A fat problem

  • I have a question about fat... Okay, i thought i had a really good, healthy diet, but now becuase i skin is really dry and my hair seems brittle, I'm wondering about the fat content. Here is what I would normally eat in a day:
    B - Coffee with 1 tbsp 18%
1/2 cup all bran and 1 cup mixed fruit with 1/2 cup 2%milk.
L - Sandwich - 2 slices of Regular WW bread and 1 slice of 1% processed cheese. Sometimes some carrots or an apple if I am hungry.
S - COFFEE! lol. This can vary, sometimes just coffee or sometimes some tuna, or some veggies (i try to mix in something with some fat like a light ranch dressing (still some fat, and good fats like omegas)
D - Always a salad with vinagrette, usually another veggie too. Also usually chicken or fish (sometimes breaded, usually not). Occasionally a baked potato, if I have practice in the evening (I play rep hockey, very hard work for 1.5 to 2 hours.) And COFFEE
S - i often have a snack of some type, fruit or yogurt or if i'm really hungry oats soaked in 2% milk.

So anyway, sorry for the long post but i'm really kind of worried. I am active and want to be healthy and not eat too much fat and stuff, but my research suggests that dry skin could be from too little fat. so I'll leave it to you guys... what do you think and any suggestions?
  • The fat you seem to be getting is mostly saturated. I suggest getting a couple of teaspoons of healthy oils every day. You could make your own vinagrette with 2 tsp. olive oil mixed with balsamic vinagrette. Make sure you get some fatty fish in, too, like salmon. Also, add a bit of avocado to your salad and eat a few nuts every day.

If that doesn't help, I suggest seeing a physician because you might have a thyroid or hormonal problem.
  • Ditto! Flax seed, Nuts and nut butters (natural versions), Omega 3 suppliments, fatty fish, Olive Oil, Avocados... allll good fats!
