Let's Talk Fish ?

  • Can anyone tell me how I find out the point values of different types of fish ?

I have never cooked fish myself but would liketo give it a go.

Anyone know about Cat Fish ?

Or anyother low point fish recipes.

Stuff that isnt too fishy ?

    PLEASE ANY ADVICE
  • You'll find the white fish (Cod, Haddock, Tilapia) is pretty mild.
  • Thank you !!! How do I find out how fattening it is?
Where do I find nutritional Info ?

Sorry to be such a pest !
  • I use sole - no sure of the points though - I will try to find out for you.

Captain Highliner has some lovely prepared filets in a lemon pepper dressing that are 1 point per piece - I have one peice with some rice and broccoli for a nice supper.
  • pmoswife where are you located? If you are close to a good seafood market you can try Cobia (lemon fish) or Amberjack. I just started to eat fish b/c I always thought it was too fishy. Those 2 are pretty much the only ones I can eat. But again it is all going to depend on where you live as to what you can get. I found lots of fish nutritional info on CalorieKing.com.
  • There is usually nutritional info on the labels and most white fish is about 2 oz for 1 point.

There is also a nutritional section on this site as well as Calorie King and (I hope this isn't a competive site with 3FatChicks): www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ which is the USDA site.

    Hi

We had the USDA nutrition database programmed so that it gives point values for all 7,000 foods There is a category for fish, which I hope will help you out.

    Go to www.3fatchicks.com/food-calorie-counts/
  • Who or what is Captain Highliner ?
  • It is a name brand of frozen fish products - fillets, fish sticks pre-fab fish and chips. The breaded/battered items are not OP for me but the lemon pepper fillets of sole are not breaded so you can just bake them in the oven and they are quite good. They also carry a line of salmon done in a dill sauce which is reasonable in points as well - can't remember how many off the top of my head though.

You can get them in Canada but not sure if they are available in the U.S. You can get them at Costco, Loblaws, Loeb, Great Canadian Superstore.

I think the equivalent brand in the States would be Mortimer's.
  • Ive got the goods!
Ah fish! The food I manage to eat EVERY DAY! I absolutely love SALMON, CHILLEAN SEABASS, BLACK COD and ESCOLAR! They are to DIE FOR! Runners up include, Halibut & Swordfish!!
I also love those little shell fish such as SCALLOPS and SHRIMP and CALAMARI!(OH AND I LOVE EEL...I dont know if I consider that a fish, shell fish or what!) All scrumptious!! I have tons of recipies for these creatures that I come up with on the drop of a hat(whenever I want to have some)
Gime me a buzz if you want?!
  • Tilapia rules! It is usually the least expensive fish (per pound) here in the South, and I find it mild, flavorful and hard to ruin. Fire up the George Foreman grill, add a little ff cooking spray and some lemon pepper, and grill for 3-4 minutes. Yum! Tilapia filets cook very quickly. 4 oz raw = 110 cal, 2 g fat = 2 points.
  • My motto on fish

    Catch, Clean, Cook

I just miss living next to the ocean. There was a lot more variety than the trout, bass and perch with mercury restrictions (due to mining) in many of our local waters. I only fish out of small lakes that never had mining activity.

Just got my license for this year last weekend. It is a great way to spend a day.
