Clyde, Mom has had the trach since January of 92. Metal, with a separate insert part with a speaking valve. She can't have the plastic ones, they're just too bulky and don't fit right. Not the ideal situation, but it was get a permanant trach or die so we deal with it! She inhaled a thread while we were on our quilting vacation, couldn't stop coughing until she could get it back out again. Nothing like a Mom who can get hair balls!

Rainbow, I got your back! Prayers and wonderful, hopeful thoughts coming your way!

Work is in transition. Which is a polite way of saying keep your head down, don't look anybody in the eye, keep on keeping on until further announcements are made. That's a really depressing way to spend the day! Have to go find something positive and uplifting to do, otherwise a normal workday seems to take about 36 hours. So while I'm off hunting for opportunities and busy work, you all have a great and fantastic day!

Hi guys! I have been avoiding you because I went on a 4-day eating binge. It is over now and I have an extra 5 pounds to show for it. Workouts have been good, as usual.

I am 43 years old, and I stay home with my 5 1/2 year old daughter and 4 year old son. Before kids I worked for a large beverage company headquartered in Atlanta. I was very career driven and never in a million years expected to end up a homemaker.

I have yo-yo dieted for my entire adult life. I have always enjoyed working out, but I have also always had issues with binge eating. I got into the best shape of my life right around when I turned 40. I never liked to run, but I wasn't getting the results I wanted from walking. I did the couch to 5k program and never looked back. Then I had some injuries and I have had to really scale the running back.

Then last year, despite working out almost daily, I fell back into bad eating habits and gained back almost everything I had lost. I started journalling food again in January and have lost about 15 pounds so far. I would love to learn to eat like a normal person, ie - only eat when I am hungry and stop when I get full. I hope I can get to that point someday because it always seems like I am on the way up or on the way down. It's exhausting.

I love TBL - I heard this today: Cry on 3. Cry on 3. 1-2-3 CRY! LOL

I hope you're all having a great day!

She will either give up or she will listen to old mom and pace herself. Why is it mom never knows anything lol.

Ward
Please don't avoid us. Each of us needs the support we find here. None of us go through life with each day being perfect. Today is a new day. Time to get back on the wagon and go in the right direction. Nice to have you back.

Kappy
I hate days that go on forever. Hope you find something to do that give you a bit of a chuckle.

Kappy, Does your company have downsizing fears or something? What an awful way to spend your day. Good luck finding busy work and I hope you don't get a stiff neck from all that looking down.

Ward, I know exactly what you're saying about either being on the way up or on the way down. I lived just like that for 28 years and it is terribly exhausting. I hope you can find your "small" changes or whatever it will take to find a comfortable weight and just stay there. Like Rennie said, don't avoid us. If you had come on and asked for help earlier maybe someone would have said just the right thing to stop the binge sooner. Some of the ladies here give remarkably good advice that makes me think, "why didn't I think of that?" You have a good day now.

Hi girls.

Just got back from shopping with hubs. He starts a new job Monday and needed to get 2 new suits. So off we went to the mall. He got 2 nice ones in Penney's. He's off now until Monday.

My youngest was born with a laryngeal cleft and had the trach from birth. She had 3 repairs done on the cleft with no success and then we went to Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia. It was there that they were able to the repair and they closed the trach when she was 6. That is a wonderful hospital they do great work there. She had a g-tube as well and she got that out when she was 7. She is doing well but has other issues that she has to deal with. She's a very happy child and is growing like crazy.

Kappy sounds like your mum is doing well to have the trach that long. It used to drive me crazy the equipment we had to carry with us everywhere we went.

Biggest Loser last night enough of the crying guys. I think Ali looks great and I'm hoping the 2 girls make it to the end. Mark doesn't have much more to lose so he could fall below the yellow line next week. I think Roger will make it to the finale.

Diane the baseball last night grrr. There's a lot more games to go. Don't know about tonight's game Wellemyer might do OK. We need hits and runs.

Rainbow I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Ward don't avoid us even if you're having a hard time.

Rennie tennis lessons fun.

I need to go haven't got anything done yet today.

Hello everyone,

There is hope today that we might be able to enjoy some spring weather. I love the way it smells a nice spring day. I was actually inspired to take my dog on a walk.

Rennie - my daughter also plays tennis - I played with her last summer and I need lessons!!! I am hoping I will be better this summer because I hope to lose more weight - I was impressed with your tracker - and your weight loss - any advice?

