Thin4Life Week of May 7

  • Good morning Lifers, Soon-to-be Lifers, Lurkers, and everyone else!

Hope everyone had a productive weekend!

It's really windy here this morning but the sun is shining and I'm planning on getting some walking in over the lunch hour today.

My weekend was pretty busy--I was in Chicago for a meeting on Saturday (meeting lasted way longer than I had anticipated) so I didn't get to do anything exciting. I had planned on going swimming in the hotel pool but there were a bunch of kids staying there and so I didn't go. I didn't feel like dealing with a bunch of kids horsing around in the pool. On the upside, I did manage to get quite a bit of walking in on Sunday at the airport.

Eatingwise I've been doing okay. I'm really working on keeping up with my journal, drinking my water and watching portion sizes. My goal is to be back down to 138 by mid-July. I can do this as long as I put my mind to it.

Lala: I had posted a response to your message on last week's thread re: weekly meetings.

    Happy Monday everyone
  • Hi Melissa and everyone else out there.....

Yikes, where did that weekend go? I am just swimming in work and other committments including sleep!

I had a pretty good weekend, did a bunch of gardening and running around. We went to a friend's 40th bd party which was a very nice food orgy, badminton party and art extravaganza. A couple of women there are training for the danskin triathalon and are encouraging me to do it with them. I would love to but , I can't swim worth beans. I would have to backstroke for 1/2 mile in a cold lake. I may train with them though. Its in August and I'm not sure what my schedule is looking like.

I'm off to the Dutch Harbor, Alaska in the Aleutian chain at the end of the week. Woo hoo. I haven't been there in six years. I'm excited and terrified at the same time. I love the science, its just the sea-sickness that can really do me in. So everyone think gentle breezes and temps in the 40's for the next few weeks, I'm more than likely to have 20' seas and gales. yech.

I figure the boat has a treadmill and bike, so I'll probably work out while I'm out. I'm not sure about the eating. It depends on the weather. It may be mashed potatoes and soy sauce and popsicles for me.

I'm trying to do things right this week. I lost the 1.8# I gained last week. So, i guess if i can keep it off I'm in good shape. I weigh in early this week, so I'll just watch my
    sodium.

    Have a great day.

  • Hi there Melissa and lalala. Everyone seems to be on the losing track -- everyone except me that is. We're just back from our escape "Valentine's Day" weekend, and the report from the scales reflects the type of weekend I had - food and drink that pretty much blew the top off of the old WW points scale. Anyway, it's Monday and I'm hoping to get back on track. I know, I seem to say that every Monday. Where is the tenacity that saw me through a 30-lb weight loss? Help

I have been pretty good about exercise though. We went on a three-hour hike on Saturday along the cliffs of the Bay of Fundy - spectacular view and perfect weather for hiking - a little on the cool side.

The Inn we stayed at was lovely - it lived up to the advertisement for a change. Unfortunately, it's a little early in the season so many things weren't open yet. Oh well, looking on the bright side, we managed to avoid the crowds.

DH leaves on his sea trials this coming Sunday. He'll be away for three weeks. The bathroom renovations are coming along nicely, but to take the joy out of that, they cut the hole for the skylight at the end of last week and the house truly looks like a bomb has been detonated in it. I don't even want to think about being left with this situation - let alone having to deal with the worker guys - but such is life. I'm actually looking forward to some time alone; as much as I like/love the guy, he can make life more complicated sometimes.

Anyway, gotta get back to work. Keep your June goal in sight!
  • Seesaw: I hear you and renovations. Our roof is 60% done and man is everywhere dusty. I'm glad I'm at work during the day. The dog is looking for earplugs and some aspirin.

We are also doing a new skylight for our master bath (the smallest master bath this side of the rockies). I think I will be glad to be gone when that is done.

I hear you on the being alone thing. We both used to go to sea for a few weeks a year. It made for a lovely break. I enjoyed the change in routine, especially listening to NPR (CBC) before work and eating earlier than we do now. Now, my DP will be commuting between central Oregon and Seattle to start Ph D. coursework and I'll be on my own for four days a week for the next few years. Now, that will take time to adjust to.

Are your construction guys creepy? Do you have a friend who might be able to come by and check on you during the day? Yikes.

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. I'm excited to see some part of the eastern part of Canada this summer.

  • Hi, all. Just checking in quickly before getting back to work - busy, busy, busy!

