Calories in a point?

  • Hi all,

I know this has already been asked and answered...but I'm trying to work another program with WW and I was wondering if there is a ball park calories / per point?

I am in the 28-33 range, and I'm trying to figure out if that's closer to 1500 or 1800 for a menu plan...

    Thanks!
  • In general 1 point is approximately 50 calories with no fat or fiber figured in.

Point Range Converted to Calories (This isn't always 100% true because of fat and fiber)

    18-25 points = 1050-1400 calories
    20-27 points = 1150-1500 calories
    22-29 points = 1250-1600 calories
    24-31 points = 1350-1700 calories
    26-33 points = 1450-1800 calories
    28-35 points = 1550-1900 calories
  • Thanks Kelly!

that's close enough for me to get the menu plan done...
I'll just adjust it so it fits my points.

    You're a gem!
  • calories.
One point could be as low as 20 calories or as high as 110 calories. Your best bet is to focus on a nicely well-rounded food plan that includes ALL the basic food groups, and does not exclude any particular categories. If you get in your veggies (most are zero, some are 1, 2, or 3 pts a serving) and fruits (all are at least 1 point) AND include fats (you should target yourself for 2 to 3 points a day in added fat -- oil, salad dressing, butter, etc.) you'll do fine. Theoretically, you could eat 400 calories a day on 20 points or as many as 2200... so the range is a little "dubious" which is why WW doesn't incorporate calorie lists... In any event. Kelly's information is absolutely on target (for averages' sake) and you can plan accordingly. Good luck! :-)
  • She has a nutritionist helping her and they need an approximate calorie range for the points. So she will be eating balanced.
  • It's all about balance!
Imaleader - Thanks for the input. I do try and stay pretty well rounded, and stick to the principles, but I've been stuck for a while, and my doctor suggested using the nutritionist at her office (it's free, so I said sign me up!!! ;-) )

She wasn't up to speed on the new WW plan, and wanted some calorie guidelines so she could create a menu plan for me, but I also discussed the details of the right mix and balance with her.

I anticipate doing some adjustments to her menus points wise, but at least it's a place to start!

The good news is, I think I FINALLY broke my 6 week plateau! Yippee!!

    Thanks guys for your help!

    NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!!!!!!
  • Dear WineBrat: That's great news. I know how you must feel. When I was in weight loss mode I was on a plateau for 16 weeks and I was (are you ready?) ONLY 2 POUNDS from goal. It was intense... Good luck -- you know you can do it -- just don't make it a race to the finish, because the "finish" is where it actually all begins. Take care.
