3 weeks!) Hurray!!!And he has his surgery on Wednesday. Since he isn't going to be moving around much for a week or 2, we are both going to be dieting. I am giving myself 6 weeks to lose 10 pounds. I'll be appearing in public in a bathing suit really soon. :eek: I don't usually like to set goals like that but it needs to get done this time. So what are the challenges? Hmmm. Haven't figured it out yet.

Hello. Day one of my "diet" went OK. Day 1 no beer and no candy. Here's another one: No eating after dinner! I've been doing that a lot lately. I'd like to hover aroung 1200 cals, but I'm not up to actually logging that info, so I'll try my best just to keep a mental tally.
Future: when you are done with your challenge, start another one! Just keep rolling with it, you are doing great! Don't worry about 60 min of exercise, even a quick 10 min walk would help. As long as you are happy with your results, just keep it up, but you might need some extra :kickbutt: if your losses slow down.

Yep, starting over the eating sitting down. I completely forgot and don't know if I did or not. I really need to be more conscious about that. When I do it, I save a couple hundred calories each day from what I've noticed.

Ok, doing much better with eating while sitting. That one is really tough for me. My calories are finally coming down by using that challenge along with something else I've started doing. Yoga. It seems to really help my stress levels, which are very high lately. I noticed that on the days that I did the yoga, my calories were less. I think it calms me down enough that I'm not doing as much stress eating. I'm going to keep that one up and see how it goes.

Jolly & Future - Glad to see you doing well on your challenges! Keep up the good work.

Apple - Hope your husband is doing well.

Took a day off yesterday from exercise and counting calories. We had a nice family day, went to the museum to see their latest and then went out to lunch. That's something we just don't do too often, so I enjoyed it and will be back on track today.

The weather looks much better today, so maybe I'll get out for a walk. Yesterday we woke up to SNOW :eek: ! Luckily it all was melted by the afternoon, but still, snow in May! Spring in Idaho is always iffy though, people around here still talk about the snowstorm they got on the 4th of July one year some time ago.

Jolly - Good job keeping those challenges during a rough day! And, yes, you can blame pms for your slip, that way, I have some justification when I blame it too ;) ! I just always tell myself that I'm only allowed to use that excuse once a month though. The other 29/30 days, it just won't work.

Hi everyone! My husband is doing great! It has been a long week (I can't believe its been a week already!) but I think things are starting to settle down. All challenges out the window, oh well. I was seriously thinking about dropping out for a while, but I am having a positive moment :halffull: and I also still want to lose some weight!! Plus I'd miss you guys. :grouphug:
Not sure about a challenge yet, but Probably no beer, probably some kind of exercise and who knows what else...

I have picked a 1/2 marathon in September. I have to choose my training program. Wish me luck all. Right now, 2 miles is a pain. I can do this.

Hated to take another pause on the exercise yesterday, but this darn cold that I have had kept me from sleeping for a few days and I was just too tired to move! In case you have been wondering what happened to me, well work and travel and no home internet did. There was only so much I could do from work.

Back home again now and starting to pack for my holiday in the States and Canada. No challenges for a while, but I have been steadily losing small amounts of weight. 5.5k down from January now when my ny's resolution was to lose 1/10th of my body weight which was 7.97kg. I'm getting there.

I'll be back for challenges some time in July

I hear you Red. And I can not be trusted around FOOD. I had a day today. I was in a funk - I don't know why. Probably a combo of feeling sad about selling the horse, worried about finding a good home, and worried about finances. I made bad choices.

I am restarting (again) the follow menu challenge tomorrow, and starting a new one - follow exercise plan. I have one set up to get me to the 1/2 marathon.

Blech. Restart again.

Everyone else, here's to you. Keep looking ahead, and give yourselves credit for being the wonderful people you are :wave:

Hi. I got caught up in week-end craziness and I need to restart. Um...restart what? Oh yeah, daily walk. I spoke with an acquaintance recently who has been running long distances and it makes me really want to get back into it. I was doing pretty good with my running, I'm going to try to get on it again. Good timing, it's getting hot around here. :cool:
Jolly, when is that 1/2 marathon? I think I'll try to enter a race aroung the same time. Probably not that far though.

