Talking Fabulous 40's & Fit 50's......

This is Jen's post from page 6:

Sandy, have a great week I hope you get to relax and enjoy your time with Mike. Your garden sounds beautiful. Perennials are addicting, aren't they?

Dianne, wow you'll have a busy weekend! I love those family times. As Sandy said, hope Alana's medical tests are routine.

Es, my sympathies to you on having to work with that woman For the Cobb salad, I simply add up the points for the meats, cheese and egg, then the dressing, which I only dip in. Usually allow about 12 points, which isn't bad if I've planned for it.

Have to run....we're working the last two Saturdays in June because so many people put off purchasing their yearly vehicle stickers till the deadline but it's only a half day so it's not too bad.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!! to Bruce, Pete, Willie, Mike, and Maurice!

~Jen

************************************

Hi Girls

So glad the weekend is here. I have to run a few errands today. I'm taking Pete out to the chinese buffet for Father's Day this afternoon. Tomorrow they're charging double. They think they're slick. I'll have to drink alot of water tomorrow.

A woman I work with joined WW with her 26 yr. old daughter & her daughter lost 25 lbs. in two months. Is that cool or what. Stick to it & you lose. What I can't understand is when people say it's too much food. Why don't I feel that way. The atty. I work for joined 2 weeks ago & she thinks it's too much food & that she wouldn't lose. She lost 6 the first week & one the next & she's already discouraged. She thinks it's going to take too long. She has around 80 or more lbs. to lose. She was on LA weightloss & lost 45 lbs. in 2 yrs.! It got too expensvie so she decided to try WW for the 50th time.
She comes in with a shopping bag of food. It's so funny. The Points Police better not see her!

Well, my friends, let me jump in the shower & get ready to hit the stores which I know is going to be like a mad house. Lots of great sales for Father's Day.

Happy Father's Day to all the hubbies.

Love,
Es

Good morning

Es,
Too much food? no way It's easy to become discouraged if we expect instant results. This week has been not so good for me, but it's my own fault. After two weeks of substantial losses, I let the journalling slide; combined with working late hours and not planning enough....it's all contributed to my feeling out of control again. Enough of that! I'm planning the week's dinners today, so I won't have any excuses.
Hope your dinner was good yesterday.

Jess, Michael and the boys are coming over today, and Joey as well. We're having a bbq for Father's Day. It's too cold to swim, upper 60's and sunny yesterday, cloudy today.

Have a great day,
~Jen

Jen,
9 pounds. WoooHooo! That is great. :wtg: You are doing it girl!!!!
Glad you are enjoying the summer.
I agree with Linda about the pizza. That is life and life gets in the way at times and you just have to continue on after it is over. I have eaten to much pizza at times. You will be fine.
Yes and HAPPY FATHER's Day to Joe too.

Linda,
At least you knew it was the sodium and not fat. That'll come off fast.
Have fun at Disney and good luck with the surgery. We honeymooned at the Poconos. I love it there. We might got to Hershey Pa. while we are in Ohio.

Ruth,
I am so sorry about your dad. My dad acted so out of character when he went into the hospital. They called it the sundown syndrome. He said some awful things and had hallucinations. He saw people on the ceiling and told nurses that they had wild sisters (he didn't know them) It was scary and sad. He also reacted badly to the demerol. They realized they couldn't give it to him cause he was always worse when they did. He was fine when he went home. Although he was still a little snappy (out of character).
Great scores on your test.
Have fun with all those grandbabies.

Sandy,
I hope you are able to relax a little. Good luck with the car. We bought a 96' Camero. It is pretty cool. Britts will drive it to school and we get it all the other times. It has a T Bar.

Dianne,
That is right about being 9 down. That is great that you started back. CONGRATS to Justin on his birthday. 23 WOW!!!
You are going to be a party fool. That is a lot of celebrating.
Today is Father's Day and it also my mom and dad's 51st anniversary and tomorrow it is my sister's 24th anniversary.