Ward - I was on Spring break for 14 days and I came home and realized I was up about 5 lbs. - I thought I did better then that but I am working hard this week to get it back off and my goal is to be back where I was by Friday when I weigh myself. So do not get down - get back on it - you can do it.

Well, off to pick up kids from school.

Let me add my 2 cents, Ward. Keep posting and talking to us. I haven't been doing well with weight loss these past few months, partially due to being sick but also because I really got off track and it is hard to get back on. No excuses. I'm just faking it until I make it... again. Stay with us!

Clyde: That's really good news about your husband's new job. I know that it has been a long road for you guys, so hope this will be great for you! And, with baseball, we have lots of games to go. Who knows what will happen next!??

Kappy: Work is hard enough when things are going well. I hope it turns around for you soon.

So, I went walking at lunch with my friend. We saw a teenage girl get handcuffed and put in the back of a police car. That really freaked me out. I don't know what happened, but she was put in there. It kind of floored me that she showed absolutely no emotion. I would think that if you are getting arrested or whatever, wouldn't you be freaking out, just a little?? Nope, no tears, no emotions, nothing said. I can't imagine getting a phone call like that either. "Your son/daughter has been arrested." OMG! I have enough trouble if I hear that they have acted up at school (which doesn't happen often at all). Just let me stay in my very sheltered life!!

Back to work....

4mykids3

Hi again. Advice. You know so many things work for different people. So my way is sure not the only way. I am on what I call the " Rennie plan " lol. I stay within general ranges for myself 1200 to 1400 calories, 30 to 35 grams of fat, 180 to 210 carbs. ( All of this was broken down from what is allowed on a 2000 calorie diet. The doc, dietitian/nutritionist said those were great numbers for ME. Doesn't mean they would be great numbers for anyone else. I eat the required amounts of the four basic food groups a day ( ok, so sometimes I only get 3 or 4 of the bread/cereal group in instead of the 6 we are required ) I admit it. I don't do without a thing but I do know if I have a yummy today ( mountain dew or m&m's for example ) I have to wait until tomorrow to have another yummy AND if I don't have the left over calories, carbs and fat to cover that yummmy I can't have it. Believe me when I plan out my tomorrow menu tonight I will plan my yummmy. Can't do without my caffeine free mountain dew a couple of times a week lol. Oh ya, I use fit day and plan out my tomorrow menu tonight. This does take time because I think about what I want to have. I find doing this no different than taking out meat from the freezer for dinner tomorrow which I always did.

I do walking/aerobic videos and resistance training. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I do at least two 3 miles walking/aerobic videos a day and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday i also do about 40 Min's of resistance training. Tuesday and Thursday I do at least 8 miles of walking/aerobic videos. I really try to do my 1 mile at a time walking/aerobic video marathon on Tuesday or Thursday lol and I try to get in 10 miles. None of this is written in stone 9 times out of 10 I do this but if the knee or the hip is hurting I might slack off a bit and do less or just not do everything as intense as I do when I am not hurting. I think last month I averaged 2 hours a day.

For me the big thing is planning. I know what I need to do and I do it. The way I eat, the way I exercise is just another thing on my to do list for the day and I don't go to bed until that to do list is done.

There are a few in here that put me to shame with the amount of exercise they do. I have no idea where they get the energy. Lovn is one that just lovesssssssssss to walk lol.

More personals later, have to get my video done lol.

Clyde, Congrats from me too on hubby's new job. I can't help but think you must be one very strong woman. I'm glad to hear you found a wonderful hospital to help your daughter. God's blessings your way.

Diane, I too, feel so shelter and much blessed here in my little town. My children are known by their first names by everyone from the librarian to the post lady. We have maybe one teen arrest a year and it's usually underage drinking or smashing mail boxes. When you look around and see how some children are being or rather not being raised it's a wonder any of them can show emotion! I'm glad you were able to get a walk in and with a friend, even better.

Rennie, I'm kind of getting into yoga now. Not that I'll give up my walking, but the yoga's kind of cool and I can feel a difference in my upper body strength.

4mykids, It was absolutely beautiful in WI yesterday. I got in a 4 mile walk with my friend and for the first time we met a lot of other people out walking and running too.

Today I do not have to work. I got my housework and laundry done yesterday. DD doesn't have to be at dance until 3:30. What to do???? I'll probably surf a lot of 3FC. I rarely get out of 2 threads and then maybe I'll spend some time with my mother. I haven't since Easter.