Well, the alcohol thing got sidelined yesterday. But I'm not starting over. I'll take the pause, even though I only had one day under my belt, a belt, which is, by the way, having to be let out more and more...disgusting! :barf:
The sugar challenge is harder than I expected this time around as I'd fallen into slovenly ways.... :mad: ... but I am NOT going to allow it any longer! :nono: I can do it. It's just a matter of resolve! Crunches are not hard, as long as I get home in time to do them and as long as I'm in a condition to do them...which is easier with the no alcohol challenge keeping a lid on excesses!


Apple -- Thanks! Best of luck on the walking challenge. Ahh, it would be good to be out running. I walk a lot, just feel and probably am way to heavy to be running on the concrete. Do you or would you run on the treadmill or do you want to be out doing races?

Apple, the 1/2 marathon is 9/2. I am doing 5k races on 7/28 and 9/23 as well. Here's hoping. Good luck, and let me know which one you pick.

Red, I hear you on the "slovenly ways." I have just gotten so bad with my food. If I get through the basic first stage of following my menu, I need to tighten up more. Get back to where I was last year. Yikes!!

Another 2 days done. Still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for new challenges.

One of my biggest problems with keeping my calories down right now is dinner. During the time that I lost all that weight, my husband was working swing shift, so I didn't do much cooking. Now, he's back to being home in the evenings and I'm cooking full meals again on most days of the week. I realize that isn't my ONLY problem with food lately, but it is a big one for me. I guess I never really learned how to deal with "dinner" during my successful dieting days. Somehow I've got to get that under control and I think my new challenges will be related.

Hi Red - Sorry you had to restart, but, glad you're going on! Sometimes it can be so hard to get a challenge going, but once you do, it gets easier. (gotta remind myself too!) Now that day 1 is done, you've started that ball rolling!

Well, I'm trying to get to the gym before work. I have lost most if not all motivation and find it increasingly hard to get out and there. I have fallen into lazy mornings and am actually enjoying them more than the feeling of accomplishment from getting to the gym. When you're busy it's easy to ignore the benefits of exercise and eating healthily and then it creeps up on you and you feel disgusted, out of shape and lethargic. :mad: I really don't like it. It's amazing how the rest of the world doesn't give a care if you maintain your health, but lays the demands on you. Well, self-protection is the name of the game! That's what I'll focus on!! :strong:


dj -- A big hand to yet two more days behind you! :cp: It must be very hard having to make dinner for other people and watch your eating at the same time. I could not do it and find it is one of the great attractions of single life. I suppose you just have to plan the dinner in and force yourself to include that in your daily intake, even though you may prefer to eat earlier. I don't know. Either that, you let your husband make his own dinner! ;)

Sorry I have not been posting as often as normal. Things have just been crazy around here and my stress level is very high. Things had gotten put on a temporary hold for starting that business I had talked about before, and now things are suddenly taking off. I've never been a gambler and hate to even spend a nickel on a slot machine, so spending these massive amounts of money to get this business going, but not seeing any money coming back in yet, is making me crazy! There are also so many rules and regulations that I'm trying to learn, it's enough to make your head spin! :dizzy: Hopefully soon, things will get a little easier, but for the next couple of weeks I will just keep taking deep breaths and try to get on here when I can.

Well, I had some blood work done last week and it turns out that I have a hypo thyroid. So all this stuff thats been going on with me, that I blame on stress, actually has roots in a biological disfunction. Wow. I still think stress has a lot to do with it, but it's compounded by the thyroid. I have another Dr.s appt next week and we'll see if I'll be getting some meds that might give my metabolism a little boot. :kickbutt: My cholesterol is a little high too, as well as my fasting blood sugar. I'm genetically predisposed for those, so it's time to really take better care and get rid of this weight.
I don't even know where I'm at with my exercise challenge, I think I'll just re-start. I sort of walked today, but it was pretty weak to fit it into the challenge. I could waffle, but I won't. :D I'm going to try to figure out an exercise schudule that includes running and the gym, but I'll still be walking everyday at the very least. And I'm off beer.:rofl: No really, I'm gonna do it this time.

