Oh see now, this is like opening a whole new can of worms for me. I just don't want anyone to "approach me" while I'm at the gym. Okay, you can stop rolling on the floor laughing now.

Really, there is no real threat of that I'm sure. I wear my ipod the moment I leave the locker room and have it cranked up loud enough that people have to use hand gestures to get my attention.

But still, take the ring off...? A lot of people do this?

I haven't really noticed or looked. I'm sure I'm just being really silly about it. Most of the regulars and staff know that I'm married with kids. The time of day that I go is really "mom hour" too so I'm sure its just one of my silly insecure things.

Okay, I'll be brave. When I go back in a few weeks, I'll take it off. The ring that is.

(Lydia thinking of her fearless leaders Meg and Ilene who have gone where she herself is only thinking of. If they can work out without their rings, well I can too) I swear though, it anyone bothers me you ladies are going to get an earfull!
  • I always take my rings off- and wear gloves. What a wimp! Seriously, the few times I've forgotten to take off my rings when I'm lifting, I thought my fingers were going to be amputated. Not such a problem doing curls or squats, but deadlifts, t bar rows, benchpresses or pullups were dangerous.

Lydia, I've seen other women wear their rings on a necklace while in the gym. Personally, I'd be more worried about losing them that way than just taking them off, but if you really feel you need then "on" maybe that would work.

I need new gloves. I now have 4 lefts and 1 right in my gym bag

  • I am always misplacing things. I fear that if I removed my ring I would leave it behind or lose it altogether. (I have done this several times with other rings, so I'm not about to do this with my wedding ring.)

It's also a real simple ring, no protuding stones or anything. So it doesn't really cause me any problems.
  • I haven't worn my wedding ring since it fell off many pounds ago. I've got too much grey hair to worry about anyone approaching me, but, frankly, it would be an incredible ego boost if someone did!

That is a good idea. I had also considered taping my ring to prevent scuffing it up while I am lifting.

The few times I have forgotton my gloves I ended up putting my ring in my pocket during deadlifts, but I always was afraid of losing it.

Maybe I should make a "back up" wedding band to wear to the gym that I don't have to worry about losing or beating up.
  • I used to have gloves I wore occassionally after I noticed calluses developing. I haven't worn gloves in a long time.

As for your ring(s), when I know I'm doing upper body, I leave my ring at home. Lately, I've been doing upper body at home so its not a big deal. I have no worries about anyone approaching me because well I'm not a very approachable person. Actually, before I was dating my DF and going to the gym almost every day, various people would be friendly but it was mostly the old guy lifters in their effort to be encouraging. Sometimes younger guys would say a word or 2 but it wasn't anything like "hey baby, what's your number". You can recognize the girls going to the gym trying to get picked up and I wasn't one of them
  • I wear gloves They are pretty powder blue and all girly-girl

They were the cheapest in niketown! The black ones were all leather and about twice the price, so I figures the blue ones would at least match my workout clothes!

This morning I went for a workout program thingy and I was doing a few things without my gloves (not particularly organised for Monday morning!) and I've already rubbed up a nice patch on my palm! I'm trying to keep my hands all smooth and soft for wedding ring close ups!
  • I need a new pair of gloves. The pair I have now are bright orange and whenever I workout and sweat I have orange stained hands when I'm done from the gloves bleeding. I might try a pair of white gloves next time.
  • I wear gloves and I am uncomfortable without them in the weight room. I take them off to do cardio.
  • I always wear gloves while lifting. I really need a new pair, but have trouble finding women's XL pairs. I could go with a man's small, but would like something besides the black ones I have for a change.

I leave my e-ring in it's box, in my gym bag, then put it back on after I shower and get dressed.

  • I just started using gloves in my work-out and I find I get a better grip and therefore end up performing the exercise better. I think it's worth trying them & seeing what you think -I don't think it's necessarily the same for everyone.
  • Okay, I bought some gloves They're gray and light blue (maybe the same Nike ones you have, 2frustrated) and they were only $10. So if I end up not liking to use them, I'm not out a lot of money. Thanks for all of the advice, chicas
