i had the surgery not only because i was near death [really... a 5 week hospital stay plus 3 weeks in a nursing home learning how to walk again. it was awful!!], but also because i don't want to regain the weight!!

Real name: Jessica Goddess is more of a title. (Here's my 2008 update... was I always on the first page?)Was I always #3?
Geographical Location: Beautiful Southern California (transplanted from the Midwest)
Age: 26 Now, I'm 28And now I am 32.And now I am 36.
Marital Status: I have a wonderful significant other whom I share my abode with. You may call him CB (the Cute Boyfriend)Still together and going strong.
Children/Ages: ZERO! woo hoo! Still zero! One! (And planned, even!)
Occupation: My banausic occupation is a graphic designer/assistant but I'm going to film school. Still in film school but now I train political campaigns on database software. Now I am the VP of that software company and finishing up my creative writing degree at UCSDI write fiction and work in technical outreach for a university.
Pets: One fabulous 7 year old Husky Shepard Mix and I am fostering one 3 year old male husky.... my house has lots of hair. I adopted the male husky- his name is Keiko and he's a handful. My oldest husky is 14 now and Keiko is 8 -- and yes, still a handful.Emo passed away in 2010 and Keiko is now 14 and HATES the baby.
Hobbies/Interests: Dancing. Art. Books. And of course, movies.
Height: 5'9" (or there abouts)
Eye/Hair Color: I have beautiful bright blue eyes... my hair color changes with my mood. Right now it's a glossy black. And then it went to a bright crayola orange, then a strawberry blonde and now it's reddish. Red but very short. Still red. Still short.
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: August 2002 Wow, it's been 6 years. It's been ten years!
Starting weight: 274.5 (this is the last time I was on a scale, I don't own a scale so I'm not sure what it actually is) And then I went down to 249 and now I'm back up to 270
Present weight: Unknown 270 This year (2008), I am at 225. I am 214, today.
Goal weight: My first goal is 180. Still not there in 2008 but only 45 pounds away.Still not there. Will I ever be there?! Yes, of course.
Biggest Hurdle to Overcome in Weightloss: Binging and eating due to boredom. I think my biggest hurdle is understanding that no matter how active I am, the thing that matters most is what I put in my mouth. I have yet to even comprehend my biggest hurdle... but I am getting better at whatever it is!Time management is my biggest hurdle. Finding time to exercise, plan meals, baby, boyfriend, friends, and me!
Following any specific plan: I'm trying to be very healthy and getting enough fruit and veggies while eliminating red meat and over-processed food. I'm "eye-balling" under 1800 calories. This did not work for me. I joined weightwatchers and that has helped immensely! Hodgepodge. I go to weightwatchers for the support and I love it. I have always exercised but now I make sure to fit it in more often.
What is different this time around: I have SUCH a different mindset. I've had some sort of bizarre awakening that this is what I want and how much better I would feel without this weight. I always knew I was stunning and beautiful and I resent words like, "such a pretty face," but now I want to lose weight. I think before, I wanted to lose weight but I didn't want to try. I also am the happiest I've ever been which helps lead to positive behavior. I am still amazingly happy but I have realized that this isn't an overnight process for me (duh!) and it still shocks me!Still happy. I have long realized that I am on my own timeframe and this helps me when I want to give up.