Es,
Hug those babies for me. They sound so cute.
I do on-line and go to the meetings. I love it.

I am reading another book now called "Weight Loss Diaries" by Courtney Rubin.
Here is some information.

Book Description
From Shape magazine's popular "Weight-Loss Diary" columnist comes a hilarious, sometimes heartwrenching look at the daily struggle of dieting
In this frank and funny book, Courtney Rubin shares what she learned about dieting--and herself--in more than two years of chronicling her battle to keep food from consuming her life. As engaging as her famous column, The Weight-Loss Diaries is part memoir, part how-to, and always entertaining.

An honest and brave account of what it feels like, day in and day out, often year in and year out, to try to lose a significant amount of weight, The Weight-Loss Diaries is:

An unashamed tale of binges, fashion fiascos, setbacks, and ultimate success
A light-hearted, laugh-out-loud look at the most ridiculous excuses for ending or cheating on a diet
A no-holds-barred account of the author's dark days of flirting with eating disorders and constantly calculating and recalculating calories
With insight, humor, and courage, Rubin explores diet and food issues, as well as her self-sabotaging habits during dieting, in ways that everyone struggling with weight loss will find both instructive and inspiring.
Courtney Rubin has written for the New York Times, Marie Claire, Time, and other publications. For two years, she wrote the "Weight-Loss Diary" column for Shape magazine. Formerly a senior writer at Washingtonian magazine, Rubin is now a correspondent based in London for People.

I see a lot of myself in this book. I am really enjoying it.

We are going to Ohio this Wed. We have a wedding and a baby shower.
I love going there in the summer. It is so different than at Christmas time. We went up the last time in the summer in 2001. My BIL is going to watch my dad so my mom can go to the shower with us. She doesn't get out much.

I will try to stay in touch up in Ohio. Britts will have her lap top.

Good luck with your weigh-ins tomorrow.

TTYL,
Terri

Terri,
that book sounds good. I'll have to check it out. That will be so nice for you to see your folks in Ohio. Have a good trip. The Camaro sounds cool, I'd guess Brits loves it!

This morning's weigh in was not pretty.....up 1/4 lb. I knew it was coming, but am not going to let it get me down. I'm journalling, planning meals and focusing on water. I know I will have a better week and post a loss next Monday.

How's everyone doing? Let's hang in there, girls....we had such a good first week, we are on a roll

Good morning Ruth and Jen.

Jen,
You are so right. Don't let it get you down. You know what you did and you can fix it. You will lose it. When you do great and don't know why you gained then it is discouraging. Everytime I gained I knew what I could have done better. With me it was always to much sodium close to weigh-in. I stopped high sodium foods 2 days before weigh-in.

Ruth,
Try to relax a little. Good luck with school.

Brittany and I are going dress shopping for the wedding. I might have to get new shoes too. Damn!!!!

Have a good day everyone.

1/4 pound low-fat Swiss cheese, cut into thin strips
1 large tomato(es), diced
8 slices cooked crisp turkey bacon, crumbled

We renovated Cobb Salad by:

Swapping low-fat Swiss cheese for regular and using lean turkey bacon instead of pork.

Evening ladies! I've been a little busy these past few days and haven't had time to check in!

I'll try and get caught up quickly!

Someone wanted to know if I was buying a house in the Pocno's...I already have one. Milt (some Puerto Rican name, huh???) surprised me some 20 years ago with this house. Long story....I'll tell it one day. We try and get there as often as possible yearly. It's been awhile and we needed to make sure things were ok. I love my house. It's so neat and un-cluttered unlike the apartment here in Da Bronx!! On the dining room table there, the only thing in the middle of the table are some dried flowers. Here, I need a weeks notice if I want to eat on the table!!! It would take that long to clear it of all the magazines, old mail, food saver machine, fruit bowl, WW literature, and crap in general!!

Anyway my time on the at work is non-existant. has been in such a mood, that I don't dare get on line unless it's business related. So until he becomes "human" again, all my posts will be done from home.

