Default YOAD - February 08 Chatter

Wow....it is February 08 and time to start a new thread~! Happy Super Bowl Sunday to everyone! Hope you planned it well.

I am not really into Football but I know some of you are into it. Well, I met with a Nutrition Manager yesterday at the gym and she is very excitied to have a YOAD participant! Principles are very similiar as YOAD....natural as possible.

Hi everyone! Hope y'all are having a great Sunday. My kid is sick (again???) so I'm home with him while DH is at a Superbowl party. It's nice - he needs some down time with his buddies, and I'm not tempted by all that garbage party food. I took two weeks off YOAD to do the first two weeks of the Beck Diet Solution (cognitive behavioral therapy, to make dieting easier) and I started officially back up yesterday. Already down a pound! I know it's mostly water but I'll take it. Congratulations also to you, PA!

Thanks Diva!

Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Good afternoon Ladies!

Day 1 of c25k DONE! My quads are freaking killing me lol! I just ate a banana to try and help with the cramps. I did .5 mile of laps in the pool too and I tell ya, the treadmill was the easy part! OMG! I think the laps are harder because I have asthma, but hopefully I can build up to a complete mile. All and all feel proud and pretty good. It was a struggle doing both and I just kept saying to myself, YOU CAN DO THIS! and I did!

OH! MY YOAD book FINALLY got here today too! I can't wait to get into it but I have lots to do today first.

Hey gals!

Had to do a little YOU-turn after the Superbowl, but I'm right back on track. We didn't go anywhere, so the goodies were in my control, but I just ate a bit too much of everything! Luckily the leftovers were consumed by DH last night, so we are in the clear.

I got motivated to cook last night - I made a chicken/green chili, and the filling for stuffed peppers which we'll have tonight. I'm having the chili right now for lunch. I like when I cook!

Hi gals - hello from the frozen Northeast! This week is a killer for me at work, so I'm doing what I can just to get through. I have to be in to work at 7am every day this week, so I plan to parlay that into getting back into the gym habit. I have still been so lazy - I think it's a touch of season disorder - I just can't get my backside up early to go exercise!

But the days are getting noticeably longer and that's a good thing for me - I'm definitely "solar powered"!

I made Manhattan clam chowder this weekend that was pretty tasty - but I need to learn to make a bigger batch so that it will last longer!

Hope you are all doing well and are keeping warm!

Real Age tip of the day:

"Eat this and pounds will drop:
Trying to lose a few? Aren't we all. You’ll lose even more if you set out a plate of this before each meal: apple wedges.

Eating a bit of high-fiber fruit -- like a small apple or pear -- before each meal is a proven weight-loss booster.

Fruit Booster
You've seen those ads for weight-loss pills that promise to help you lose even more weight when you diet. It's possible that apple wedges could give those pills a run for the money. In a recent study where women were divided up into fruit-before-meals and no-fruit-before-meals groups, the fruit group lost more weight -- even though they all followed the same reduced-calorie diet. The key? Choosing fruit that's high in fiber but low in calories (read: high water content, like apples)."

Down 3 pounds this week and all from just adding more YOAD foods. The really cool thing is in order to continue to eat all this food....I have to keep my committment to the gym for Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.....I then walk on the treadmill on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays.....sometimes I will throw in a Sunday too. I did miss the gym today but will make it up tomorrow and then do Saturday so I will be back on track on Monday morning.
YAY!!!!!!

Hi guys!

Can I join you all? I *skimmed* YOAD in Oct and did SO well just based on the little blips I read. Then thanksgiving came and I've been off the wagon since. I have recently purchased the book and am reading it now. I am ready to make this change!

ETA: I'm wondering if it would be ok to ask you guys to post your daily intake of foods for a while just so I can see the typical YOAD food that people are eating?

Carrie.....just make sure you eat enough. I spent the past year trying to keep my calories under 1200 and yo yo'd like crazy. This year I am doing so much better and have increased my calories but with YOAD approved foods. Move....Move....Move. I workout at the YMCA on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on the days I don't I do the treadmill or water aerobics. I try to move everyday of the week. I usually will have a protein shake in the morning made with skim milk, 1/4 cup of cherries or some other type of fruit. I have either nuts or fruit for snacks between breakfast and lunch and then lunch and dinner. Lunch is usually either a salad with chicken or turkey or lean protein on whole wheat bread (9 grain bread) and a bowel of vegetable soup. Dinner is usually chicken or turkey meat, and vegetables. Try to stay away from the HFCS and artificial sweetners. Artificial sweetners have a tendency to make me crave sweets.

Happy Weekend gals!

Congrats Patti on hitting 50#! That's great news! Slow and steady wins the race!

And, congrats Kim on another 3#! You're doing great as well. The gym really helps, doesn't it?!?!?! Just out of curiosity, how many calories a day are you shooting for these days?

I was super busy at work this week - I was leading a week long "work out" meeting - a meeting where you focus on one area of your manufacturing process and try to eliminate unnecessary steps and processes and try to improve the total time it takes to do something. I had to be in to work at 7 each day, and never left before 5:30pm! So, we ended up eating out a lot this week - I was just too drained each day to even think about cooking.

Did you gals have a good Valentine's Day? DH bought me orange roses (I like orange!) and unfortunately gave me a small box of candy! I'm glad it was small, but I wish he hadn't done that. At least he ate most of them! We went out to dinner at one of our favorite places where I splurged and had the lamb shank.

So, since I've gotten in the habit of getting up at 6am the past week, I'm going to try to parlay that into getting up to go the gym this coming week. I have to be out of town Monday, but will hit it hard on Tuesday. My food intake has been ok, but not perfect, but I know getting to the gym will help me to keep my food on track more. I hate working out if I'm just going to undo it with food!

Ok, time to get dressed and moving today - you gals have a great one!

Hey Nikki and Carrie!

Please do join us - we could use some YOU:bies around here to help keep up the chatter!

If you are curious about results, I think that Patti has been the one of us who has been the most consistent with YOU since we all started. And she's lost 50! Kim has been on a roll lately and you can see by her ticker that she's doing great with this program.

The food part is easy once you get the hang of it, and the exercise is a must.

I've been struggling over the past 6 months with work travel, a wedding and honeymoon, and a new job - all of which has been an excuse for me not to stay focused. But I'm making a YOU:turn and getting myself back on track.

Welcome, and please ask us anything - it's a great refresher for us as well!
Cindy
