Default Moved to new town..terrible grocery selections and quantity!!! HELP!!

I have just moved across the country to a small town after having a baby.I was doing fine until I decided to try WW again.I went to the Grocery store and OMG!!!Nothing was on the shelves!!!Then I tried again and it was better I admit BUT they had none of the stuff I want.No cheap diet coke(unless you would pay $6 for a case of diet) and A LOT of the stuff had no nutritional info on it.In fact most of it didn't unless it was a major item.I don't know what to do?WW doesn't even have an office here for meetings Im told.Is there anyone who just relies on the food companion?I only have an online one.I lost my other one in t he move. They only sell wonder bread and NO whole wheat english muffins etc.

Does anyone have this problem?I found just following the food companion I had hardly any points left at all.I would really like to do this.Any suggestions??People buy so much at once there is nothing left and Im afraid to go over.

Exactly how small is your small town? Sounds pretty tiny if the local grocery store only carries Wonder bread! :-) Hm...http://www.peapod.com partners with Netgrocer.com and will ship non-perishables to your house...maybe bread would fall in this category??

You can buy Kashi cereal products online at http://www.kashi.com. Their Kashi Good Friends cereal is only 1 pt per 3/4 cup!

If you have a big enough freezer (or even if you don't have a large freezer), you could make a special trip once a month to a larger town & stock up on those essential items that are low in points (frozen veggies, bread-which you *can* freeze well, meat, fish, etc). To help keep things "fresh" in the freezer, you could buy one of those vacuum sealers, which will keep frozen items good for longer period of time without freezer burn. I bought one awhile ago...it's called the "Food Saver" and I bet you could buy that online, too.

Whoa, I just looked at where you live! You're right, you're kinda stuck with the local store! Do you have any friends who might send you some non-perishable stuff? Can you make your own bread? (if they sell whole wheat flour ) Good luck. WW can be done with "regular" food, just takes more planning and creativity! Try the veggie soup for no/low points to fill you up.

Default Bad Grocery Store

Hi there -- see that you live in God's country in the Northwest Territory. (I was there in 1995... fabulous.) Now about your food selection situation: Can you make friends with the store manager? Can you ask him to try to get in a more diverse selection of food? I'm sure there's a call for it but no one ever thought to ask.

You could also write (email) the manufacturers of foods like Kraft (www.Kraft.com) to ship to your store. Get a campaign going. For great bread, go to www.naturalovens.com -- they will ship directly to you and you can buy in bulk, depending on the size of your freezer.

I don't know what the law is in Canada as far as nutritional info labelling, but you will most certainly lose weight if you rely solely on the points book... even though it's only averages, per se, it still works... Good luck.

Default Help

I suggest you make friends with your local grocer and see if they won't order the items you want. They will probably have to order a case. Try to choose an item that you want a case of or something others will want. Maybe you can get together with a neighbor and split a case. Ask around what others in town do for items you especially need and want. I'm sure it is expensive to buy food there because it probably has to be trucked or flown in. I bet there are people in town that have a solution to part of the problem. I bet if one person goes to town they bring back groceries for others or carpool once a month.

Also I would find out what day the food shipment comes in so you can get to the store when it is loaded with supplies. If any of your family comes for a visit be sure and give them a grocery list to bring with them.
