hi Patch: I am the happy recipient of a pick up full of aged horse manure that my garden beds are quite happy to use this fall and winter as mulch.
Sooo, I have spent many an evening moving buckets of this "black gold" around to various parts of our garden.
Oy, my shoulders are killing me, but everything looks so much better for it.
I think that the mulching is not such a big deal in So Cal. You would be mulching more with shredded bark than compost (water retention). I need to amend my beds and also give some of little tender perennials some protection.
You had to ask....
Now, I would be in heaven if I had a worm bin too.
lala - whenever you're ready for worms, just let me know. I'll send you some good husky Joisey worms. Plus alot of free advise (some would call it interference) about the dear worms and their habits/likes etc. I got my first batch of worms in the mail, so I know it can be done!