I am definitely NOT on the losing bandwagon, but I need to be. I have gained a few lbs lately, and don't like how it looks in a bathing suit at all! Our family vacation to Tahoe is in about 2 weeks, so I am going to really, really try to put some effort into this weight loss thing for the next two weeks and see if I can get a little closer to goal before we leave.

    Have a good week all!
  • hi all- its busy around here too.

Summer showed up yesterday, the little flirt. Its back to late winter today, cool and
showery. I feel sorry for the guys roofing our house.

I have 15-20 lbs of asparagus to pickle tonight. I'm not excited. I don't mind the pickling, its the jar washing I detest. They are some nice spears and will be delightful treats in the winter.

I'm doing pretty well, I made it to the gym today and managed to get the dog puttered in not such record time. I'm hoping to try for everyday at the gym before I take off.

Yikes, at least I remembered to get my mom a mother's day gift before I left.

I hope everyone here is doing well- program wise and life wise.

  • Hi guys. Just checking in quickly because, like everyone else, seem to be swamped with work and little or not time exists for anything else.

To answer your question re the construction guys lalala, they aren't creepy at all and that was a pleasant surprise. There is one guy - a plumber - who is rather surly, and DH is going to ask to have him replaced because in addition to not being very pleasant, he is rough and doesn't pay attention to detail (like protecting floors and things when he's welding, etc) So we've been pretty lucky as far as personalities go and I have no concerns about being around these guys without DH.

It is summer here too at the moment, but this is Nova Scotia and that will change. Some of my early perennials are in bloom - what a joy after the winter we had.

Exercise is going well; food is not. Help! I would attend a WW meeting for support this week, but I haven't weighed in yet this month and don't want to do so until I lose at least 2 lbs. As things stand now, I know I'm more than 2 lbs over goal. Of course, if this inability to stick with the program persists, I will have to face the music soon.

Ran for 26 minutes this morning before work and am now set to get some major projects off of my desk.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Hi everyone

I, like everyone else, am swamped! It seems that the pile on my desk is never ending and I'm not making any dents in the projects. Too much to do and too little time it seems.

I went to my weekly meeting at noon today and was down 1.8#...woohoo! I'm at my goal weight and am working towards my personal goal.

Yesterday we had rain most of the day and today it's a beautiful sunny day out there. I didn't get out for a walk but am hoping to after dinner tonight.

Hope everyone is managing to get through their projects!

    Melissa
  • Hi Melissa!
Way to go. I hope I don't gain tomorrow, but the way my slacks are fitting, it could be sad. Heck, if I didn't go, it could be worse.

Okay, wouldn't it be nice if we could all end our weeks with at least one pile of paper gone from our desks.

Here I am madly trying to download software to install on a system that I'm not familiar with. I wish I could take my office mate with me, it'll be too bad when I can't ask for his advice.

    have a great evening all.

  • Hi guys. Been away for a few days and am paying dearly for it.

My eating habits have gone to pot. It must be the stress from the renos and the workload here at the office. Why else would I be scarfing down chocolate bars and Cheetos AFTER dinner?? Definitely not because of hunger. I think I may have to revise my June target; as it looks now, I will not be down 2 lbs, let alone 9. I won't give up tho, just try to maintain where I am so that when some of the pressure is off, I won't be looking at an even higher number.

The skylight over the stairwell is finally in - the finishing carpenter needs to get at it for crackfilling, sanding etc. but I think the messy part if finally over. I vacuumed for over an hour yesterday, trying to pick up most of the sawdust, plaster etc. Did I tell you the tile guy quit the other day - before he even got started? I guess he had a few other jobs lined up with clients that he does regular work for and he just couldn't handle/juggle our job along with the others. So, there's a new player involved starting today. And DH leaves Sunday morning for three weeks. My -- life if fine.

I only have three urgent projects due today, all of which reguire at least two hours of attention, so gotta run. Hope to be able to post more personal messages to everyone next week.
  • Hi All-

I thought I would be sailing by now, but we are stuck in Anchorage due to bad weather in Dutch Harbor. Yikes, yesterday we flew all the way out and aborted our landing due to gusty winds. Well the winds have picked up even more, blowing 100 knots and 50'foot seas are forecast, so the boat isn''t leaving the dock. Funny since its sunny and beautiful in Anchorage and is beautiful about 1/4 of the way out the Aleutian Chain. At least we are getting a couple of nights stuck in a big city.

I'm about to hit the nordstrom and then see if i can use the health club at the hilton later today.

Seesaw- I'm sorry about the tile guy, you'll get back there soon enough. Maintaining is good enough. I wish your husband smoother seas.

I should get going because I'm at a cigar bar (yech).
