I guess I'm planning on keeping a partial-secret. My family lives in central Illinois, and my husband and I live in northcentral Wisconsin. It's only about five hours away, but we see each other about three or four times a year.

They're coming up this weekend, and they know my husband and I are on a lower carb diet, but we're about the same size they saw us last time we visited (husband is actually heavier, as he gained about 40 lbs since he's been unable to work due to a shoulder and back injury that worsened a genetic spine and joint condition he already had). Anyway, after they leave I don't plan on keeping them up on our weekly progress, and be sort of noncommittal if they ask (you know the typical, we're trying, but it's not easy sort of response that implies that it's not going all that well) and I'm hoping to have gotten quite a bit off before we visit in July.

It's kind of a childish game, and knowing me I'll be so excited with the weight loss I'll probably cave and tell them before we get there, but for now, it's fun planning the "unveil."

{I think I've been watching too many makeover shows - but I do plan on also getting a loose perm and a dramatic haircolor and highlights from muddy light brown/dark blonde to a medium or light auburn with copper highlights I think. And a new outfit of course}

I had to quit WW when our budget took a nosedive (for the next few months we are having to pay our health insurance completely on our own at over $900).

My current food plan would best be described as Core without the added flex points. I checked out a bunch of low and lower carb cookbooks home from the library recently, and hubby became interested in the Atkins program. He is diabetic, and really needs more carbs, so I'm introducing him to the Core and Southbeach ideas of eating "whole foods," and limiting white rice and potatoes. I've also got to get him off the "beef and pork" kick. He loves fish the best, prepared any way so that is good - and his dad is an avid fisherman and has been promising us walleye and crappie, so David has been hesitant to buy fish in the store (His dad will fill our freezer with wonderful, free fish - but if he doesn't bring it this weekend, I'm going out and buying some tilapia.

Morning,

I'm on the flex plan, I tried the Core last time and it didn't work for me, I just didn't have a good handle on how I was feeling......I could of been full, but since food is an emotional thing for me my portions were way out of control.
The flex plan seems to keep me more honest.

It's amazing as this thread weaves it's path how many of us are keeping this a secret.

It's kind of like those secret clubs when you were a kid, the YaYa Sisterhoods.....

I'm inspired by all of your "secrets" and glad you are here with me. I'm with you....so hey everyone.....GOOD FOOD FRIDAY!!

We need a name.....lolol....a tag....heck we're a gang now! A force to be reckoned with! Can't think of one yet, just woke up...work with me here...lol

Hi Kaplods

Welcome........won't your family be surprised in a few months. I'm like you when it comes to pounds shed....I need to tell the world....thank goodness there's a place right here to announce that.

Good on ya for keeping up with the weight loss plan even with the added stress of less income. That shows true determination. You are creative at finding a different way to achieve the best outcome for you and your husband.

Talk to ya later.......

Have fun with your secret weight loss! It will feel great to get to that first latte!

Welcome and you've come to the right place. I only started a week ago and all of a sudden I'm this chatterbox about weight loss. I have to admit I'm feeling much better about myself since being on 3FC. I really felt there was something really really mentally, emotionally wrong with me because I had gained weight and was unable to lose it. I found that coming here and saying exactly how I've been feeling has lifted a bagful of negativity off my shoulders, and that in itself has been freeing.

You don't need to tell anyone about your weight loss, they can see it for themselves in a few weeks. Are you on the Core or Flex plan.

So listen if you find yourself bursting at the seams to tell someone, stop by here......we're always ready to listen.....

Talk soon

Oh Kaplods, forgot to mention....the makeover....awesome. I have a spa gift certificate that I'm waiting to use when I feel the time is right. In the meantime, a new lipstick, a new bubble bath.....and books.....in fact.....will buy one today....going to Chapters........oh and not a cookbook or weight loss book. Any book by Jodi Picoult, my favourite author right now.

Cheers

hi guys

i guess we have formed a group huh?

i'm not trying to step on anyones toes, but i just want to clarify something colleen said. im an avid core supporter and i also know there are alot of misconceptions out there about core.....core is not a low carb program not by any means... not even 'minus the 35'. if it were, high fiber grains wouldnt be able to be eaten to satisfaction

I think that's a good point. "Whole foods," is a better description, as the carb/protein/fat rations can be quite different from person to person following Core. Because I'm currently cooking for hubby (Atkins induction) and myself (Core) and we were both major carb-junkies, it's a diet lower much lower in carbs (esp refined) and much higher in fiber than we are used to.

Even though I ate much less garbage than he did, and thought I was eating a lot of veggies, I'm finding what high fiber really means. It's taking some adjusting to, because drastic increases in fiber can have some pretty uncomfortable side effects (I tend towards IBS and colitis), at first.

As much as I'm liking the whole grains, I have to admit it's a lot easier to pass up the second helping of soaked cracked wheat, than it was the twice baked mashed potato casserole. The fiber makes it more filling, where the "white" carbs I have a hard time resisting (especially if they have a little fat in them).

Okay, well if I am going to be honest, I am sorta on a secret weight loss journey too. My girlfriends know about it- we are all in the same wedding a month from yesterday. But my sort of hunny (it's complicated) lives in colorado and is coming here for a visit at the end of April. He doesn't know about any of this, except that I have taken up running. Like you, kaplods, I am sorta looking forward to the unveiling of the new me. I am shooting halfheartedly for 10-15 pounds by the end of April, mostly because i don't care about pounds as much as inches. but yes, there is a bit of a secret thrill of knowing that youu look better than they were expecting.

I love makeover shows too.
