Hello everyone. Had a few minutes between cleaning and laundry so thought I would pop on and let you know how wonderful the POW WOW was. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to go back Saturday. The dancing was really a sight to see. They start off with the Grand Entry and that is where all the dancers form a line and dance in to the pavillion. They just kept coming and coming.......Then they have the competitions. Things are broken up into different categories. There are the "Tiny Tots", Then the "Juniors", the "Golden Age" and the "Adults". Each one of these categories are broken into three different classes for the women, "Fancy Shawls", "Jingles", and "Traditional". For the men it is "Fancy", "Grass", and "Traditional. Each one of these classes are a different dress and a different dance.
We ended up being there to enjoy the buffalo BBQ. They cook it in big pits underground. Don't know how much they did, but it had to be a lot. They served this with bbq'd beans, potato salad, and macaroni salad. I think I picked the lesser of the three evils.....I went with the beans. (I know they weren't legal, but...it kept me away from the potato and macaroni salads!)
Friday was much worse......I ended up eating an Indian Taco!! Oh.....was it ever good. It is Indian Fry Bread with chili, cheese, onion, lettuce and tomato served on top. And hot sauce for me!! I started out just eating the goodies off the bread....but I caved!! So eating this weekend wasn't totally legal, but I didn't go hog wild either. Today has been totally OP.
Here are a few replies for the time being.....
Rosalie-- Who needs to work anyhow??? lol. I figured the beets couldn't really be too bad. I only ate two small ones. When it is really hot out as it has been the last few weeks, I like to get up early and get my exercise in while it is still cool out. Especially the walking.....those hills are hard to do when you are sweating like a pig, and huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf. But It did feel really good to sleep in that late.
BOB-- The ceremonies were awesome. I have never seen so much pride, color and enthusiasm. These people danced there hearts out. The Grand Entry was really something to see. Dh estimated around 250-300 dancers. Then there were the Drummers and Singers. If you ever get a chance to go see one....it is well worth it.
Sef-- The Pow Wow was fantastic! We enjoyed it so much we went back on Saturday.
Melf-- Enjoy your weekend with your Mom, and the BBQ for your DN.
Fillise--Shopping.....one of my favorite things to do!! Have fun, and hope you find lots of real bargains.
Keng-- Usually during the summer I get up at 5. I like to get my exercise in before it gets hot. Your walk with hubby and dd sounds like a wonderful everning. As they say.....the best things in life are free!
Monet-- Sounds like a nice day.....hope you can find a good book to read and just relax.
Pancho-- Thanks for sharing the recipe. It sure does look good! I am printing it off to give it a try. Thanks again.......WTG on getting to the gym. It does make you feel better doesn't it. I hate it when I miss a day other than my scheduled two day offs. I always seem ready for them!!
Well, ladies.....that's it for now.
