Thin4Life - Week of July 9/01

  • Hey everyone, how ya doin? It's another Monday and another opportunity to make a clean start. I have just begun my second 12-week journal; the other one lasted almost seven months. I guess that tells you how faithful I've been.

All this talk about problem appliances has me nervous; knock on wood, but we've been pretty lucky in that department, and with the price tag from the renovations, we don't need anything breaking down any time soon.

My weight is up this morning, and little wonder. Eating badly again. However, I continue to save myself with exercise. A good 7k run yesterday morning and then dragon boat practice last night. I slept like a log.

What's everyone up to this week? Later...
  • Hi good morning. Back at work, ho hum...

Saturday was beautiful here in NJ. Did a little weed picking and garden puttering. then Sat eve we went to a WONDERFUL concert of our favorite local musician, Travis Wetzel. He is a hugely talented fiddle/mandolin player, whose range includes bluegrass, jazz, swing, klezmer!, American Indian, folk, etc. I get so thrilled to go to his concerts. If Travis Wetzel ever comes to your area, grab the opportunity. Wow...

Then yesterday, rainy, muggy. Mom came over. We ended up in a little Italian/pizza restaurant and I consumed more bread in one day than I have in the last month. Good. And she beat me at Boggle. Nothing new there.

Hey Lala, if that DP of yours starts bringing home the potato chips, then we'll tackle her, since you're okay with the chockies in the house. Anyone addicted to chocolate can't be all bad...

seasaw that dragon boat racing does sound like fun. Maybe kt should try it for an insomnia cure...

i guess i should do some work. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Hi all-
Cloudy morning here in beautiful San Diego. I guess its nicer inland, but the dew and breeze do wonders on my hair (not)

Spent most of yesterday with my parents comparing airfares for an upcoming trip that they are still going to book via an agency. sigh. I know that its good to do research, but this was a bit much.

I'm so not enthused about this week of meetings, its very rah rah and then lots of people talking about software development. I am hoping I hear something that will make me swoon, but i'm certainly not holding my breath.

I had my first two skinny cows yesterday (vanilla and chocolate). They are pretty darn tasty little things. I prefer chocolate to vanilla. DP had a chocolate one and pronounced it very good. At least when I'm in Berkeley I can get them too.

seesaw: Wow a 7k run --you go girl! I like the 12 week to 7 mo journal idea. I am so good about journalling on line, but not very good about writing it down. Don't worry your weight will be back down in seconds.

laurel: I love it when i find a local act I like. If he comes our way, probably around the folklife festival, I'll be sure to check him out. DP is a choco fiend, not a salt or savory fiend like me. She does has a penchant for acquiring exceedingly rare goat cheeses from france and sharing them which is good. The smell, however, is a bit strong for most, so we try to separate our food loves, they don't mix.

So everyone else, I hope you are all well. kt I hope your desk and inbox have light loads and your vm mysteriously malfunctioned last week.

    see you ladies later.

  • Hi all! It's been a nut house here at work today. The phone hasn't stopped ringing since I've been here. Mondays are always tough with orientation stuff going on, plus I start the day at 7:15 a.m. I'm counting down till I can head for home.

This week is a busy one for me. Way too much to do and never enough time. On a positive note, I did manage to get out and get a walk in yesterday again. I was hoping to get outside today at noon but didn't make it out--ended up leaving for lunch late and then helping a student out. Oh well, hopefully tomorrow morning I'll be able to get one in before work and then walk again at noon.

I will go for my "official" weigh in on Wednesday and I'm a little nervous about it because the eating has been horrendous lately. I've really been struggling with keeping my journal. Each day I say I'm going to keep it up and then I put it off. I am going to go through and re-read all of my materials and hopefully get some motivation back. Summer is a tough time for me for maintaining.

Hope everyone else is doing okay!
  • 'Morning friends...

a hot and sticky day guaranteed for New Jersey. Ah, the good ol' days of summertime. Well, the fireflies and also the lightning bugs have been putting on a good show this year.

