I just bought a blender to make smoothies and I would like to add some kind of powder to make them more filling (as a meal replacement) like protein or fiber. I like to keep it real simple, I just have been blending bananas, frozen strawberries, milk, yogurt and water. Any suggestions?
Protein powder would be good, or calcium if you can find it in a suplement powder for shakes. Protein helps to make you feel full longer so that would be great, and to have before or after a workout. As a woman, calcium is pretty important.
I make smoothies with plant-based protein powder, soy milk and frozen berries. My doctor wanted me to eat more protein and a smoothie was the best way for me. The protein powder is 3 points a scoop and sometimes I put in 2 scoops, sometimes 1 depending on how much protein I'm getting from my other meals. The Costco soy milk is also 3 points. I'm sure there are lower points options for protein powder depending on what type of protein you get and how much you use.
From what I can gather, it looks like whey protein is the way to go. Thank you all for your help! I want to get the most out of my smoothies as possible.
You might want to check out the Consumer Reports article on protein powders. The contents are not regulated by the government and many of the powders contain heavy metals. I expect that most brands of whey protein are OK, but I don't know for certain. I use Jay Robb whey protein. But, Muscle Milk and GNC brands are, I believe, ones on the heavy metal list.
Don't forget that Greek yogurt has as much protein as do many of protein powders, and, as far as I know, there are no heavy metals in that.a
1 cup 0% greek yogurt, 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen mixed fruit, 1 1/2 cup fresh spinach, six ounces juice, I use pineapple. Lots of protein, f/v servings and tasty. 6 PP
