Unhappy

I deserve it, but it still hurts! I started WW in August, and have only had two gains- .2, .4. I have not been following the eating part of the plan for the best part of 3 months, and haven't suffered the consequences- until now! I gained 7.8lbs in a week. I deserve it, and am going to get back on track and lose it again. I just wondered if anyone else had ever had a gain that HUGE before??? If so, how did you deal with it? I plan to stick to my pts religiously, try out journaling starting at supper, and just DO IT!

Saskie~~~
I know that ANY gain can be upsetting~I'm going through one this week also. But remember that there will always be some ups and downs along the way.
If I remember correctly, you started out at 200 lbs and are now around 147 (I forgot to write them down before I started this). My God, that means that you have LOST over 50 pounds. Do you realize how much that is?

I want you to do 2 things for me.
1. Look at yourself in the mirror and congratulate yourself for the weight that you have lost.
2. Then tell yourself that you are getting back OP today, and take it one day at a time.
You can do it~ you've already proved it.

Oh, saskie, I feel for you. I get nervous with only one pound gain. Is there any chance that what you ate was extrememly salty and some of the gain is just water weight? You are still 50 pounds lighter than you started!!! Awsome.

Even so, you have the right idea--what's done is done and time to get back to eating right and journalling, as you decided.

Saskie - I also have experienced this. I don't eat well for weeks at a time, but don't see a gain. Then, it all catches up and I see a 4-5 lb. gain in a week. (Never 7.8 lbs at once, but I suspect, like somebody else said, that some of it is water. I'm not sure it is possible to truly gain that much in a week. Maybe it was the clothes you were wearing?)

The best advice is "Take the Hit and Move On." What's done is done. You are still 50 lbs lighter than when you started. Today is a new day - take it one day at a time from here, as you plan to, and don't dwell on one week's numbers. This is for life!!

Good Luck.

AustinGal, it's good to hear that it has happened to someone else- although not quite as much of a gain! I am I correct in assuming that it will probably take longer to take off that it took to put on? It wasn't the clothes- I wore exactly the same outfit as the week before. But, I am already back on track, and I can deal with it. It makes me mad to have to go from having lost 60 lbs down to having lost 50lbs! Its all a mind game sometimes! *L*
REC- Thanks for the support. Yes, I did eat a lot more salt than usual, so I think that probably WAS a factor. Do you see a 1 lb gain very often, being a lifetime member? How often do you weigh in? I could have skipped WI this week, but am trying to keep at it until I have things under control- they haven't been for a long time!
Sil- thanks for your support, as well! You seem to be such an upbeat and positive person- I have joined your Easter Challenge, and I hope to lose those 7.8 lbs by then!
I think there were a lot of factors that influenced my gain: I ate sporadically for the better part of 3 months, I recently increased my level of weight training, pms, lots of salty and unhealthy food for 6 straight days, and living on Ibuprofen for 4 days due to wisdom teeth pain. (I think they have caffeine in them, but not sure!)
Anyway, I am taking this gain as a positive thing, and now know exactly what it takes for me to gain back weight- I will not do it again, as I have worked too hard to get where I am at!!
Thanks to you all for your support and advice, more is always welcome!

Saskie--increased ST, pms, salty foods will all contribute to a temporary water gain. When I'm like this, I try to drink loads more water and eat more potassium rich foods--bananas, OJ and oranges, grapefuits and grapefriut juice (natural diretics). Someone also told me strawberries were a natural dieretic, which sounds delisious to me and low in points! For the rest of the gain, just get back to basics, as you've decided, and it will come off again.

I'm still new to the lifetime program, and when I hit lifetime, I started weighing in once per month, even though I still went to the weekly meetings. Over the course of a few months, I had put back on 5 pounds (but still within my WW limit. Barely.). When I started my "Last 15 pounds" journal, I started weighing in every week and that has helped. If doing WI every week is what I need to stay in control, then that is what I will do. It's better than being fat again. I enjoy my meetings, so it isn't a burden to go.

Better to fix a 7 pound gain today than a 17 one later. Keep us posted! You CAN do it!

Saskie,
This has actually happened to me before. It was over a 7lb gain... and boy did that hit home! I know it had partially to do with the time that I weighed in... in the evening, instead of my usual morning weigh in, and I had drank quite a bit of water before my weigh in a little too close to my weigh in time. I just got right back on the band wagon, and after 2 weeks I had lost those 7lbs plus a little more (over Thanksgiving too!). A lot of times it is easier to lose weight that you have just gained, then to lose weight that has been "sitting" around for awhile. Just stick with the program and that weight will be gone before you know it!

Best of Luck!
