Plateau Breakthrough Ideas MUCH Needed

  • I'm been up and down the same pound or so for about 8 weeks now. I track, started walking, don't eat all my weeklies, drink the water, and eat the guidelines! Can you please give me suggestions for what has worked for you when you've hit a plateau? I'm at a depressing loss here and don't want to end up quitting. I am so bummed out, not even CLOSE to my healthy weight yet! I had to put the gym on hold due to a hiatal hernia i have to see the Dr. on Thursday for. But I'm walking alot and we started softball practice.

    HELP ME PLEASE!!
  • Everyone is different, but for me, it's upping the protein, and fewer carbs that helps. Hard boiled eggs and tuna work for me...and I have to stay away from the breads/grains/sugars/processed foods. Let us know what ends up working for you. Many of us have this problem. Best of luck!
  • Have you tried calorie cycling/eating more? That has worked for me although I haven't had a true plateau since I started, I just wasn't losing as quickly as I would have liked.
    Maybe if you post what you eat somebody will have some ideas for you.
  • I wrote down a cycling schedule for this week. Hope it does something! I'm also wondering if it's because i tend to eat the similar foods everyday! not exactly the same but very similar from yogurt to granola, salad with hard boiled egg or feta for lunch. Dinner usually chicken or lean ground beef. I try to have more fruit and veggies than breads. I am guilty of the fat free chips and nuts that i've avoided the past week. Don't need the empty calories of the chips and too much fat in the nuts, eating too many. I find that i'm a person that requires "crunch" and veggies or fruit is not doing it for me anymore
  • My leader mentioned last night that whenever anyone hits a plateau she recommends doing something different. Eating different foods, starting a different exercise plan, etc. The body is very efficient at adapting, maybe it has adapted to your customary food intake and workout schedule and you need to shake it up a bit?

    Hello I am on my 2nd day of weight watchers and I walked 4 laps around the block this morning. I am going biking this afternoon with my daughter. Trying to stay around 27 points. I started out low carb and quickly got tired of meat, eggs, and cheese. My starting weight was 311.6 and I am down to 287. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on food, exercise, or just to encourage me on my long journey.
  • What is cycling? I'm having the same issue right now! The scale is refusing to budge. This is the very first stall I've experienced since starting Weight Watchers over a year ago.

    cycling is the same as the wendie plan. calorie counters call it calorie cycling.
  • OP, I know you commented on my very same issue with WW, so I can totally relate! It is soo frustrating to be in a plateau. This last weekend, WW was trying to tell me I wasn't in a plateau, but I have not lost a pound in over 5 weeks!

    last week, I started loseit.com to track my calories and exercise. I think it is just a great website and it has really helped me to see my food habits and calorie expenditures, so much better than PP, in my opinion. I'm not sure if you are like me, but I would use about half my weeklies on the weekend, so I was 'overeating' on Saturdays, generally, but would then stay steady with my dailies only the rest of the week. Well, you can't do that with loseit.com, unless you work-out more to create the calorie deficit, and I think that might be what was holding me back, because my home scale has finally started to budge on this loseit.com plan (basically, just calorie counting).

    Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, and you aren't alone with a plateau

    Oh--and I forgot to mention that using calorie counter really helped me to see how many calories fruits and veggies can have! Even though I thought I was only eating three fruits a day, my serving sizes might have been a bit distorted, so I was probably taking in more fruit calories than I even imagined---and some veggies (I eat a lot of brussels sprouts), have a lot more calories than I would have thought! You might consider counting your fruit as 1 point or something, just a thought?

    Read Kelly_S response (it's the second post), I realize it's an older thread, but it has so much good info in there.
  • I was plateaued for about 8 months up until a few weeks ago. I started eating about 1500-1700 calories a day with a cheat meal after my weigh in and I am losing again. Counting calories is working for now, but I will still ttend the meetings. BTW, I checked the points some of the days I have been CCing and it is 28-32. I am supposed to get 47...lol.
  • For about 6 weeks I lost only 1-2 pounds, so last week I changed my diet (just for a week) I cut out all extra carbs (bread, pasta, rice) and sugar

    and last week lost 5 pounds!!! woohoo

    so now I am back to my old diet (more about moderation) and I will see what happens from now.
  • I think my body likes carbs too much. I"m going to try that too. See what happens. haven't been too motivated this week, not sure why. Not even wanting to weigh in Sat. morning. We'll see, maybe i'll snap out of it by then!
  • i also cut my carb intake in half to see if that helps me lose more weight.
