If you have 50 or so pounds to lose, or are losing, this is the group for you! So jump on in and join, you'll be sure to get a warm welcome!
Well, last week was the quietest on record, I believe! Hope everyone is doing okay, stop in and say hi when you can!
Had a not-so-good weekend. Had a pretty bad auto accident Friday afternoon when a car pulled into my van on the highway. Pretty much totaled my van, but by a miracle, nobody was hurt. (Well, I bruised a toe, had broken glass in my hair, but that was all.) The officer was amazed, looking at the damage, that we were all okay.
Managed to stay OP this weekend, but will be on the lookout for post-stress eating! I'm within 1.2 pounds of nopay right now, and I am REALLY hoping to reach it by next Saturday. Sept. is the two-year anniversary of my making lifetime, and it would mean a lot to me to be back within the limit, this month.
Guess I'd better get to work! Everyone have a great week!
Jan! you can do it!! 1.2 to go! happy 2 yr anniv!!!
I'm so glad that you escaped the accident with only a bruised toe!
WHEW! what a scare!
I was thrilled last night to find broiled shrimp on the menu at a mexican restaurant that we went to with dgs to celebrate his bday! They were delicious and beautiful, all butterflied in their little shells.
Oh, Jan-- I am praising the Lord that you are all right -- JOYce said that your sweet Dad was also in the car? It sounds as though you are living proof that there are miracles happening every day...I am so glad that you and your Dad are all right. Please keep us up to date on your recovery. I am impressed that you are so close to your goal weight, that is super! And I will join JOYce in wishing you a happy second anniversary!
JOYce, wtg on choosing the broiled shrimp ... sounds delicious! It's all those wise decisions that add up to losses. And thanks for the vote of confidence!
Linda, you are so right, that's where the credit goes ... that was my first thought when I found Dad was all right. I'm still sending up prayers of thanksgiving. Dad actually saw it as an adventure, and was in "take charge" mode right away! He insisted on being "in" on all the conversations with the patrolman, etc. DH came right away and tried to take Dad home, but he wouldn't leave until we were through with everything at the scene. Wasn't the least bit worried or disturbed about it, just sorry I'd lost my van. Guess that's the kind of mettle that earned him all those medals for bravery in WWII!
Guess I'd better get going! We have a friend staying with us for a few days while he settles his aunt's estate; I'm sorry he lost his aunt, of course, but we are really enjoying getting to visit with him again. (He lives in Dallas.) More on that later!
Hope to hear from Nascar Girl, Hottie, Janet, Texaslady, Carol, Bluvsu, and all our other members soon!
Jan, I had tears in my eyes as I read of your sweet Dad and how he wanted to stay until all of the details were settled regarding the accident. He becomes more and more dear to me, the more I read/hear about him. I had no idea that he had WWII medals -- please shake his hand for me, and tell him that I have nothing but respect for him, as he is a part of "The Greatest Generation," who knew what hard work was and didn't expect things to be handed to them on silver plates. What medals did he receice? Has he read "The Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw? I recommend it highly -- to you and DH too, as it gives us but a mere glimpse of what these good folks went through. Anyone who reads that book can understand a bit better how this generation was truly the greatest. Blessings on you and sweet Dad, I am still giving thanks to our Lord for sparing your lives.
Hi Linda, you are so sweet ... Thanks for the reco on that book; I may be able to get it on tape for him. Re: medals, he has quite a few; one that is esp. meaningful to him is the British Distinguished Flying Cross that Lord Halifax presented to him, for landing his float plane in a mine field to rescue downed pilots. (He commanded a squadron of rescue pilots.) DH took Dad to the WWII museum in New Orleans last fall; they both really enjoyed it, and the staff gave Dad the royal treatment, as they do all the veterans.
Hope everyone's having a great week! Gotta run ...
Regards,
Jan
...Asked my dh as I was reading your post, Jan. He saw me smiling over your report that your sweet Dad had gotten the "royal treatment" at the WWII museum in New Orleans. That is wonderful that your dh took him to see it, I imagine the museum folk were honored to have your Dad there.
I had sort of fallen off the OP wagon, but today I am back on it. I bought the new calculator at one of my meetings, and it is so easy to use, I'm glad I am back at it now. I was going out to lunches and dinners a lot in the last couple of weeks, and that made me think, "Well, I'm blowing it; there's really no reason to be counting my points," which is, as you all know, ridiculous thinking! I think I put a couple of pounds back on, so I'm no longer only 5 pounds from my goal weight, but I'm going to strive toward that again.
Linda, WTG on getting the new calculator and going back OP! Going out to eat makes things really hard, I know, and it's not easy to estimate points. But it sounds like you've got a handle on it now! I know you'll reclaim goal in no time!
I'll have to take a look at that new calculator next meeting. I did buy the 12-week journal, and have been keeping that every day, but I keep using ALL of my flex points and exercise points! It has been slow, but the new system seems to be working so far.
Just went to the library with Dad and checked out Brokaw's book; they're also going to order the audiotape for us from SA. And, an added bonus, found Dr. Phil's new book there too! They must have just put it out. I'm sure he'll say the same things WW tells us, but with all the hype about it, I can't help but be curious. Have missed every one of his weight loss shows and specials due to work.
I am on my way to WI then hit the road to see how Mother is doing and meet some cousins who are going to visit her this weekend.
My scale shows I'm down a few pounds I can feel some difference. My eating habits are changing. (Thanks to Jan and her dh) I told him that he could do a cooking show when he retires from teaching. He would be right up there with the best of them. actually it whould be a "dh and Jan show" They are quite a team. and they could top off the show with a bit from her sister 'personal trainer' with exercise tips! Dear dad would be a good producer/director! a real family show! (I am quite serious about all this!)
We walked the County Fair for a couple hrs last night and I was pooped! It will be good to rest in the car today I was still sore from moving furniture on Tuesday. Is nice to have a re-arranged living room. helps with some deeper cleaning! and freshness. Although my poor little sheltie is still confused. I'm sure she gives me dirty looks when she goes in there.
JOYce, down 5.6, that is FABULOUS! WTG on all the walking at the fair, too. County fairs are such fun!
Thanks for the vote of confidence re: our cooking, that was sweet of you! It does really help me a lot that DH enjoys cooking; makes things go much faster.
Hope you had a lovely visit with your Mother and your cousins from Alaska!
I have some good news to share also! DH and I went to WW yesterday, and I reclaimed my goal!! Yay! Way under the nopay limit, even! We celebrated with a movie (Matchstick Men, really good) and a leeetle shopping spree at Ross. (Found some winter clothes, real bargains.)
So now my next goal is to get below 150, on my way to my personal goal, somewhere in the lower 140's, I think. I really love this new flex plan!
Hope everyone's having a great weekend! Other than yesterday's trip to SA, ours has been quiet. DH and I walked at the park this morning real early, have been OP food-wise, and are enjoying the lovely weather. Tomorrow is a work day at school (no students) so I'll be able to catch up on my grading and lesson plans, etc.
Yay, JAN! Super work on being back under goal. That is just wonderful, I am so happy for you! I know you will get in the lower 140's, look at how successful you have been so far. Kudos!
