Default Points vs. Calories

I have been on WW for many years and I have been maintaining for that long. I have to loose 5 pounds that I gained over the holidays and as I was reading thru the materials, I started to wonder about points vs. calories. I know that the point ranges have a certain amount of calories-therefore if someone went on a calorie diet in their point range, would the results be the same? It seems to me that the points are almost like some kind of formula that just works with your body-like a balance. Anyway, thanks for reading and I welcome your thoughts!