Hobbies/Interests: Don't really have a lot of these, Travelling, Reading and working at making exercising my hobby.
Height: 5'6"
Eye/Hair Color: Hazel/Brunette
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: May 2004, this time
Starting Weight: around 350 (5 years ago was at 364)
Present Weight: 345
Goal Weight: 200 (my lowest remembered weight was in high school at 260 wearing a size 20, I am not sure what a reasonable goal weight would be so I have chosen 200)
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: Being discouraged by plateaus and losing motivation. Having PCOS doesn't help either.
Following any specific plan: I find I do better on my own plan. I am watching my carbs, specifically sugars and refined starches. I am also watching my fat and calorie intake as well and trying to avoid processed foods. South Beach diet is a big influence on my current diet.
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: Generally, I've jumped right in changing eerything at once. This time, I started slowly, changing my diet slightly, then adding in exercise in, then changing my diet a bit more. I have also adjusted my attitude and I have a positive outlook.
Anything else you would like to share with us: We can do this!
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: 1971, most current installment November 1, 2005
Starting Weight: 394 lbs.
Present Weight: 368 lbs.
Goal Weight: 145 lbs.
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: Binging, compulsive and impulsive eating.
Following any specific plan: Lower carb (not as extreme as Atkins). Insulin resistant, so I'm following a modified diabetic diet. Cutting out white flour and sugar.
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: Staying home is allowing me to concentrate on my health as my full time job. Health has deteriorated to the point of "hitting rock bottom" to put it in addiction terms.
Anything else you would like to share with us: My husband is diabetic, so he should be following the same WOE as I am. He is doing alot better than before he was diagnosed, but he's not as committed to making major changes. It makes it difficult to eliminate some of my worst trigger foods because he is bringing them home for himself.
I have been lurking on the 3FC boards for a few weeks now and have been so impressed by the knowledge of the members and inspired by so many of your stories! I usually prefer to lurk, but I think that this time around I should seek some more active support.
First name: Heather
Geographical location: near Chicago
Age: 39
Marital Status: married
Children/Ages: none
Occupation: College Professor (school starts next week and I am concerned that the new habits I am trying to lose will fall away in the chaos of the term).
Pets: 2 pugs! Othello (5 years) and Hamlet (5 months). They are like our children.
Hobbies/Interests: these days it is surfing the internet on groups like this! Used to be reading. I love to cook and am trying to learn new approaches. Maybe someday I can say something more active.
Height: 5'5"
Eye/Hair Color: brown or hazel, depending...
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: July 15 or so.
Starting Weight: 295 by my scale, but probably over 300 by my doctors.
Present Weight: 275 (by my scale. Let's use those numbers for now!)
Goal Weight: 250 (mini goal. I haven't set a long term weight goal)
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: eating from boredom, eating from stress, not planning what to eat, not maintaining exercise!
Following any specific plan: counting calories and basically trying to balance fat/carb/protein and get enough veggies and fruits. For now I am tracking everything in nutridiary.com -- I really love it right now, but may someday feel a slave to it. Can't worry about that yet. I've also started to exercise (walking) and hope to add some weights at some point soon. (one thing at a time)
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: As I see 40 looming on the horizon, I realize that my weight has a huge negative impact on so many things in my life. I've been able to get by to some extent riding on youth, but that's not gonna last. I want to be able to sleep comfortably, and just... stand... without having to push myself up. I want to have the energy that I hear the maintainers talk about. I want to enjoy my life, and I have decided that it's worth the sacrifice of eating whatever I want and just lazing around to have these other things. In short, I think my attitude is different this time: it's about being healthy for life. That's made losing 20 pounds less difficult than it has been in the past -- I really feel like I know WHY I'm passing up the doughnuts and the popcorn, etc. But I also know that I need to be able to keep going past the plateaus and the dips in motivation. That's why I'm here.
Anything else you would like to share with us: Wow. I think I just wrote a book, so probably not!
Hobbies/Interests: TV watching, home renovation and re-decorating and reading.
Height:5'8"
Eye/Hair Color: Dark Brown for both
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: December 12, 2006
Starting Weight:262
Present Weight: 262
Goal Weight:150
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: Learning how to relax without food and very very slow metabolism
Following any specific plan: Southbeach
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I'm realistic. There are no miracle diets. I will have to follow the eating plan closely, exercise daily and expect the scales to move slowly.

