no access to a gym...but?

  • I would really like to add some stength training/weights into my weekly workout routine, but I dont have access to a gym. DH has a set of dumbells with adjustable weight. Can anyone recommend some good exercizes I can do with my minimal equipment? Thanks so much!
  • Check out the Shape, Women's Health, and Self websites - they've got tons of exercises. I don't have a gym membership, either, so I just use weights and my own body. I do tricep dips on a chair, bicep curls, chest presses, push-ups, crunches, squats, lunges, toe raises, the plank, and the superman. These seem to be doing just fine for me - plus, I don't have to worry about looking silly 'cause I don't know how to use the machines!
  • I don't go to a gym. I'm not sayin' that I never will ... I can see that at some point I might like more challenge (and a spotter).
I use the excellent advice I got by reading here. I go to Krista Smash's site. You can try this .... www.stumptuous.com

Like Sierra ... I've got magazines. Oxygen is my favourite. And books. Even our very small library has several ... including Body for Life for Women by Pamela Peeke. I had to ask them to bring it in from another branch, The librarian was so interested in it, I was worried she might not hand it over
  • Hi,

I also did weights at home for some time. There are sample workouts at sumptuous.com that are good. I started with the routines in the books of Pamela Peeke, and in Body for life.

  • Another great site is ExRx (http://www.exrx.net/) There are instructions, diagrams, videos and suggested workouts. They have a beginner's page, that's a great place to start.
  • Check out the sticky regarding using resistance bands for a workout. That can add some variety to your home workout.
  • thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions, I will look into the websites and books you've all recommended
