What kind of buffet?

Generic advice - small plate, one trip, limit carbs and things cooked in oils, lots of veggies.

Okay, I agree that Old Country Buffet would scare me, too. Been there. Love it.

I would say baked chicken or fish, lots of salad with lots of veggies but no cheese or croutons, might do the fresh veggies but you'll want to look close to see if they are drowned in butter. The soup could be okay, but might be heavy on sodium. Avoid the desserts at all costs. Or if you don't avoid the dessert eat just a little tiny bit of it.

Or, you can eat what you want and just try to limit the portions, depending on what you are looking for. I've been known to have high days where I ate more than plan allows for a special occasion. Depends on if you want this to be a special occasion meal or not.

I would have to avoid the dessert today, because I would have no control at all. I know my weaknesses. Good luck.

Buffets are hard.....If you fill your plate with 3/4 Veggies......I would think that might squeak you by!

The Old Country Buffet closed its doors here about a month ago. But we do have Golden Corral.

About two weeks ago, my husband and I went there for breakfast. I was very nervous. But I decided to do what Bob and Jillian say on Biggest Loser...."Ask"

GC has a place where you get a bowl and fill it with everything you want in an omelet. You give it to the cook and he pours the contents into the eggs as it cooks. Well, when I went up, I asked if they had Egg Beaters. He said "no" they only had "real eggs" and he chuckled. I got brave and asked him if he could PLEASE make my omelet using only the egg whites. To my surprise he not only said yes, but seemed happy to do it.

I filled up the bowl with lots of mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and a trace tsp of ham. I then filled the rest of my plate with fresh fruit. I also got a fat free carton of milk and a container of whole grain cereal.

That worked well.

I learned a great lesson that day: It doesn't hurt to ask.

So when you go, if you don't see something that way you would like it.....it doesn't hurt to ask. Like if you want the baked fish but aren't sure about the "sauce", ask if they can get you a piece before they put the sauce on.
