Unhappy I want to SCREAM!!

Sorry guys...
I've made another forum thread.

I'm very sad. You see I've started doing my weight watchers at home. I'm only on my fourth day and I've been doing it as best as I possibly can... and the scales haven't budged. I know it hasn't even been a week yet... and I'm being impatient... but it's making me sad and making me think that i'm doing something wrong. how long did it take before any of you guys started to see a difference?

I normally don't post on this forum, but I just wanted to step in and say that weight loss requires patience patience patience. The scale just doesn't move that fast! If you are following your plan, you should lose, but sometimes it takes a while to see it -- that's not just true at the beginning, but all the way along the journey.

Sometimes you will sit at one weight for a while and the next day the scale moves several pounds! It's not the thing you did the day before that moves it, but an accumulation of things coming together! (including water weight, which is another issue).

Take a look around this site and you will see many people dealing with this exact same issue, all along their journey. The scale just doesn't move as quickly as we want it too!

So, scream if you like, but know this is normal, and if you want to be successful you have to come to terms with that on at least some level!

If you were to go to Weight Watcher meetings, a lot of leaders would tell you NOT to weigh yourself at home. There are a few reasons for this:
1. You get a more "accurate" measurement of loss if you weigh only once a week. This is because your weight naturally fluctuates from day to day.
2. I think this is the bigger reason, but they say that if you weigh yourself at home and see that you have gained instead of lost, you might be discouraged from coming to the meeting and getting support. And trust me, if you gained, you need the support to stay on track

I wouldn't count day-to-day weigh-ins. Honestly, I weigh myself every day at home. I just like to see how what I eat/drink effects my weight and usually if I'm going in a downward direction it helps to motivate me. Of course, going up motivates me too! It makes me want to work harder at it. BUT, I don't "count" it until I go to my WW meeting and weigh in there. I never change my ticker unless I've weighed in at the meeting and the reason for that is the first reason I posted here. I just believe it is a more accurate way to track.

Good luck to you!

Give it more time. I fall into this trap, too!!! I have to resist the urge to weigh myself daily. On the days when I am up it is a struggle to be good. I have been weighing myself as soon as I awake. Somedays though I cant resist the urge to just go make my coffee immediately without stripping down to do the scale stuff. I have found that those are the days that I have an easier time staying in my points range. Dont be discouraged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on the weight loss!!! The scale is a funny thing. I too step on it every single morning. It really helps to see that it can make a difference if I have a splurge of a weekend or day and the scale goes up that quick. Keeps me in check. Good luck on attaining your final goal.

Like everything else, it really depends on the individual's own response to this, so do what works for you. Like buffalosister1, I find I am best motivated when I check myself every day. When I don't weigh myself that morning is when I feel like I can get away with something (cheat). And others feel just the opposite.

So seranab, only you know yourself. You will have to figure out what works for you--no one else can do that. My own way, first thing in the a.m., is to go to the john, wash up, strip down & weigh myself naked. I go to FitDay & enter that weight. BUT I don't change my ticker until that weight (if it is lower) is stable for a week.

If you find that's a good compromise between daily/weekly, try it. I hope it helps. More importantly, whatever you decide to do--I hope you find what works for you.

I only weigh myself once a week. It prevents me from getting dissappointed or obsessed.

I also weigh myself daily. It keeps me accountable for what I'm eating, particularly if I see a gain. I know for some people it makes them feel they've failed, so they binge, I'm opposite. I see a rise and behave myself, drink extra water, eat more fruit, etc.

I don't worry about going down every day. I expect it to go down about once a week, and usually on my WI day I have gone down. Usually only a pound per week though.

Don't be discouraged by a non-moving needle. Instead, be thankful that it isn't going up!