Hobbies/Interests: Reading, Movies (should be walking, hiking, the gym LOL)
Height: 5'7
Eye/Hair Color: Green eyes, dark brown hair
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey:
Starting Weight: 317
Present Weight: 311
Goal Weight: I'd like to say 150, but I'll be happy with 180. ****, I'd be happy with 280 at this point!
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: FEAR!!!!! That FIRST step. I get so weirdly overcome with FEAR, fear of failing, feat of succeeding, fear of no longer being 'invisible' which is pretty hard for a 300lb woman, fear of having to commit to this forever, fear of never having 'fun' again, fear of having it consume my life. I've just come to realize that there isn't always a "shoe dropping" moment, something things just don't become clearly focused and easy! sometimes you just have to DO IT and get thru it, and KNOW you're worth it and deserve life!
Following any specific plan: Common sense - no fast food cheeseburgers, cut out the diet coke, eat some veggies, get off your bum and exercise, smaller portions.
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: As I mentioned before, sometimes you have to "fake it til you make it". I'm trying to look at it as a task that needs doing -- no one LIKES to scrub the toilet, but there ya go you DO it many times a week! it NEEDS to be done so you DO IT.
Anything else you would like to share with us: I've NEVER, if i'm completely HONEST, given weight lost my EVERYTHING. I've always had it in the back of my mind "Adrian loves me... i have tons of friends...so what if I fail? nothing will change!" Except that now i'm 40, my grandfather died of heart disease, i'm SO inactive it's embarassing, and my knees sound like Rice Krispies when I do move! So I'd rather not be DEAD in 5 years, I'd rather have a lot less to carry around
Hello all-- I have been posting on the forum for about a week now but I thought I would do the formal intro since I originally skipped that part and just jumped right into the postings... so here is Me:

Starting Weight: 281
Present Weight: 280

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightless: Making time for myself. I am very busy and any exercise has been put on the back burner for way too long.
Following any specific plan: Trying to eat right, smaller portions. No specific diet right now. Increased exercise and drinking more water.
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: My knees started hurting recently and I know it is from the weight. I am not getting any younger and I don't want to start having a bunch of health problems. I want to be able to be there for my kids. I want to feel good about myself again.
Anything else you would like to share with us: I volunteer as a referee for a local volleyball club. That means I have to be up on a stand, by the net as I referee. Talk about motivation. It would be nicer to be up there without thinking about how fat I look!
Hobbies/Interests: reading, shopping (I LOVE clothes and shoes)
Height: 5'4''
Eye/Hair Color: brown/brown
Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: 6/5/07--this time around, anyway
Starting Weight: 245
Present Weight: 243
Goal Weight: 140
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: sticking w/ making healthy food choices and working out....once one part starts to slide, the other part does as well.
Following any specific plan: no--making healthy food choices, drinking lots of water
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: 2 years ago I lost almost 100 lbs. I felt fantastic! I looked fantastic! Then life happened (I had surgery and my dad died) and I stopped trying. I know I can do this. I will do it and keep the weight off this time! I am also reaching out for more support this time around.
Hi, I'm new here...just joined yesterday and started my diet yesterday also. This site is actually the reason I finally convinced myself to get back on track.
First name: Amanda

Marital Status:Single. Never expected to be, thought I'd do the 'normal' husband+kids thing but it just never happened. Now too fond of my own company!
Children/Ages:
Occupation: Priest (pastor)
Pets:5 dogs. All nearly 13 and going strong! Lost the first one, a black lab. at age 11 at Christmas 2006. Still miss her.

Starting Weight:242
Present Weight:20702/09 update 211
Goal Weight:135. Face gets haggard any lower.
Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss:Maintenance. I've twice in my life lost significant amounts - in the 1980s down to 114, in the 2002-2004 campaign down to 136 from 242 - but I always bounce right back up like a fast-serve tennis ball.
Following any specific plan: Calorie Counting
What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: Nothing much, it's not the losing it's the staying lost that I have failed at. This time trying to record even weightgains in my online tracker; trying not to be afraid to have slightly off days (just by a few hundred calories, perhaps) to practise getting right back on again. I'm kind of practising maintenance techniques as I go.
Anything else you would like to share with us: I have a job interview in early September, and if I could manage 4lbs more off (a UK stone), I'd feel more confident. This could be my last move before I retire, so it's a biggy! I want to head into that getting fitter. Didn't lose the weight. DID get the job. Gained 18lbs. Lost 12
