Default 39 Points seems like a lot!

I re-joined WW on Saturday, first time on Points Plus. They told me my points per day were 39, plus 49 weekly points. That seems like an awful lot, especially when you throw fruits and veggies in the mix. Does anyone know roughly how many calories that would be?

I don't know, but I'm on my 7th day of WW and down a little over 3 pounds so far. I'm allowed 40 daily points. I don't usually eat the whole 40 points worth, but I did allow myself to go over one day this weekend for my cousin's surprise party. It seems to be working because I have been gaining and losing the same few pounds for months on Atkins and now the scale seems to be moving in the right direction again. Some foods seem to have more points with the new points plus system, maybe this equals out in the long run. I try not to overdo it on fruit. I think if you eat more than a couple of portions in a day you should probably start counting their points. And I definitely count the points when it comes to starchy vegetables like potatoes and corn. That's just my opinion though.

If you used any of the previous WW systems, then yes it is going to seem like a lot. But points have been completely recalculated, so while your daily points are raised, the points of foods have gone up, too. When I started I had something like 42 or 43 points (I honestly can't remember)

And like MandyDawn mentioned, you definitely want to count the points for starchy vegetables. With fruit, WW recommends 3-5 servings of fruit and veggies a day, and 1/2 a cup of fruit is one serving.

You should also try to eat your daily points. That number isn't random, it comes with a nutritional basis to make sure you're body is getting the nutrients it needs. I mean, it's okay to be under every once in a while and don't force yourself to eat just to meet the points, but don't think that eating under your daily points will help speed up weight loss. Remember, this isn't a quick fix plan.

Don't be afraid of your weeklies or activity points, either. They are there for you to use them.

When I started WW in January, I was given 43 daily points. I'm now down to 33. I know it may seem like a lot but it isn't really. Points can add up quickly.

Although it isn't a one-for-one deal because of the way points are calculated, I think 1 point equals roughly 40 calories.

I'm given 39 points also, I felt the same, thinking the number was too high, but eating all of them the right way I feel full and satisfied. I rarely touch my weekly points, I feel like I don't need to. Although this past week I did use some up for some chocolate

Tudor Rose - I see you've been doing WW since January 2011. Way to stick with it. You look great! I plan on doing the same and one day soon be in onderland with you. I have a question though. Do you typically use your weekly points and have you all along? I'm just curious

I'm new to WW, but have been on Atkins since July 2011, or was up until a week ago. I think WW will be much easier to stick to for a lifetime, although Atkins really wasn't too hard for me. I just got tired of gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over for the last couple of months and figured it's time for a change. I am in this for the long haul.

Thank you It's been a lot of hard work, but well worth it!

And yes, I have always used my weeklies. On average I eat about half of them (I also earn about 25-30 APs a week). Some weeks I eat more weeklies, some less, all depends on what is going on but I always eat at least some of them.

That's exactly what I have done. This is what worked for me.