Apple - Sorry to hear about that blood work, but be glad you'll be getting things under control now. Trust me, you'll feel so much better when your thyroid levels are good! I'm hypo too and have been at both ends of the extreme (hyper and hypo) and it's amazing how much better you feel when they get your meds at the right level.

Jolly - Thanks for the pep talk. I need it! As cool as it is to start a business, it is also scary. I'm just one of those people who doesn't like to gamble and this is a big one to me. I am hopeful though that it will work out. We just need to get things going! We've been in a holding pattern now for almost 2 months so money has been moving out, but not in. Good job on making those challenges!

DJ- I think when "experts" say gardening is exercise they must have acres of land they hand rake on a daily basis. I never count gardening as exercise either. You don't exactly get the heart rate going. Housework is a better work out ! But at least we're off the couch!;)

Hey all. I just had to come on here quick for some posting. I have got a lot going on in my head right now. I will continue with a menu and a workout plan, but I am taking it off as a "challenge," and just continuing with my posting challenge. I need to keep coming here while I get my thoughts in order.

Part of it is wondering what I want to do when I grow up, and figuring out if what I am thinking of is a realistic goal, or is in fact another BIG DREAM that I won't finish. Sigh.

Apple - Yep, you have the same take on gardening that I do. Unless I'm out there digging holes or hauling dirt and rocks, I just don't think of it as aerobic.

Hi Red - Good job with the alcohol! The way I'm going lately, I might have to do that challenge myself! My 2 or 3 glasses of wine per week has turned into 1 a day! I know that's not terrible, but I have a hard enough time with those darn calories!

Apple Blossom, high cholesterol is elevated with hypothyroidism. If the thyroid is treated, the cholesterol should come down. Given you also have high blood sugar, sounds like "metabolic syndrome" all together. Make sure your doc is treating you for these in combination.

Hi all. Well, my victory with alcohol did not last. It seems I can do better when it's more of a challenge... :^: I'm feeling very disgusted with myself. The hours out with coworkers are just too much of a waste of time, both that night and the following day. Today I couldn't get out to see my horse and that makes me so angry. Sigh. I did stay off the sugar though. I forgot to do the crunches again though. I am NOT starting over. I am resolved to do them every day for the next two weeks. There is NO reason I cannot! :mad:

Well, I'm pretty bummed out. Things are ridiculous at work and I am going to have to put my head down and trudge on. I really need a vacation.

Hey all. Red, I didn't mean to sound down on myself. I have just been dealing with selling the horse, planning to get financially sound, and exploring continuing education options. I want to go back to school. Unfortunately (at least for the financially sound part) what has been calling me the most is LAW SCHOOL:fr: So, as I sift through desires, needs, emotions - I just need to cut some slack right now until I get a direction again. So, I will keep posting, as you all help so much, but not put pressure on for the diet and exercise challenges right this second. Then I don't feel so guilty if I can't get to the gym in the morning because I was tossing and turning all night :rofl:

Good morning all. I just had to come on this morning real quick, and report a NSV. It was my morning to jog. Despite all the other craziness, I still want to train for the 1/2 marathon. So, I need to jog. I didn't want to. I really didn't want to. So, I used Red's mantra - do it despite having no motivation. I decided that even if I had to walk every other block, I was going to go out and do the two miles I was supposed to. As I got out there, I kept trying to go a little further, and a little further again, but kept telling myself I could walk every other block if needed - the result:?: I jogged the whole two miles without stopping, and even had a tiny extra push for the last hill. Hurray!

Augigi: Thanks for the advice. From the little on-line reseach I've been doing, it does seem that all 3 go together. Not sure about metabolic syndrome, that seems a bit extreme. The Dr. appt is tomorrow, so we'l see what happens!
Red, don't worry too much about the alcohol slip up, you still have 2 pauses left. And you've done it before! You can do it again!! It's those sticky notes around your place so you don't forget!!!
Jolly, it sounds like your head must be swimming with the many big desicions you are about to make. I'm glad you are still motivated to run the 1/2 marathon. I find the time spent running is a great time to think things through. Kind of a meditation. Unless you crank up some music and meditate that way! Either way, it's great stress relief. Good job getting out there when you really didn't want to!

