Default Protein and Workouts

I've been reading about eating protein after workouts but I'm wondering is it best to have protein after weight training or after cardio also? I use Whey Protein Shakes but don't want to take more than 1 a day. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Cheers Guys!

You need protein and carbohyrates after an intense weight workout to repair the damage done to your muscles after heavy lifting. That's how you build muscle: create micro tears in the tissue while lifting which are repaired stronger and thicker during your resting phase. The carb is the vehicle which transports the protein to the muscle. Because no muscle tissue is damaged during a cardio workout, you don't need any more protein after a cardio workout than you would normally eat. If you are lifting high rep sets of fairly light weight, you don't need post-workout recovery nutrition, either.
