I registered under this user name, but use a variation of my real name in the chat room (don't ask me why!!!!! Think when I first started I was worried about privacy). Now I have heard that at some stage a password will be required to access the chat room. I like my message board user name (I chose it because 1. My hubby tells me I have lovely bottoms (no offence meant or taken - and I know you are thinking way too much info here ) 2. It's true and finally, but most importantly it makes me laugh. Now from several discussions in the chat room, the word "Fat" is not really appreciated. I guess maybe it is because fat appears to me a more sensitive issue in the US compared to the UK. I know some people would say it is a derogatory term and let me make it clear, I would never call anyone fat and I thought it was a funny user name for me, there was no other hidden agenda. Guess I am really rambling here, but I just wanted to hear other members' views on the use of the word.

Just to make an additional comment, a male user to the chat room who used Fat in his user name commented that maybe this site should be renamed then!

I don't see what is wrong with your user name - it's light and funny and it's yours so no one else has any say about it. Call yourself what you want to call yourself. And you're right - if the fat word is the problem, then this whole site is a problem.

BFB - This sounds like a case for the PC police. They are all out there, looking for slights and slams wherever they may not be or even meant, steering the attention away from what you are really saying.

I think your name is rather clever and if it has some private special meaning to you then it is more of a motivation than a slam.

My nicknames are sugar cube and lotus blossom. Always said with affection, enough said.

Hello Groovygal- The word FAT when speaking of yourself or another person seems harsh. I prefer to say overweight,heavy.etc. It does not seem to be as hurtful or demeaming. A good many of overweight people have a difficult time with self esteem. But if your name is your choise then by all means use it. It's your right.
I disagree Luvmygirl- This is a great site with a lot of great people sharing ideas and helpful information.

Have A Great Day

The name of this site is "3 Fat Chicks..." so I don't see why anyone should be bothered about that you choose to use the word fat as part of your name, especially when it has a specific meaning to you alone.

I remember the first time I saw your name, I thought it was so cute! There's nothing wrong with it at all. It's great that you have a good attitude about it!
Some people are just more sensitive , but as long as you don't "call" someone that it's fine. There was an "older " woman that used to come to our meetings, she was in her late 70's. She was a very nice lady but would always comment on how "fat" people were. Our leader finally said something to her about it and she just didn't understand what the big deal was!"That's why we're here!" she said, "We're all a bunch of fatties!"
Some were offended but most of us were just shocked and thought it was kind of funny.

It doesn't offend me at all. In fact I really like your sreen name. I say go for it.

ICANDOIT You had me laughing about what that lady said I am not sure how I would react. i think I would be offended about being called fat...but I don;t think it is the same thing as using fat in your user name. It isn;t like she iscalling anyone fat. ANyway, That is so funny. (maybe more shocking then funny...but I cant imagine anyone saying that! )

(hugs)

I used to dislike the term "fat," but after spending some time with Fat Acceptance groups, I now think it's fine. Fat no longer holds any value connotations for me -- it's nothing more than a descriptive. Being fat doesn't mean I'm lazy or dumb or bad or pick-your-insult-of-the-hour. It means I've got a bunch of extra fat cells sticking to me; that's it.

And I love your nickname!

Joanne D -
I should have clarified. I meant the name of the site and not the contents.

Perhaps those who take offense haven't come to terms with their own bodies. As Lauren H so eloquently said, 'fat' does not connote a host of other deprecating attributes unless you let it.
So for the record, I confess before you all: I'm fat.
I have a big, fat booty. And lots of other parts of me are fat, too. Or heavy or plump ar thick or plus-size, whatever.
When I saw your name, i laughed. I thought to myself "She knows what this is about, she's already honest with herself, she can only succeed."
Shake that booty like nobody's watching and rock on with yer bad self.
You're gonna do it.

Ok BFB,
Have to put my 2 cents in. I know that you use another name in chat and you may be able to register them separetly.. I would ask Ruth.

Also your comment about negitive names in chat. I think it has to do with how people see you, seeing yourself. If you see yourself as a big fat waste of time, it comes across in the name. ( Think about some of the negitive names that have come up and how you feel when you see it) With some of the names it apears that people have no value in themself and are looking for others to show them their self worth. The name we choose gives a clue to who we are and how we wish to be seen.

Personally I like both of your names, however, The dancing girl adds charm to your name on the postings that will not be seen in chat. Your advantage is that you know a lot of the folks in chat and a name change may not be hard for them knowing the circumstance of having to log in and register your name.

I know I have not really answered your question, but maybe this will help you answer your own question.

Words Words Words are they important? As a man Bigfatbooty sounds endearing (thats the only word I could think of that was appropriate for a married lady).

When I first saw the name BigFatBooty, I thought it was so cute too! I would name myself that...mostly because I do have a big fat booty! It's much more appropriate when you're talking about yourself. I'd never tell anyone they had a fat booty unless it was someone very close to me, and they wouldn't be hurt because I meant it in a non-hurtful way. But no, I don't think it's offensive - the only one who could be offended is you, and if you're not then no one else should!

I love your name! I have had people tell me I shouldn't think of myself as a watermelon, maybe a canteloupe or something and my name has nothing to do with weight so I just laugh...I collect everything watermelon..dishes, teasets, candles, you name it and I have it..my husband says if he comes home and finds a watermelon toilet we are in trouble. My friend and I always say we have big fat booty's and that's cute about your hubby...keep the name!!!!

Best wishes to all
