Miserable !!!! HELP :)

  • It all started last Friday night, I didn't get to eat until 10pm and we decided to go to Outback. I didn't eat bad, I had chicken and steamed vegetables. I woke up Saturday for 2 parties which I didn't eat good at all. SO when Sunday came around I decided it is Easter and I would get back on track Monday. Well that never came. The problem is this.... The first week I felt great, lost 5 pounds. I was all excited, then week 2 came and I constantly feel like something isnt right with my body. I have this gnawing feeling in my gut. I cant be hungry b/c I eat all of my points and I eat balanced meals. I felt like maybe I needed to eat a FULL meal. The night I went to Outback I did eat the full meal and I felt GREAT !!!

Sorry to ramble..... ANYOne please give me some advice...

I am at the point of cancelling my membership with WWonline and just being who I am.
  • You took out the membership for a reason. Has that reason changed?

I can't help but wonder what a "full meal" at Outback is. Chicken and steamed vegetables sounds fine, but is that what you're calling a "full meal."

I can only suggest that you consider the not so successful week just a bump along the road to learning to eat well. It's not easy and there are always set backs.

    Good luck.
  • It definitely could be hunger. You points don't guarantee you a free pass from hunger. Losing weight generally means eating less than you did before, so your brain and body is accustomed to a certain amount and type of food. Eating less or eating different kinds of food are going to feel strange and unusual. That's normal.

Making any significant change, can send "not quite right" signals to your brain. Even if you were to suddenly drastically increase your calorie level, you'd probably still get that "not quite right" feeling. Or if you suddenly decide to eat fewer or more fruits and vegetables, or if you change your sleep or exercise schedule. Any change (in any direction) can create those "something's wrong here" feeling.

Whenever you make changes, and whatever those changes are, until the changes become routine, you're likely to have those feelings. You have to either wait it out, or make smaller changes (which only makes the "not right" feelings smaller, it doesn't make them disappear).

You can try making smaller changes, with or without Weight Watchers. That works for some people. It's working for me (but the cost of very small changes, is very small results. It's been a 6 year journey to lose 90 lbs (about 60 of it in the last 2 years).

There's nothing wrong with the "babysteps" approach, but you have to change your mindset if you go that way. You can't expect to see progress every week or even every month. When you're making teeny, tiny changes, you also get teeny, tiny results (and there's nothing wrong with that if it's the path you choose).
  • Ask for a to go box and put half of your meal in it when you go out to eat. You shouldn't think of those meals as "full meals." The average restaurant serves more than a serving of each part of your meal.
  • That gnawing feeling
Yeah, that is hunger. Physical hunger. Those of us who have been overweight often don't even know what that feels like!

Drink water. Change your mealtimes--perhaps eat more of your food earlier in the day. I never eat after dinner, unless it is a planned for dessert like a cookie or sugar free fudgesicle. Eat high volume vegetable dishes like salads and stir-frys. Chew sugarless gum at the end of meals to train yourself that eating time is now over.

I know, just for me anyway, that over my years of dieting, I've learned that generally, if I don't go to sleep slightly hungry at least some of the time, I don't lose weight.

Portion control, eating just enough, not too much, is hard. But it gets easier. And as someone who is wearing a dress today that hasn't fit me for a long time, its worth the effort. Just my opinion, sorry its not a completely rosy one.
  • Hi Stacgirl!
This is my fifth week on WW. I have a few girlfriends who have done WW before, one of which is doing WW again with us (boyfriend and I).

My boyfriend sucks. Weight just pours off of him every week. It makes me want to shove a steak in his face.

I lost the 1st week, was unchanged 2nd and 3rd weeks, then lost again the 4th week. After the 2nd week of not losing, I was super bummed. This is my first time at weight loss, so I'm learning as I go. The friend re-doing WW with us asked where I was in my menstrual cycle. The question seemed a little cliche`, but I gave it consideration. Considering the timing, fluid retention may very well have contributed to my unchanged weight those two weeks. It will take a couple more months of cycles for me to be convinced, but it gives me something to work with and around.

BUT, my point of this in your situation is... I've ALWAYS had a day just days before my menstruation when I could eat anything and everything. I refer to them as my "Eat-The-A**-Out-Of-A-Horse" days, cause I really feel like I could! It's like no matter what or how much or what I eat, I'm never full. On that day over this past month, I went over my daily points. Only day in the month that I did. I was disheartened, but boyfriend was reassuring that the weekly points are there for a reason, and use them! I haven't used my weeklies other than then, but I sure was glad to be able to have a day to eat over twice as much as normally allowed.
  • Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to reply...

I agree with all you have said, especially why did I joint to begin with and if that hasnt changed... Well it hasn't changed and I plan on getting back into full force tomorrow.

Any advice on 0 point foods to keep my hunger away during the day would be appreciated.

    Thanks
  • My advice is to eat more filling foods and I don't mean all zero points foods, either. Lean protein and complex carbohydrates. Healthy fats. I don't know how many points you get but really use them for real, whole foods throughout the day (not a bunch at each meal and not saving them all for an indulgence -- not that I'm saying you do this but I know some people do).
Processed and high sodium/sugar/fat foods always make me hungrier.
Also, I'd be famished and likely overeat if I had gone all day until 10 pm with absolutely nothing to eat. Maybe you should think about when you are feeding your body and make changes there, too.
  • I agree with Spooky, but a few pointers on zero point foods that have helped me. If you're following the WW points plus program (which is the best program WW has put out in my opinion) then all fruits and veggies are zero with the exception of corn and some of the other "strachy" veggies. I load up on a salad w/ grilled chicken (no dressing) for lunch and the only points i eat are with the chicken (1oz=1pt). I walk away satisfied and have used 3-4 points.
    Good luck with the program!