Clyde: You are awesome! Look at you drop that weight! Just another 2 pounds and you're in onederland! How cool. Big celebration time for you!
Oh... and congrats on the game. I had a feeling that the Rockies would lose that one. Hopefully they can get the last one!

I have a test to take at work today. Oh joy. I will need to study a little bit this morning and at lunch, before I take it in the afternoon. So, I'm sure that will be fun.

Have a good day everyone!

Greetings all!

Clyde, congrats to hubby and the new job! Mom doesn't have any equipment with her trach. We got lucky there. For those of you who don't know (I didn't!), your vocal cords determine if you are breathing (open) or talking (closed & vibrating). Mom has paralyzed vocal cords. Meaning they never really open, for her it was the equivilent of breathing through a cocktail straw. The trach is below her voicebox, a permanent direct path to her lungs. Good news/bad news. She can breathe now, but can't exercise. We can open our mouths if we need more air, her mouth/nose do not contribute to what's going to her lungs. She also can't use hot tubs, swimming pools, is to completely stay off boats and water. Showering is a bit of a game too. Some people have to take extra equipment with them to help their lungs and breathing. We're lucky, we don't have that issue. Yet.

Dian -- the teenager with no reaction to being arrested. At the rink they used to have a payphone. Parents bring the siblings in, visit with their adult friends and the kids are running around doing whatever the heck they want. No rules, no manners, rude, out of control beasts. Did you know 911 works if you use a coin or not? The darlin' pups were playing on the phone. After so many calls in one day/time period, the cops would come anyway to see what was going on. HOW DARE THEY INTIMIDATE THE CHILDREN LIKE THAT! Who did they think they were dealing with, hoodlums?! No respect, no reinforcement of the rules, we're going to have a very interesting future in this country!

Rennie -- on your cardio days try adding in intervals. Something to shake up the routine. Maybe only one day a week, warm up for 5 minutes, increase the intensity for 5, slow down for 2, more intensity than the first time, slow down for 2 again, keep it up for about 30-45 minutes. If you have a way to measure your heart rate it's amazing how fast you can adjust to doing it and how hard it can be to get your heart rate up higher each time. You can do it in 3 minutes increments, but then only slow down for 1 minute. That is much harder. Anything to break up the usual and throw your body a curve.

The job -- they're talking offering early retirement and layoffs. They supposedly want to lose between 1.4-2.6K. Only in some groups, others are supposedly fine. The problem is some groups have already started handing out 60 day letters (get a new job in 60 days or be laid off), they didn't even ask for volunteers to retire first. So it's kinda hard to figure out exactly what the overall company attitude is. The other problem is we just went through a major reorganization on 3/5. The group I was supporting went in literally 6 different directions. So who do I support now? No idea. My "new" overall organization is nationwide. Am I responsible for all of them? Some? One subset? No idea. Meanwhile the person who is supposed to be telling me what the expectations for the year are keeps asking me to tell him! Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Guess I'm going to go clean out some vacated cubes for now. At least I can results for the day's activities that way!

Hope you all have a fantastic day. Have fun!

Some of the videos I do have interval training in them. My lungs don't handle it to well but I do as much as I can of them.

I am doing better on the yoga now. I don't fall over as much lol.

Glad hubby got a new job. You know we don't realize how fortunate we are in our lives until we hear of others with worse problems. Hope thing go well for your daughter.

Kappy, Good job vibes comin' your way.

Rennie, Does Leslie Sansone have a yoga dvd too or do you like another for your Yoga. I've been using Total Circuit training with Alan Harris and whatever I can get at the library. I just bought 2 Rodney Yee dvds. I've done each one just once. I like them both even though they are very different. One moves through the poses very quickly while the other moves more slow and controlled. Like I think of traditional yoga, but what does a hobunk from small town WI know about yoga? lol

Thanks very much for your support and what you guys said makes a lot of sense. It's just that binge eating is a very shameful behavior for me, and it's something I do in secret. It is hard to me to talk about it even here, where no one knows me. I hope being more open about it will help me conquer it.

I have had great workouts all week - I think I am becoming addicted to spinning. Today I cut the grass for the first time this spring. Well, the weeds I should say. It was chilly and misting rain, but it needed to be done today while both kids were in school.

Saturday we are leaving for Disney World so I am in full panic packing mode. I am sure I will be eating lots of stuff, but we'll be doing tons of walking and swimming so I am not going to stress over it. It's the kids' first time and I know they are going to love it!

Hope you all are having a great day!
