Hi everyone! I hope you all had a warmer weekend and relaxed, enjoyed your families and got all the chores done!
I am finally getting over my cold, thank goodness as I have travel next week. I didn't do much productive this weekend, but its okay to have a layaround once in a while. I did finally complete my first season of the Sopranos (what, only 3 or 4 years late). It was sooo strange.
Nothing planned this week, I have tons of work to do, I need to get back to weigh in (gained at least two lbs on my last travel) and get back into the swing of things.
Anyone have any challenges coming up?
I hope everyone is fine. I'm going to start the journal thread again today. I need to get back on track.
The weekend began wet and then turned to ice and snow on Sunday. It made for a treacherous drive to my son's bowling tournament on Sunday. We were only able to travel 35 mph on the interstate with only 1 lane being used. I had to peel my fingers off of the steering wheel once we got there.
I didn't do much of anything productive over the weekend other than a couple of loads of laundry. I did order the book, Sink Reflections, by Maria Cilley (FLYlady) and did a little reading. I have to admit that she is very inspiring. Now to bring some of her ideas to the forefront.
No major challenges per se this week; Saturday evening we have a 40th b-day party for a friend and then on Sunday a family gathering. I want to watch my p's & q's so I have a good weigh in next week since it's the first of March.
I'm working on keeping up my journal over the weekends and to make sure I'm getting enough veggies.
So, how's everyone else doing?
Patch Where are ya???
Hi to Domina, Myra, Seasaw, Dena, and anyone else I've forgotten!
melissa,
I want that book. I have been a pretty okay little flygirl. That book would be a nice addition to my home maintenance collection.
Anyone refinanced their mortgage recently? I can save another 80 bucks a month on my rental property if I refinance. I was thinking of taking a bit off and doing a bit of home improvement in our residence, but I'm torn. It seems silly to borrow another 5 or 10k, but at 5.5%, that's not bad.
lala-Is the Sopranos good? I have never really sat down and watched it...seems to be quite popular, though!
Melissa-Sounds like a very scary drive, must have been an important bowling tournament! Did your son do well?
I had a good weekend, although it sure was cold! And the cold weather continues on...
I am going to try my DD with baby cereal tonight, that should be interesting! She has been sleeping through the night for a couple months and is now waking up to eat once or twice, so I am hoping cereal will help!
WI tomorrow, and I am also hoping to find out more about working the meetings!
Have a great night!
Good morning everyone. Back in the office after a few days away - vacation day on Friday and a quick business trip yesterday (Monday). Things have been piling up in my absence.
You may remember that DH had a surprise planned for me this past weekend? It turned out to be a weekend away in a beautiful old inn about a two hour drive outside of Halifax. Another couple joined us for Friday nite. It was a surprise for me alone - the other woman insisted on knowing since she's not big on surprises. Anyway, we had a great weekend away - complete with outdoor hot tub, good food, good wine, etc. We really needed that!
Saskie: How did your daughter do with the cereal? I volunteer three hours a week with a Mom who has a three-year-old and four-month-old twins. This woman could really use a break - she's up for most of every night with feedings, etc. and is wondering when she might try more solid food. She is going to consult her family doctor, but I'm curious about your DD's age, and how she reacted.
lala: Haven't done any refinancing lately, but I recognize your dilemma. It seems we never need money when the interest rates are low
Melissa: Glad you made it safely to the bowling tournament. I'm not sure I would have driven under those conditions, but I guess it would have been a major disappointment for your son.
Good news folks - got the go-ahead from the physiotherapist to get back to running. I did a short, easy run on the treadmill Sunday with no ill effects. I've got my fingers crossed....
Seasaw- Sounds like your DH is very sweet! You are lucky!
Also, congrats on hopping back on the treadmill, I hope this means you are on your way to full recovery!!
DD will be 5 months old this week. The books, health nurses, etc.. recommend starting solids between 4-6 months, later in that time if there are allergies in your family. I gave her 1 tsp of rice cereal mixed with 5-6 tsp of breastmilk, and she loved it. She slept from 10:30 until 5:00, which is better than usual for lately!
You can tell if they are ready, if they suck the cereal back or spit it back out.
That is really nice of you to volunteer, I bet taht woman really appreciates the help!!
Have a great day!
Good afternoon all! Woke this morning to another 6" of snow...is it ever going to stop???
Saskie: The bowling tournament went well; my son's team won and now they head to districts in April. Hopefully they'll continue to win.
Seasaw: Sounds like you had a really nice weekend get away. Glad to hear you got the go ahead to start runnning again. I've been making it a point to get out and walk as long as it's not a blizzard out. I went out this afternoon and even though it was really cold out I felt energized afterwards.
Lala: I just love the book! She really hits the right buttons and you definitely feel empowered to get moving. I'm hoping to put some of her theories to work. I have been working on the shining sink for quite some time and find satisfaction in seeing it.
