Default Point Nightmare

I know I just introduced myself in the previous thread, sorry to just jump in like this, but.....

I started counting points faithfully again this past Saturday. I had not yet used any of my flex points for the week. Tonight the kids and I were at Borders bookstore and as usual spent too much time looking at all the great books. It takes about 45 minutes for us to get back to the "farm" (we have cows that's it). Not wanting to feed the kids late I suggested we eat out. I KNOW what was I thinking! I was thinking that I had 14 points left for the day and all of my flex points so I would be fine.

The kids want to go to Red Robin. I grab my dining out guide...nope not in there. So I figure I will do a salad and be fine.

I messed up.

I had the Fajita Fiesta Pollo Salad. And NO I did not ask for the dressing on the side. Partly my fault, partly the 4 kids and 1 adult factor....okay all my fault

I come home and hit the internet searching for nutritional information on my points sabbotage, only to discover that there is NO information ANYWHERE!

How do I even estimate the points for this? Should I consider all my flex points gone just to be safe? Saturday seems so far away to be without even a few flex points

Really bummed

Heather

Hi Heather.

Been there, done that! All I did was write down everything I could remember being in the salad (dressing included) and try to come up with some sort of an idea as to how much of each thing that there was.... (I guess on the high side) - and then look up similar things , whether it be online or in your books....

Well - a chicken caesar from red robin is around 25 pts...(from dwlz). They don't seem to provide the information for the salad you ordered anywhere.

A chicken caesar is 25. Ugghhhh I know this had to be more than that. Crud. Okay I am off to try and calculate. I will let you know what I come up with.

Wish me luck!

Okay after looking in several places trying to compare salads I think I am going to go with the 25 points.

The salad was big but was mostly lettuce. There was black beans, red onions, corn, cheese, tortilla strips, chicken and that dang ranch salsa dressing.

It's the chicken and the dressing that are keeping me guessing. I think 25 points should be somewhere in the ballpark though. Shoot we could have gone to McD's and come out under that and with hot fries too.

Oh well tomorrow is another day.

I am not giving up. I want my sailor to come off that ship and be able to pick me up off the ground when he hugs me and not worry about throwing out his back. Actually I want him to be floored with what a hot mamma I really am

Here is a salsa ranch dressing you might use for comparison:

You might also want to add a tbsp of oil to your count (most chicken grilled in restaurants has a dousing). Also, when a restaurant dresses a salad, they usually use 4tbsp or more.

Hey - now you know! We ALLL have learning experiences.

Welcome Heather,

Been there, done that. I say, just move on. Count the day as over the top (maybe split your flex points, so you have some for the rest of the week or just toss it up as experience and learning and continue as normal).

One day over the top is just the one day. Start again the very next minute and don't scold yourself too much. We've all done it. I've noticed it isn't the "one" time that adds on, it's the "one" time day after day- and the "oh, what they hey" attitude that inevitably follows.

It's really frustrating when restaurants don't give nutrition info and some places find amazing ways to fatten up what should be a healthy choice.
