Okaymy energy hasn't gone down at all and I'm eating healthier so I'm feeling quite good about myself
BUT.... I have a problem
My fingers are always icy, even my legs are cold, and sometimes my fingers turn white (lack of circulation?) which makes them hard to even move... goosebumps, chills, you name it
I'm not sick, I know that... do i need more protein or what? I don't understand and if anyone's got a suggestion or comment I'd love to figure this out ASAP
I've always had a slow heart rate, just something from birth.... it's not a problem usually but could that be a factor
I can relate, but have no answers..I've lost 41 pounds..when the loss hit 20 I started that icy hands feeling. Next time I see the doc I plan on having my thyroid checked, and underactive thyroid would cause us to be cold. Also I tend to get cold hands when I'm on the computer for long periods, thats probably from sitting still with my hands elevated on the keyboard. Let me know if you learn why you're cold..maybe it'll help me too.
LF, I've had the same problem. After losing 100 pounds, I'm *much* more susceptible to cold. But this winter, when my fingers started turning stark white and going numb, I checked with my doctor. He referred me to a rheumatologist, who tested for rheumatoid arthritis. Turns out I don't have that, thank goodness, but it's a condition that you need to keep tabs on. For now, I'm supposed to keep my hands from getting too cold, and avoid smoke. (No problem there, as I live in South Texas and I don't smoke!) See http://www.methodisthealth.com/arthritis/reynauds.htm for more info on Raynaud's or Reynaud's Syndrome (which is my doctor's diagnosis.)
chicagoms, I also find that my hands feel sore after a lot of time at the keyboard (which my job entails). Let me know if you find out any more about that...
OK, here's my theory. Like the rest of you, I have been experiencing the cold. Last October/November I suffered from the cold something awful. Most of the winter, in fact, has been bad. I suddenly realized that I am not carrying the same amount of fat that I used to, so I don't have the same insulation as before. Your extremities (hands and feet) will be the worst because your body will concentrate on vital organs before worrying about non vital parts.
Over the past 5 - 6 months I am improving, but I still feel chilled more often than before.
At the same time, my boss decided to lose weight, and after a few months of weight loss, he was complaining to me about feeling cold all the time. (By the time he mentioned it, I was starting to improve slightly). When I mentioned my theory to him, he figured that it must be related to the weight loss and the lack of insulation on the body.
Needless to say, you will adjust once you lose all the weight that you want, and start to maintain. Your body just needs a chance to make the adjustment. In the meantime....carry a sweater, blankey or mittens with you all the time.

Some suggest the problem would have something to do with circulation and an aide to get warmer hands and feet (besides gloves and woolie socks) is spicey foods like cayenne pepper. I don't really know if it works after losing 60# my hands are cold all the time

Hey horsey girl,
I just wanted to also commend you on your weightloss... I noticed your goal weight and where you are now and that's fantastic, you should be proud of yourself!!!!
My self control's lacking and i havent lost ANYTHING yet....
I am also cold all the time and started to notice it after I lost about 15 lbs. I have lost 40 lbs. and my hands seem to be the worst. They can get so cold that sometimes I can't even move my fingers and they end up hurting. I have never had it checked out, though. The rest of me is also always cold, but my hands are extremely cold.
Same here.... I started to feel cold all the time when I went from being obese to overweight.. I still get cold all the time, but part of it is that my family suffers from poor circulation anyway... But alas, the good thing is is that most men are too hot all the time so it equals out
cold intolerance is a symptom of hypothyroid, as is weight gain. get a doc that will look at the entire picture of what's going on. I can't stand being cold; when it's cold outside I get really angry and edgy and will snap at anything.
meanwhile I follow Deepak Chopra's water technique - drink it hot. helps my hands stay warm.