Today is my first at home weigh in, since my WW franchise does NOT allow courtesy weigh-ins for lifetimers (if you want to get weighed you got to pony up the twelve bucks. Nice, considering I spent about $900 or more during the WW adventure.) But I think I maintained this week. I'll let you know.

Melissa good luck with your weigh in. I think summer is hard too for eating. I tend to pick at the ice cream in the freezer ALOT! Of course, you can't count that, now can you??

why are our bodies such good little points counters? why?

    e you later.

  • Mornin' everyone!

What a difference a day makes! The phones are a little quieter today than they were yesterday. It was a really busy day so today isn't quite as bad thank goodness.

On a positive note, last evening I took my niece and son out to see all the fish that have been placed so far in our area. They are doing the same thing like they did in Chicago with the cows on parade. Anyway, we were out walking for about 2 hours and my legs really feel it this morning. It's a good sore though

It's another hot, humid day here but the forecast is positive with cooler temps on the way--we'll drop down to 72 for a high tomorrow and the next few days will be even cooler. I'm much happier when the temps hover in the low to mid 70's with no humidity.

Laurel: I'm lucky that the center I go to I'm able to weigh in weekly to keep myself in check. You'd think that they would all be the same to encourage Lifetime members to continue to come weekly and by allowing them to weigh in weekly this would benefit the new members as well. The meeting I attend on Wednesday at noon there are about 8-10 Lifetime members who attend weekly. I look forward to seeing my "buddies" each week and I'm always learning something new.
  • Just had to inject my two cents worth too Laurel regarding the weigh-in rule. My WW centre is similar to Melissa's . Your first weigh-in of the month is the "official" one, and you can get weighed as many times as you wish after that. I find it curious that the rule isn't the same everywhere...

Out for a short run in the pouring rain this morning. I know, I know, I'm a sick puppy. On the other hand, I've already scarfed down two chocolate bars so I guess I won't be within my points range for today. A-R-R-G-G-G-H When will I regain control?

Maybe I should just shoot for maintenance for the rest of the summer and forget about losing those last few pounds til September. I've always regarded September as a "starting over" month - it's a throwback to school days I guess.

Gotta run - it's almost quitting time for me. E ya tomorrow!
  • Well,
I have a few minutes to post this evening. It is starting to cool off here (been around 90 the last few days, but I don't mind, it could be winter!) & tomorrow brings milder temps of around 78.

Thanks to all for your concerns about my off & on early am insomnia attacks. The last few mornings have been better so I've decided to walk in the pm if I'm able to sleep in the am. Gotta take advantage of the sleep while I can!

Well, I am going to the WW Basic leader trng skills this weekend in Milwaukee. I am still slightly wishy-washy about going (I feel this way about everything with regards to future career options), but Milwaukee is only about an 1-1 1/2 hours east of here, so it's pretty convenient plus the trng is Fri, Sat & Sunday and I don't work on Fridays, so it works out pretty well.

I also applied for a job I saw in Sunday's paper, so we'll see if that brings any bites on a different job.

I have kept my eating in check quite well, but my scale at home doesn't seem to be budging. I don't envision a loss at my meeting on Wednesday. Our community meeting is pretty loosey-goosey about "official" lifetime weigh in. Many a member have stepped on our scale to see if it's a weight they want to record as official for that month.

Well, need to get DD off to bed. Gotta run!

  • Hi everyone. It's still overcast, foggy and drizzling here today - it seems like we've been locked into this weather pattern forever instead of just four or five days.

Have any of you tried the Cola Chicken recipe that is posted somewhere on these boards? I got home later than usual last nite and decided to try it since it's so simple - equal parts of diet cola and ketchup. To my amazement, it was delicious! I can see where that might become a favourite fallback on those days when you just want to order out!

kt: Wow! That is a pretty loose weigh-in system. And I thought my centre was good! Good luck with the training session this weekend and with the other position you applied for.

lalala: How are you doin' in San Diego with all of that free grub? Go for the fresh seafood - that's usually my strategy at buffets and the like, and it usually works out OK.

    Hi to Laurel and Melissa.

