Red face Looking for Pear Recipes

I just picked lots and lots of pears from a neighbor's tree and am looking for some recipes to use them in. I am most interested in recipes for Pear Butter or Pear preserves, low fat or low points is better!!

www.homecanning.com

I just picked a few pounds today. I am going to core them out and see if they aren't too mushy. I'll probably just make pear sauce.

I lost alot of pears this year. I was out of town when they needed to be picked.

Red face

Well that's a real bummer. I actually got these from a house in the neighborhood that I walk by. another woman and I went there on Saturday and asked if we could have some and she said as many as we want! So, I now have over 100 pears in my kitchen!! I am not even sure what kind of pear it is! I don't think it is a D'Anjou or Bosc. They have a tart/sweet taste to them. Very good!
So, how do you make your pear sauce? Have you ever just peeled, cored, halved and canned the pears?
When you do your canning do you have a "canning machine" or how do you do yours? I don't have a pressure one or even a rack for putting and taking out of a water bath. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
Beth

I have not canned pears this year. Usually just peel, core and then do them in a light syrup.

use standard ball canning book recipe and usual boiling water canning technique. Did tomato sauce last night, doing some more tonight.

No need for pressure canning with pears, peaches, salsa and tomato sauce as long as you remember citric acid or lemon juice.

Check to make sure pears are not wormy first!
