Can someone tell me why the grilled chicken salad is 6 points with NO dressing but...... Salad alone is zero and 3oz of chicken breast is 3 so shouldn't it be 3 points not 6 ????
Thanks
(Confused) Michelle
They are figuring that a grilled chicken salad has other stuff in it.
If you are making it, or seeing it made, do zero for the veggies, and count the chicken. Their tracker is taking the average of whatever chicken salads they researched.
I agree with sea girl- I only use their combinations if I need to. If you know exactly what is in it (made by you or a friend), I would break it down into parts. If you are buying it is more difficult becuase you do now know exactly how they prepared it. Also, when using their recipes veggies and other 0 get calculated in to the total so you need to figure out what is best for your calculation without too much under calculating.
Are you using an app to count, or are you doing it manually? I looked at the BK website and all of the salads have cheese and croutons on them. If you aren't eating those, you'll need to add it manually.
WW explained this somewhere in their literature. I remember reading it the first week. It had to do with certain individual foods being given lower points than they merit if solely based on the points formula, to encourage consumption. (Fruits, veggies, some dairy, etc. ) But when combined with other foods they are then calculated completely from the points formula because one is more apt to eat more when the foods are combined or engage in more hedonic eating. Because of this, I use the points Weight Watchers assigns the combination. Otherwise, my weight loss would be even slower! But I use every point I have by the end of each week.
Libertybelle, I think you are talking about buying prepared foods, such as pasta sauce, for example. The whole nutritional value has to go in the counter if you don't have the recipe, because there is no way to know the individual ingredient amounts that may have points, like oil. So the calories from the zero point foods like tomatoes and onions would count towards the total points. But if you made it from scratch and put the individual ingredients in the recipe builder, it would calculate it with zero points for the fruit and veg because it has complete ingredients to work with.
Burger King no mayo just a grilled chicken breast and salad ie lettuce and 2 cherry tomatoes
If it was from Burger King... I would just count whatever pts it gave me for that particular item from BK... Even something like grilled chicken from a fast food restaurant probably has added calories in it from hidden fats and sugars that we don't even realize most of the time when we're eating out... Unfortunately, most of the time even the grill marks aren't real... they put them on as part of the processing....

From the Weight Watchers 360 Frequently Asked Questions brochure:
"If you use Weight Watchers recipes of the Recipe Builder in eTools, you may have noticed the total PointsPlus value is higher than the sum of the ingredients. We worked the nutrition information for 0 PointsPlus value fruits and vegetables into recipes in part because we want our recipes to be consistent with any recipe you might have at home with nutrition information. But more importantly, we include it because eating, say, a fresh apple, is different from eating apple pie; you're not likely to over do apples, but you might overdo pie."
From the eTools Help Section:
"Is the PointsPlus ™ value of your recipe not exactly what you expected? That’s probably because the PointsPlus program uses a different method for recipes than for foods and meals. The nutrition information per serving for the entire recipe, instead of each individual food, is calculated and then the PointsPlus formula is applied. To try for a lower PointsPlus value, try removing or changing some ingredients, or increasing the number of servings in the recipe."
Hope this helps!