There was an item on our local news last night that caught my attention. It seems we have a guy going about our fair city pinching the buttocks of "athletic blonds". Police have received about 15 complaints since early spring. Both my sister and I are blond, (but apparently not "athletic" enough for him.) Seriously, it kinda makes you wonder where some folks are coming from, doesn't it?
  • Seasaw - I have also tried the Cola Chicken recipe several times & loved it! DH loved it as well. I think I may have even responded to that recipe thread.

  • Afternoon everyone!

I went to my meeting today and "bellied" up to the scale and decided to "Take the hit and move on" attitude...anyway, I was actually down .8 this week! Woohoo!

Seasaw: I like your thinking of just maintaining through summer and then focusing on losing the last few pounds come September. I generally do better with losing in the Fall/Winter than I do the summer.

Katie: Your center sounds really lenient regarding monthly weigh-in's for lifetimers. It always surprises me when I hear of other centers that don't allow Lifetime members to weigh in weekly...gosh I can just imagine what damage I could do in 3 weeks. Of course, it may make you more accountable if you're the type of person who can do that. I'm definitely not that type of person.

It's a beautiful, cool summer day here today. The temps and humidity have dropped quite a bit and it's only 67 outside today. This is my kind of walking weather. My DS has a soccer game tonight at 7:15 so it will be pleasant to be outside watching the game.

The cola chicken recipe sounds good...I'll have to give it a try.

    Catch everyone later!
  • evening everyone,

just about to hit the hay...

i am a little unhappy about the fact that I can't jump on the ww scale for free. seems silly. But I'm using my home scale once a week. It's not a great scale (one of those digital strain gauge types), but I think it's close enough - maybe off by one or 2 pounds tops - to give me an idea of where I'm heading.

Congrats to all on their losses this week - Melissa, Myra and I think there was someone else - but i'm half asleep...We're all keeping up the good work in one way or another. My neighbor commented to me tonight that she wants to lose weight but in the last year since she's going to nursing school she can't concentrate on it right now. I agreed. This WW-healthy lifestyle does require alot of attention and concentration.

    talk to you tomorrow.

  • TGIF!!!

A little sore this morning. Spent the better part of yesterday afternoon meandering down a beautiful river in a canoe. Other than the wind which was against us and quite strong at times, it was great. Saw a bald eagle and a big turtle sunning itself on a rock, a snapper I believe. The three hours of paddling and 1/2 hour run in the morning added up to a heck of a lot of activity points for the day. Must be why I'm down a few pounds this morning!

There's a jazz festival on this week so we're going to take in one of the performances tonite - a salsa band with celtic roots! Can't wait to hear that combination.

The dragon boat races go tomorrow and I am psyched! We've had a few good practices so I'm hoping we won't embarrass ourselves too badly.

    Have a good one everyone.
  • I feel like our Thin4Life posting is getting buried.

Hello everyone! It's a gorgeous summer day today. Reporting from inside at work, but the rumor is...gorgeous day out. The evenings have been fantastic too. Long may it continue.

lala inspired by you, i attacked my compost pile last night. It's been quite neglected. It's mostly a huge pile of garden waste (my food junk goes to the worm bed) and amazingly undecomposed almost completely though the leaves and stalks have been laying around for over a year. Way at the bottom is some good compost which I'm putting on my puny tomatoes. Will go for some horse manure, rebuild my pile and water it and hope for the best. Love it, so satisfying.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • Hi all-

seesaw: good luck with your dragon boat race! I am impressed with your cross training. You guys will rock.

I'm also jealous of your lazy day canoeing, its one thing to see wildlife from the trail, but from the water, its even more amazing.

I'm wrapping up a week of meetings. Today is the last summary day and thank goodness. I am overwhelmed by all the new technology and information. You no longer can be just a scientist or a analyst, you have to be a programmer to get the software to work. sigh.

I'm off to santa barbara for the weekend. My parents are a bit bummed, but its a great excuse to see some grad school friends. I hope it doesn;t turn into a food frenzy. My TOM is almost here and I hope this last 31 pt day is the end of it for 3 weeks.

I'm hoping everyone has a fantastic weekend, the weather will be moderate, the food choices sensible and the exercise/activity fairies kind.
