This question is for glory and robin and off topic..lol...
I have been calorie counting for the last 3 weeks or so and I find it very easy and kinda fun. I am getting in about 1400-1600 a day and working out 5 days/wk, missing it up from basketball to pilates. I am actually enjoying weight loss this time around...
My question is, how steady was your weight loss in terms of numbers? I mean was it, 2-5 pounds per week? I'm sure it varied, but I am just looking for a general estimation and I do know that everyone is different and all of that...just wondering?
there's a picture of my weight loss chart in the after pics linked in my sig. Typing from my phone or I would post a direct link. It was pretty steady 1 - 2 lbs a week, couple of 3 lb weeks, couple of 0 weeks. Never any 5 lb or "biggest loser-style" weeks, but I was very pleased at my rate of loss
I know I'm coming to this thread late, but I want throw out a thought about the word jealousy, which I've seen used a lot. Jealousy and envy are negative things. They're about fear, or insecurity, or pettiness. When we say we're jealous, it's implied that we resent the other person for what they do or might have. But I believe that for a lot of us, when we talk about being jealous of someone's loss, that's not really what we mean.
I don't think there's a word in English to mean "benign envy", where you're totally thrilled for your friend who's taking a trip to somewhere fabulous, and you wish you could do the same. Or, in this case, really genuinely pleased for a big loser, but kicking yourself for not having achieved the same. You don't begrudge the other person their thing/achievement, you just wish you had it too.
I just want to throw this out because I find it helpful to ask myself, "Am I really jealous? Do I really resent her? If so, why?" It may not help solve things, but I've discovered that it can really help to figure out why you're feeling that way. Sometimes just figuring it out is a pretty big step to fixing the negative emotion.
Robin - I thought that at "5 foot nuthin'" you probably do not need very many calories. I was right about that!
Oh yeah. At 5 foot nuthin', 45 years of age, post menopausal, and a formerly morbidly obese person - yup, it doesn't take many calories for this body to function properly. Which is why I really have to be careful and eat highly nutritious and satisfying foods.

My weight loss was very steady in that I lost every week with the exception of 2, no gain, I stayed the same and it was totally my doing. The part that wasn't steady was the amount of the losses each week. It varied greatly, anywhere from 1/2 pound to 5 lbs. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but now that I think of it, I may have even had a 6 lb loss in there. Not positive.
I'm glad you're having fun counting as you're losing. I personally had an absolute BLAST. I LOVED the whole experience. I LOVED being in control of my food and therefore my body. I LOVED knowing that I was GOING TO BE A HEALTHY, FIT & TRIM person. It was sooo cool. It really was one of the best years of my life.