Hello all. I made some progress on my challenges. I managed to bypass the alcohol. One was me being turned down, the other was my turning down someone else and the third was my not taking part in the ongoing drinking at another place....alcohol seems to flow pretty freely in my environs! :^:
But, I was happy not to have drunk anything and I DID remember to do my crunches, even though I was traveling. Hurrah! The sugar I managed to maintain yesterday and today I decided to take a pause.


Apple -- Thanks for your kind words. Have I done no alcohol with more than 2 weeks and only 2 pauses to go? Hmm...I don't remember. BUT!!!! It doesn't matter. I CAN do it if I just decide to. I can, I can, I can, I can.... You're right about the crunches. I really do have to remind myself to do them these days. Congrats on Day 3!!! :spin:

jolly -- That was some save!!!! Great going!! You did it and you don't need motivation! I do the exact same thing a lot of times....just say to myself I have to get to the gym, I can turn around...I can go to the stable...I don't have to ride...I can jog only 1 km....end up jogging 3. It's a great little boost when you do more than you set out to, but it's also not a bummer when you do only what you allowed yourself to do. In fact, I think it's enough of an accomplishment that you end up feeling so good about yourself you do more. Good for you!

dj -- How are you doing? Did you finish your challenge yet?! I hope so! :woo:

Good job Red. I had another NSV this morning. I have not been sleeping well lately - acid reflux problems. And last night I had to stay up to watch the finale of Dancing with the Stars. So when the alarm went off this morning, I was all set to not work out. But, I decided to go anyway. Granted, it wasn't a super heavy workout, but I did do 20 of cardio, and 1 set of weights. It's something.

Day 19 & 20 & 21 - Exercise, 30 minutes per day - DONE :broc: (had to use my favorite vegie!)

My challenge actually just finished today because I had a pause on Sunday.

Starting tomorrow I am on all new challenges. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I'm going to do, but I do have a few ideas I'm kicking around.

I am on day 19 of my posting challenge.

I finally came to a decision today. I have been feeling out of control. Like I am great at coming up with big ideas and dreams, and crappy at following through and finishing them. So I decided to use some financial advise - make minimum payments on all but one bill, and through everything you got at that bill until it is done. I am going to through all my energy at a couple things, and maintain in other areas until that is accomplished. Sounds weird, I know, but makes sense to me.

Ok, I have come up with a few new challenges to try. I'm going to try to tackle one of my food issues which is eating too fast/therefore too much. Guess I learned to eat fast after having kids. Seems I was always trying to hurry for one reason or another which leads to overeating. This means that my brain does not have time to realize that my stomach is full. I am also working on getting more healthy stuff in.

So here goes....
Put fork/spoon down between each bite - level 3 (this one might cause a few re-starts!)
Half of my dinner plate is filled with vegies which I will eat first - level 3 (this is dinner only)
Exercise 30 minutes everyday - level 3

Ok, hopefully this will help slow me down and help to fill me up with more vegies at dinner.

Jolly - Yep, you're making sense. Sometimes we try to do so many things at once, that nothing is done well. Choosing one or two things to work on sounds like a plan to me! Good luck!

Hey all. Good luck on your new challenges DJ. Hope things get better Red. I was with you today on the vile mood/work connection. Luckily the passive/aggressive pout style of management worked, and things turned around.

Day 20, daily posting. Complete. I didn't get any exercise in. I didn't this morning due to the acid reflux and lack of sleep. Didn't do the yoga I was going to do tonight due to trying (note "trying") to put a new grill together. Just didn't work so well. try again tomorrow.

Good morning everyone.

Starting two new challenges. Well, "new" is relative :dunno:

1) Daily posting. Gee, where have I heard that one before :D I just want to keep doing it, because I know it works. If nothing else, it keeps my health/fitness goals in the back of my mind, because I am coming here!

2) Follow my workout plan. I can even shuffle things as long as I get the right number of each workout in per week.

That's the plan for now. Off to start the day.