Its beautiful here. Sunny and cool. I am about to head out and take mr. jacques for a walk at work. I have tons of work to do, but I'll take it home and get a nice start on it.
Susan- sounds like you had a great weekend. I would love get a surprise like that. I will pick your brain soon- I am halifax and st. pierre/miquelon bound in June. Whoo hoo. Great news on the run too. baby steps!
Melissa- Gosh, I totally missed the treacherous roads. Yikes! Great on the bowling too! This was not DS #1 with the driver's liscence I take it. I have to admit, I have not been the best of flybabies recently, but I do end the night with my clothes laid out, my lunch ready to go, the coffee pot on the timer and the kitchen sink clean and empty. Sorry flylady, we don't run the dishwasher every night.
Tara- how are you doing with an almost full night's sleep? I think it would fun and nerve racking to introduce food to a baby. I remember watching a friend's child demolish a sweet potato, she loved it and my friend was happy she invested in a drop cloth for her kitchen.
Okay ladies, the mp3 player is loaded and the dog and I are going to hit the trail.
lala- I really appreciate the sleep I get now! I can't complain, even sinnce dd has been sick and waking up a few times a night, she still sleeps in until 8 or 9am! She is taking the rice cereal very well-only a few tiny bites, but it seems to be enough...it is almost 9:30am and she is still asleep, and only woke up a couple hours ago for a snack!! I have gotten studying and housework in already today!
I am only giving her rice cereal for now, don't want to increase her chance of getting allergies, which are common in my family. I do want her to enjoy food though, and plan to be back at goal so I can be a good, healthy, role model for her as she grows up!
Had WI last night, and lost 1.2. Could have been better, but I am happy with that for now! Found out I should be able to start working meetings in a few weeks- that will be fun and hopefully motivating!
lala- have you found a good replacement for your friday night meeting? it was cancelled, right?
don't give me any big credit- I am only taking one correspondance class right now, and have definitely slowed down since dd was born!
good luck gettting rid of that 1.8!
My trip to California was fine, but we had plane trouble for my return flight so I spent an extra night in California (without any bags ) and was really, really glad to get home. Lala - hope your visit with the parents was nice.
Crazy weather here for central Texas - we had a beautiful weekend. It was almost up to 80 degrees on Sunday, and the family took a beautiful hike through the neighborhood greenbelt.
On Monday night it started to rain, turned to freezing drizzle, and dipped below freezing. Tuesday and yesterday, it stayed below freezing so the streets around here were solid ice. Schools were closed the past two days. It is warmer (35 degrees) now, so I packed the kids off to school this morning. By this weekend, it should be back up to the 60's. Crazy!
I've been trying to limit carbs and caffeine recently, and have noticed that I feel quite a bit better during the day, without the sugar and caffeine "crashes" that usually hit me in the afternoon.
Has anybody tried to follow WW points program and also a low-carb program at the same time? I am tempted to try it, and would like to hear about anybody else's experiences in this regard. I know that the Atkins plan is too unbalanced to be healthy, but I was wondering about more moderate low-carb plans, like the Zone diet (don't know much about it, tho).
Another sunny day in Erie, PA...certainly makes you think it's warmer than it really is. I'll take the sun over the snow! We're not supposed to get much of anything this weekend; most of the nasty weather is hitting south of us.
Lala: It was DS #1 with his license that had the bowling tournament. I'm actually happy that he still wants me to go to his bowling tournaments and such with him. Last night we went shopping--he was looking for some shirts and found some great deals at Kohl's.
Tara Don't sell yourself short about taking a correspondence course--it's still work to do the assignments, etc. I took a shorthand class when DS #1 was younger and even though it was more of a refresher course for me it was still a struggle to get the work done after he had gone to bed. I remember the sleepless nights all too well. Congratulations on the weight loss this week!
On a happy note I parted company with .8 pounds this week...I'm happy with that. I really have been making an effort to get out and walk on my lunch hour as long as it's not really nasty weather. Hmmm...seems like the little added movement and really watching my points is working...now to work on getting rid of the rest of my Christmas weight.
I'm really sorry most of the country is under this evil weather pattern. I won't say that its nice and sunny here .
Tara- Don't knock a correspondence course, you are doing great!
Melissa- I was worried DS was driving. Its nice to see a kid who actually enjoys their parents. I remember those days when I was just a brat to my mom. I should call and apologize.
Austin- I had a nice visit. I will be down again soon enough. I think trying a combining ww and low carb is a good idea. I just haven't tried. Any more travel plans in the future?
everyone else- hiya.
I'm leaving early today for a dentist appointment followed by a dinner with a friend who is turning 60!
lala- I'm pretty happy with myself for getting through the class without any extensions! It will really be nice to be done, though! Have you had much nasty weather in Seattle this year? I guess if you get cold you just fly away to somewhere nicer! What is your job that you are such a jet-setter? Enjoy your dinner out!
How long has everyone here been lifetime members? Do you still journal, or only when things start to slip? I think I will be journalling forever!!