I hope all the "fathers" had a great day yesterday.

Ruth - how's dad?

Terri - that salad is a keeper!

Sandy - how's the car hunting?

Es - too much food??? What world do they come from?? I'm always hunting for more points!

Dianne - Hi!

Jen - Hi! 1/4 lb is nothing. Like you said, don't give it a thought. I maintained, again. But I know this week I'll have a nice "little" loss!

Well I need to shower before Salem's Lot comes on. I read the book and saw the first movie. Gosh I'm just rambling on tonight!! I missed you guys!! See you all tomorrow!

Linda,
how awesome to have a second home..and in the Poconos, no less! That's so cool. I can identify with the clutter issue. Now that we're down to just Joe and I at home, I've been on a rampage, tossing things and trying to simplify. Life is hard enough as it is, without all the trappings and JUNK!!! Joe is a ratpack (has to do with growing up in a family of 9 kids, and they had nothing, so he saves everything)
I hope you get there often and get to relax.

Terri,
You ROCK!!! Thanks for the Cobb recipe. Now it's mindless to prepare, and much less points than I've been using.

later,
~Jen

Hi Girls,

I'm posting from work so this will be short. I gained this week. It's my fault so there's no excuse. I'll do better this week.

Be back later

Hi guys:

Hope you all had a good weekend and the guys had a happy father's day.

The weekend was good, but yesterday, was hard. I mentioned that I had to go with Alana for some medical tests - well, a couple of weeks ago, she had a gyn exam and it appears they found what they think is an abnormal cell so yesterday she went to have (can't think of the name of the first test) something ....scopy (where they just took a look), and a biopsy. She was pale and dizzy when she came out of the exam room and in a bit of pain. The tests are to rule out cervical cancer. I did my best to encourage her not to worry, that these tests (pap smears) are not fool proof, etc. because I know she takes her cue from me - we are so close. But, privately, I have a lump in my throat that doesn't go away. I know that whatever happens, we will deal with it, but I also know that if anything happened to her, I would be in a mental institution. Sorry, just venting my feelings right now - I'm sure everything will be fine. Thanks for listening.

Talk to you's soon.

Hugs,
Dianne

My friend, I am sorry that you & Alana are going through this. I'm sure it'll be fine. When it comes to our children we worry so much. I can't imagine something happening to David. I will pray for her. Times like this all we can do is Let Go Let God. I'm here for you Amiga.

Linda, I would kill for a house in the Poconos!! How cool is that!

Terri, I have to try that salad.

Jen, I just found out that my co-worker's sister was a size 14. She went on the SBD & she's down to a size 4!!! She never went past phase 1. She's afraid to. I'll stick with WW. I hate feeling deprived.

Hi Ruth

Zoe, stop by & say hi.

Till tomorrow.

Love,
Es

Dianne,
I am so sorry you are going through this. I know how close you two are. Like Britts and I. I am sure it will be ok. Britts had a tumor on her ovaries and we weren't sure if it was malignant or not and it was a scary time. She lost 1 ovary and her fallopian tube. Even though I had a feeling it would be ok I still had that fear. I will pray for Alana and your family. When it comes to our kids...

Es,
You will lose next week. Remember this is life. These things happen.

Linda,
That would be awesome to have a second home. I'd love to hear that story.

We are going to Ohio tomorrow. We will be gone until July 5th. I can't wait. We have a wedding and a baby shower. I will try to check in on Britt's laptop.

Luv ya,
Terri

Dianne,
My prayers are with you and Alana. Stay positive for her sake; she will look to you for strength. We're all rooting for a positive outcome.

Terri,
Have a safe trip and enjoy!

Es,
Don't let it get you down.....we have to stick with this!!

Dianne,

Please know that you and Alana are in my prayers. My step daughter has pre-cancerous cells, she has to go to the doctor every 3 or 4 months, but so far everything has been fine. Keep thinking positive and please keep us informed on how the test turn out.

Talk to everyone else later.