I forgot, I had lunch with a lawyer from work yesterday. I am putting the grad school stuff on hold until I get Chance sold - that has to be the prime directive. However, it definitley gave me some good information, a little pat on the back, and a lot to think about.

Well, I started to post yesterday, but got interrupted and never made it back! The putting the fork/spoon down between bites has not made it for a day yet. I'm doing it, just not consistantly. The good news is that I am remembering more and more so I'm not taking that challenge off.

Well, I did the crunches already today, because it'll be a long day...will report in later.

I think I am resisting change, knowing what I have to do, not doing it, story of my life....what I need to do seems so huge, so overwhelming....

I am going to start a non-diet related challenge. I did this before but flubbed it, but this, I believe, is what is really holding me back when it comes to getting the body I say I want. So, here it is, my room again, my unbelievably filthy, messy room. I hereby challenge myself to do something I DON'T want to do, something I RESIST doing, or would have resisted in the past (!), write it down where I can see it (like on the fridge). It can be fairly small but it will involve 1) throwing something out OR 2) cleaning something...NOT just moving something around. I would give myself a pause, but I am under the gun, as I have to travel and someone has to come in to take care of the cats and they CAN'T right now.... :barf: Sigh.

CLEANING challenge -- 0 days completed, no pauses allowed.


dj -- Thanks for the encouragement. :) Your challenges sound like effective ones. . :( On your "putting utensil down challenge" maybe you could allow yourself the day if you did so on the majority of bites. It still would be a huge change, no?

Whew - what a relief. I came on here earlier today to post, and the site was read only. So, at the last moments of the day, I get my post in.

I need a small pat on the back. My workout plan was to run today. i have a real problem with running where people might see me, unless I am part of a pack. I almost started making a bad choice, but instead went to the gym and hopped on the dreaded treadmill. I did have to walk a chunk, but still did do three miles.

I forgot to post two NSVs. The last two nights I had went out with friends. Both nights, I was able to ignore the "beer munchies" when I got home. Well, last night I tried to indulge, but I was not going to drive out of my way, and the first place didn't have what I wanted and the second was closed. But, I didn't get anything different, and I didn't have anyhting when I got home. Hurray:cb:

Ok, I'm taking the idea from Red, I will count the day as good for putting my utensil down 90% of the time. It is actually starting to work. I am putting the darn thing down for the most part. I just get distracted sometimes and forget.

Had to take a pause on the exercise yesterday. We took off for the day and went fishing. Did do a little walking, but it was sporadic and I'm not going to count it.

Jolly - :cp: Congrats on those NSV's and on getting to the gym! Great job!

Red - Wow, you're really rolling right along with those challenges! Good luck with your new challenge too! Sounds like a good non-food related challenge!

Well, I was busy the past few days, as well as in competition withDH and #1 son for computer time. I messed up the no beer challenge and used up 2 pauses on the walking challenge and that leaves me on day 6 for walking and start over for no beer. I don't expect any activities from here on in to get in the way of walking, as long as I don't forget. I dunno about the beer, but we'll keep trying.
I never got to the doctor last week because my ob-gyn is in a different health network than my general practitioner and I couldn't get them to release the lab results. I have to work on that tomorrow for my rescheduled appt on Wednesday. What a pain. :p
Jolly and Red, I can combine your issues together to create my own. I have lots of dreams that I don't act on, and the main reason is my huge mess,especially in my room (where I throw all the other messes when people come over) I feel like I can't start any new projects until I get the upper hand on the mess. And I've been saying that for years. Maybe I'll add a mess challenge and an act on my dreams challenge. I'll sleep on it. See you tomorrow!!

Good morning all. They really need a smiley that pants and sweats. I could use that this morning. I just did my 3 miles for the day. I walked one block at mile 2, then walked the last 3 blocks :(. I was only going to walk one block before the last hill, but my hip locked up when I walked. Which means I need to go get new shoes!

Nothing else much to report. Met both challenges for the day. Sweated off a few extra pounds working on my dresser. Made it back to work for the first day without killing anyone. I don't think. There is an hour or so in there I can't remember . . .
